We tapped three of our personal weight loss consultants: Amber, Belen and Renee, to give you their top tips on weight loss, Jenny Craig and why they love helping change people’s lives.
What makes a consultant so important in a weight loss journey?
Belen: Consultants are an integral part of the Jenny Craig experience, from the second someone books an appointment to the time they reach their goal and work toward maintaining their success. We keep members motivated by reminding them of their purpose for weight loss, sharing useful tips and strategies, and helping them navigate through any challenges they may face.
We inspire, encourage, celebrate, listen, champion, and care about our members and their progress. Having a support system that’s invested in your success can make a huge difference.
What do you think is the biggest dieting myth out there?
Amber: The fewer calories you consume, the more weight you’ll lose. So many people think that if they just skip the snack, they’ll lose weight faster. When in fact, if you don’t have the snack, it can slow down your results—you may be more likely to overeat at your next meal because you’re ravenous.
What are your members most surprised about on the Jenny Craig program?
Belen: Most members are surprised by how well the program works, how great the food tastes, and how they can finally see themselves reaching their goals. They’re also surprised by how many valuable skills they learn from the program.
What is the best part of your job?
Renee: Working with members that have tried other diets and gimmicks and haven’t achieved success, then finding it on Jenny Craig, is the best. When they’re at Jenny Craig, they’re so glad to be in a one-on-one setting with someone who will listen to them. The other exciting thing is watching peoples’ personalities change. It’s incredible to see members’ energy and confidence change when they’re working towards their goals and seeing results! I love that!
What question do you get most from your members, and what advice do you provide?
Amber: The most common question I get from members is how to handle the holidays. I let them know that it can be done. Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners are just one meal out of your day. People don’t typically gain weight from having one meal—they gain weight from all the leftovers they continue to eat in the weeks after.
Belen: A lot of people don’t know how to eat healthily or how to maintain a healthy weight with all of the opportunities to dine out and social situations that come up. I recommend that our members eat their Jenny Craig entree at home and have a big, healthy salad with our dressing and/or a plate of roasted vegetables and iced tea, or sparkling water at the restaurant.
You shouldn’t have to put your life on hold because you’re working towards better health and weight loss, so continue to live it and make the focus around catching up with friends.
What inspired you to become a weight loss consultant?
Belen: I realized after a series of unfortunate events in my life, including the loss of several family members all within a year, the most important thing is to help others. With an existing passion and interest in health and fitness, my position as a consultant gave me the opportunity to do that in a very real way.
Amber: My own personal weight loss journey inspired me to become a consultant. After I had my second baby, I was nearing 200 lbs. By focusing on my diet, I was able to lose the weight. It was never easy. I had to do it by myself and I didn’t have the support I needed – someone to push me and tell me that I could do it. I know that members can relate to my story, so I let them know I’ll be their support along the way, especially when they feel like giving up.
