This is my 4th day on Maintenance and so far I'm loving it! After weigh in on Friday my husband and I went to Las Vegas to celebrate and I came home 1.2 lbs lighter! I still ate delicious food, just in small portions. Took along my low cal snacks, veggies, and fruit. This saved me from eating those unwanted calories!
So, I've read many of the old threads on this forum and I have learned so much!
I would love to share my maintenance journey with you. I would love it if those maintaining or very close to goal would share their experiences, tips, struggles, victories and the daily food choices they make to stay at goal...and anything else that would be helpful to all of us on this forever journey!
There will be ups and downs for many of us I'm sure. This is a place to give and get encouragement!
I really hope this thread will be one that will continue for a long time...I can't even remember when someone posted last on this forum! While I love checking in on other General threads I find that I am now really focused on Maintenance and how to make it a successful, healthy and happy lifestyle.
So this is so new to me! I met my Weight Watchers lifetime goal twice in 32 years and maintained each time for about 3-4 months because I was so ready to get back to "normal eating" so that's what I did! And gained all my weight back quickly..Now I feel I have the skills to maintain and I thank Jenny for teaching me portion control, good habits, and all the other things that make the Jenny Criag program such a successful one.
So hope to hear from many of you! Let's keep this going and rock Maintenance!

I pretty much feel like I'm in Maintenance.  I haven't reached my goal per se, but I'm very happy where I am and I've been maintaining my current weight for several months.  I've learned to not deprive myself, and for me that is a big deal.  I remember reading somewhere (I believe it's a Jillian Michaels quote) that eating can be 80/20.  80% good choices and 20% not so good.

Have I eaten off plan?  Yes  Do I do it daily?  No  Do I go crazy for an entire day?  No  Do I go crazy for an entire meal? rarely

I think we are all different and what works for one may or may not work for another.  When we go to Chuy's (my absolute favorite Mexican Restaurant...the closest one being 2 hours away!) I eat what I want.  I don't make myself sick, but I eat chips and salsa, I eat my dinner and I typically only eat half, because I'm full.  I still snack on fruit and eat lots of veggies.  I'm more mindful of what I put in my mouth when snacking.

I know the number that I don't want to go above on the scale.  I'm sure we all have "that number".  I like the size I'm at and I'm happy with the weight I'm at as well.

I would also like to mention that when we go to Chuy's, that is my big meal for the day.  No matter what time it is.  Meaning, I usually count it as my lunch and dinner.  Yes I know this is not the way is should be done, but this is what I do and it works for me.

Kyra, I'm totally with you. Whether it's counting calories, exchanges, or those days when it just makes sense to eat what you want in small portions...whatever works for your lifestyle is going to be the key to maintaining...it has to be livable and I sure don't want to be so inflexible that I find myself eating only protein and salad when I go out to eat! That does not work for me and I want to enjoy the good and delicious food that's out there! Sometimes I may choose only salad but I always want to keep in mind that I have the choice...and I don't want to feel as if I am deprived trying to live my healthy lifestyle.
Portion control, portion control, portion control...I have to drill it in my brain..It is so easy to get into the mindset of "Well, it's a special occasion so I am going to eat whatever I want and eat as much as I want". Then it's downhill from there...Plus, that is part of our old lifestyle that we need to let go...
I felt so empowered when I made the decision to up my goal weight and finally get to maintenance. I know I will lose a few lbs in the next few months because realistically I am not feeling the need to eat those extra exchanges/calories to just maintain. The 1200 calorie plan gives me more than enough to eat but it is good to know that extra food is available if I need it. I really didnt want to get to maintenance so that I could eat more...I was just so tired of having to LOSE WEIGHT! That's been a struggle all my life.

Well I want to tell ya about the Silk Unsweetened Almond Milk: it's only 30 calories per cup.  It has 2.5 grams of fat which is more than my 1% milk (did you know 1% milk is actually 2 grams of fat "saturated fat" per cup?) which I normally drink however having a milk for my cereal that has no saturated fat I think makes this a winner.  It also has more calcium than milk too! Less carbs and sugar than milk!  I can even have this on my cereal and still have my yogurt if I want to...so awesome!  Does it taste better than milk?  No...but it's not bad and having it on cereal you don't really taste it you taste the cereal so I think I'm gonna use this from now on.  Hubby won't use it but I'm gonna.  However their Dark Chocolate Almond Milk is unbelievable!!!  OMG it is so good I can't buy it, cause I will drink the whole carton, it is that good!  If I had kids I'd give them this for sure cause it's much better for them than regular chocolate milk!

I'm a fan of the blue diamond unsweetened vanilla almond milk myself.  Around the same cals, but it has a milder flavor to me.  I'm not on maintenance: I count 1 cup as a limited free (I usually don't even use the full cup).  It's not strictly on the limited free list, but I figure if they have a piece of candy on there I'm fine to keep my almond milk!  It hasn't hurt my losses and it's great in coffee instead of the fatty creamer I used to use.

All I drink is either almond milk or coconut milk - it's about 1/2 the calories of skim milk and so much better!  My JCC told me it didn't count as my dairy, but I've been having 1 cup a day for about a year and still losing weight.

I've not been feeling well a last few days and going to see my doctor tomorrow. Possible UTI. I am also going to ask for a thyroid test because I have many of the symptoms for hypothyroidism (?). The one I'm most concerned about is coarse and thinning hair! My hair has thinned out so much that it's pretty close to bald in a couple of spots...my appetite has been horrible since I've not been feeling well that I've had to force myself to eat so now I'm down to 140.4 .

