After Being Diagnosed with Prediabetes, Sonia S. Joined Jenny Craig and Lost 49 lbs.*

For years, I thought about losing weight. I complained about my weight to friends and family, but never did anything about it. Four pregnancies had taken their toll and the excess weight was difficult to lose, but January 2017 was a turning point for me. 

 

My beloved grandmother was losing her battle with cancer. I remember holding her hand at her bedside during the last days of her life, while reflecting on the 40 wonderful years that I had with her. I hoped to be a grandmother one day and wanted to create wonderful memories with my grandchildren just like she did for me. 

 

I had been diagnosed with prediabetes and I knew my excess weight could make me more susceptible to health issues that could affect my life. After my grandmother passed away, I decided to join Jenny Craig and I’ve never looked back.

Choosing the Jenny Craig program was one of my best decisions. I had a consultant that supported, encouraged, and educated me during my journey. I was able to easily incorporate the program into my busy life and I enjoyed the variety of food. I love sweets, chocolate, and pizza, which were all included on my menu, so I didn’t feel like I was missing out! I learned I could have my favorite foods in moderation and in mindful portions


I stay well-hydrated and plan meals and snacks ahead of time, which helps me to eat regularly and have healthy snacks on hand. If I want something sweet or a snack while at an event, I give myself permission to eat a small amount.  


I also make sure to schedule exercise into my day. Along with the program, I exercise 30-60 minutes per day, 4-5 days per week.

My doctor says my blood and lab values look great, and I no longer have prediabetes. Besides the health benefits of my weight loss, there are psychological and emotional benefits that I notice, as well. Instead of dodging the camera, I enjoy being in pictures. Now, I’m the one taking selfies for no reason and photo-bombing pictures! My self-esteem has shot way up and I love myself. I said it … I love how I look and feel! 

 

I want my children to have a healthy relationship with food, their bodies and their health. I remind myself that they are watching everything I do, and I want to be their role model for healthy habits and success. 

 

I can now be the mom and future grandmother that I want to be — one like my own grandma was. Thank you, Jenny Craig!
