5 Simple Tips to Lose Weight in The New Year

How many times have you vowed to lose weight in the new year? If you’re having trouble counting, you’re not alone. But we’ll let you in on a secret: The key to improving your health long-term is to make attainable, realistic goals you can stick with! 

Forget those fad diets — there’s a reason why they never work. These 5 simple tips will help set you up for success this year.

Give them a try and make 2023 your healthiest year yet!


1. Make measurable goals

Grab a notebook and write down a list of actions you can take that will support your larger weight loss goal. The more specific, the better. Highlight your top three (that you will commit to) after you’ve made the list. Here are some healthy ideas to get you started:

  • Clean out your pantry of chips, cookies and unhealthy snacks
  • Start a proven weight loss plan like Jenny Craig that takes the guesswork out of losing weight
  • Sign up for a 5K and plan to walk or jog it
  • Aim to get at least 8 hours of sleep every night
  • Swap your soda for tea, sparkling water or water with a slice of cucumber or lemon

2. Take it week-by-week

Don’t worry — you don’t have to change all your habits overnight! Take small steps every week — they’ll add up to major results!

Each week, start with one to two small goals, and by the time the next week rolls around, you'll be ready to add a new goal, such as trying a new, non-starchy vegetable, testing out a new spice on your meal, or joining a fitness class after work.

3. Give yourself grace

Remember, you’re only human! When you indulge in a few slices of pizza or have one too many pieces of cake at a friend’s party — don’t beat yourself up. Enjoy the moment and move on (savor that cake!).

Your next meal is your chance to get right back on track with your healthy habits!

4. Find a motivation buddy

Having a support system can help you lose more weight (seriously!).[1] Find a friend, a family member or even a wellness coach to help support you on your journey. Having someone hold you accountable can help keep you on track – plus, it’s way more motivating!

5. Celebrate all your wins

Set a non-food reward for the end of each month for accomplishing your goals! Here are a few ideas:

·         Get a manicure in March

·         Pick up new warm-weather workout gear in May

·         Splurge on a new pair of jeans in October, since you’ll probably need a new size!

Hi, I'm wondering if you have a special program for ladies with an allergy to all peppers.? I am wondering about gluten as well lol?

im doing some searching on ways to change up my life, to make goals.... tricks to work on to keep moving forward in a positive way.

do you have any suggestions ?

For an allergy to peppers, we can do that! Your consultant can help her to create a menu that does not contain peppers.  

As for dishes without gluten, we apologize sincerely for any inconvenience. Unfortunately, because the majority of our Jenny Craig foods contain gluten, we are unable to enroll a client with a gluten allergy for safety reasons. We try to accommodate as many people as possible, but cannot enroll clients with specific allergies if participation may pose a risk to their health.
For weight management assistance, you may want to work directly with a registered dietitian. The dietitian can design a menu specifically for you, taking into consideration your allergy or preference. To locate a dietitian in your area, please speak with your physician or visit the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics website at www.eatright.org/find-an-expert for a free referral (in the U.S.)  or visit the Dietitians of Canada website at www.dietitians.ca  and click on “Find a Dietitian” in Canada.

Hi Elaine.  We suggest checking with your Doctor to see if Jenny Craig is the right program for you.  While we do have clients who are on thyroid medication lose weight on Jenny Craig, the medication may affect their weight loss.  Thank you!