I wish I was more computer savvy cause I really need to post some before and after pictures... But I also hate having my picture taken and have always avoided the camera...I wonder if I'll ever change? Really very few pictures of me around...so, we'll see.

Finally back home and what a week! Since hitting goal on 8/8 I have been to Vegas, had a birthday, been totally wiped out by either a UTI or kidney infection ( am on antibiotics), had a birthday ( happy 59th!), stayed over my parents house for 3 1/2 days to take care of them ( so so stressful taking care of mom---- she intentionally makes it so hard!), gotten away for a few hours to celebrate the reveal of my coming grandchild ( a boy! I new it!!) and went out to eat to celebrate my daughter Stephanie's birthday and mine..
Because it has been so stressful and I was so feeling so exhausted due to the infection I have lost weight without wanting too. My appetite still isn't where it should be and I am really having to force myself to drink water and eat...I weighed myself this morning and i now weigh 137.8'. That means I've lost almost over 5 lbs in one week.
Well, I don't want to make this thread a big downer but to conclude the topic and start off on a better note tomorrow I wanted to share one last thing, which is tough for me...
I had been noticing a lot of symptoms that were troubling me and primarily on my right side: shaky hand, dragging my foot a bit, small and messy handwriting, slowness in my movement , so I was sent to see a neurologist and then for a second opinion....I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease about 4 months ago.
It's been a life changer and this week I really felt like life has truly changed for me. Thank God I am not dealing with this 70 lbs heavier and I can focus on slowing the progression by being more active and increasing my walking. This is a progressive disease and the doctor said with meds and by my keeping moving I can slow down the progression and live with this for a long time...just have to learn how to do some things in a different way when the time comes that I can't do it my accustomed way. By the way, this is the disease that Michael J. Fox has.
So, I'll be ok and through the grace of God, I will continue to be content in what I am given and in all the blessings he continues to provide.
Back to healthy eating and normalcy and my home and my family and my dog....it's so good to just be home! Tomorrow will be a happier post, I promise!

Love ya Laura! I'm glad you have a diagnosis now and that you're strong enough to think about the accommodations you CAN make rather than dwelling on the changes it will cause you. I hope your appetite comes back soon and congrats on the upcoming baby boy :)

I am so happy about the baby grandson that is coming soon.  How wonderful for you all.

However I'm sad about the doctor's report (Parkinson's) if I may speak from my heart?  Your post is from one who seems so in control and from one who is gonna take this news in the bravest way one possibly can.  However I need to say that if you feel scared or shocked or overwhelmed about the news whatsoever (that's ok too) we will be with you all the way through this.  We are your friends and your sisters and your closest confidants so know that you can come on here and say anything you want or need to say.  I am so in awe of you.  Your faith, your understanding and the care you show to all around you.  It is so evident what kinda person you are and how you live your life...

Your faith will see you through this all and I will be praying for you.  You'll have a long life ahead with your wonderful family and now it will be a healthy one that will make your body strong just like your spirit and your faith in the Lord.  You have done so well in your fight to get to where your body should be and you will continue to do a wonderful job on maintenance. I have no doubt.  Knowledge is power so I'm sure you'll do fine with it all and will continue to be a shining example to us and everyone around you as well.  Bro-in-law has Parkinson's and has been going strong for many years!

Big hugs and we luv you girl!

Thank you so much Sheila.... You don't know how much you uplifted my spirit! It's been a tough month with my mom and stepfather and spending so much time away from home....I am happy to be able to spend time caring for them but as you well know it is so emotionally draining!
I have maintained well below my goal staying at 140... Weighing daily so I can learn what works and how much leeway I have.. I have been to a wedding and ate a little cake and a delicious filet mignon dinner but only ate about 1/2-2/3 of it. Ate Lemon meringue pie for my birthday ( and a few days after!) but didn't eat any of the crust( which accounts for most of the calories!) Focusing on not depriving myself but cutting calories when I can to even my day out... So far so good.
Bought a couple of jeans in a size 6! Some of my 8's were getting too baggy...I would be very happy to stay between the 2 sizes from now on.....I'm really loving maintenance and having so much freedom in making food choices!

Laura, sorry I missed seeing these recent posts.  Congratulations on the news of hearing your DIL is having a boy!  How excited you all must be.

I will keep you in my prayers that your Parkinson's stays under control.  You have us to lean on whenever you feel the need to talk.  I don't come here as often as I used to, but I'll catch up to these posts eventually.  I, too, am very happy that you are not dealing with this at a heavier weight, which would make any health issues all the more difficult I'm sure.

So proud of you for keeping your weight down and happy that you are feeling good.

Hello fellow maintainers,

would love to join in for encouragement here. And to encourage those going thru hard times.

I lost about 14 lbs to reach 145 last month. I have since gained 3 back due to life and also exaserbated by my plantar facsiitis which got bad about 4 weeks ago. Can barely walk. It is very frustrating. I had gotten into a great habit of going to the gym daily for zumba or spin and now barely get 4000 steps in.

I know it doesn't really compair to Parkinsons :(....but I also know I do need His grace.

3 pounds doesnt seem like much but I am scared I'll keep gaining. It seems like I have to fight for my life for each pound. Probably because I have certain things which are hard to give up. (wine)

Its hard to try out different froms of exercise.

Thank you for listening. Paying for you Laura.

PS, I just noticed the ticker at bottom, you see i joined jenny a few years back and evidently got to JUST ABOUT MY SAME WT NOW! Kinda crazy. It looks like I wanted to get down to 135 but now i am just aiming at 145. hmmmm

Also forgot to say I love your quote Sandy...about quit giving up. I usually give up right here and gain this 10 or more back!

It has happened about 5 times.
