Spent some time looking through pictures looking specifically for pictures of Stephanie. Her future mother-in-law is going to put together a slideshow for the Engagement party. Well, I came across pictures of me throughout the years....at Christmas, at graduations, birthday parties, with family....it's so sad to see myself so big! I never really realized how big I was! At my highest I reached 218 lbs. At 5 feet tall that is a tremendous amount of weight! I knew I was overweight, but there's nothinhg like a picture to make one face reality. It really hits home to know that I have spent the majority of my life overweight and so unhappy with myself. Every once in a while if came across a picture of myself thin...before I got married, after reaching goal with Weight Watchers, another time when I once again followed WW and walked 10 times around the block most nights and got down to 125 lbs! Sad thing is I didn't maintain for very long....now I wonder why I would not fight hard to keep the weight from coming back on...what is it that makes a person gain and not see the damage done not only to our bodies but also our psyche?

Well, confession time..... I have had a horrible, terrible, no good week! From morning to about 8:00 pm have been great and then....all goes haywire! I have eaten so much junk....so many carbs....I have just gone crazy!
Why? I was thinking about my week last night ( after eating 1/3 of a big bag of tortilla chips) and I like many out there, am an emotional eater. I haven't been feeling too well ( my Parkinson's symptoms have been a problem this week...), my hair has thinned so much that I've started using minoxidil (Rogaine for women) so I'm feeling really self conscious, one of my daughters is struggling financially, I'm feeling guilty cause I don't feel like visiting my mom this week so I haven't , etc., etc. Lots going on that I've been feeling depressed....so I am trying to comfort myself with food. Has it helped? No.
Does it ever really help? I read on one of the Maintenance threads that it's a good thing to " Play the tape through." Think it through..how will I feel after I give in to my cravings? Bloated? Tired? Guilty? Depressed? Is it worth it?
Well, now I'm 146.0. I can only hope a few of those lbs are water retention! So tempting to eat less for the next few days or try to fast today...but I know that the best thing to do is get back to eating on program....I know it works and it's the healthy way to lose.
I have Jenny Meals in the freezer so going to go back to mostly program foods this next week and upping my water intake. I'm also going to stay away from having a night time snack..it's such an ingrained habit that I think it's become a problem. I am going to call it a day after I eat my dinner..no more eating the rest of the night.
Prayer...lots of prayer for strength and peace and trust that the Lord will work it all out for good...This week has shown me again that I can't do it on my own..sometimes it's a good thing to be reminded!

Sorry to hear of your setback. You are doing the right thing by going back on the program. You don't want to let your weight get out of hand. You have come so far, reached your goal and maintained your weight. Keep the faith. Everything will work out. Been there myself several years ago. If you want to talk to someone, I'm here.

Laura, remember that maintenance is part of the learning process too and don't beat  yourself up over it. :)

You are right jwaters49. I realize it won't be a smooth ride..I'm sure there will be a few bumps along the road! I am learning as I go.. Things I need to change..those things that I can do to make it work.
Today's been a good one! Just finishing up my dinner and coffee and then the kitchen is closed for the night!

Laura — Your honesty and journey is an example for the rest of us. I worry so much about when I'm on maintenance and how I may choose to respond to life's stress. I am an emotional eater too and use food for comfort. Reading about your real life struggle and how you realigned your rudder in the water to correct course provides guidance for all of us. Thank you for being so generous and sharing your journey.

Laura you mention about seeing this weight gradually coming back and not realizing how heavy you are till your weight is out of control.  That happens to everybody.  Those little increases you don't see.  I've lost weight several times over the years, got down to 125 in my 20's, 130 and 135 in my 40's.  We usually quit writing down what we eat and keeping track of our weight once we reach goal.  That is what happened to me, but then when I realized I was putting weight on I would try to lose.  I think the last 20 years I yoyoed up and down and not getting anywhere but frustrated.  Maintenance is hard to do, I would say as hard as losing or even harder.  Talking about your journey, good and bad, helps others think about themselves and their journeys.  Keep us posted; you will get rid of those few pounds in no time.

Weighed in this morning at 145.4 with a loss of .6 lbs. Hope to see more losses this week...I will be weighing every morning. I am interested how much I gained is real weight and how much is water. I sure know I didn't eat an excess of 14000 calories to gain 4 lbs in a week...and wondering how long it will take to take this extra weight off. Sure wasn't worth what I ate and however long it will take to lose..yep, a learning experience for sure.

Laura salt and sodium holds water in. Once you eat less sodium, you will notice weight loss. You said you ate chips. That will do it.

Thanks Catlady10!
Today I weighed in at 144.0. Total loss so far: 2 lbs.
Well, weight is definitely coming off, but slower than I thought it would. I am now at goal weight but I definitely feel more comfortable around 139 or 140. Good thing I can feel satisfied eating 1200 calories so here I go...going for 139. I want to get there by Thanksgiving so I can enjoy dinner and dessert without having to be too strict but not go overboard either!
Went out to a casino Saturday and had lunch there. I didn't feel like having a salad so I ordered a turkey sandwich with a side of fruit, hold the mayo. When it was served I thought wow, it looks like it will be too many calories for lunch. I removed most of the cheese and the top slice of ciabatta bread. I probably saved myself at least 200 calories. I enjoyed lunch all the more!
Maintenance can be easy or can be hard...it's what we make it! Last week I chose to eat to comfort myself and I found it was hard to stop..each decision to overeat made it so much easier to do it again the next night..it was the old " just one more time won't hurt, I'll get back to program tomorrow" script that I know so well. After eating at the casino and making some good decisions I feel so much better and in control now..last night I did have to have a cup of decaf coffee to keep from giving in to " just one little snack" so it always comes down to one decision at a time...again and again.
I'm back to staying on JC to get to my lower range and feeling great knowing this is going to be my first holiday season in many many years that I am at goal, can wear anything I want and it'll fit, and I will not be dreading social situations because of how I look and feel. That's huge!
I also know that I see the scale a different way now that I am maintaining...as a friend, keeping me on track, helping me from going back to old bad habits, showing me that I am heading in the wrong direction so I can stop before it gets out of hand.

Laura whenever I eat out it's a challenge but I enjoy it. The more times I eat out, the better I get with food choices and control what and how much I put on my plate. Just recently we went to Orlando for a week, completely on my own. The only food I took with me were snacks. When I got back home I lost one half pound. I felt really great and happy that my vacation was a success as far as controlling my weight. My boyfriend tells me that he is amazed that I have control over my diet. He is a great support. You sound like you have everything under control. I am really happy for you. Keep up the good work. The upcoming holidays will be a big challenge for everyone.
