I tried out the Jenny Craigs 3 day food and I must say it was very good.

Now I also am looking at Nutrisystem for Diabetics. I can get 28 days with my humana discount and costco gift card for $200. Jenny Craig is twice that.

I did Nutrisystem several years ago and must say the food was aweful. Now I see they have added frozen items and everything is different.

The price of Jenny Craig will stop me from choosing it, unless I can find some discounts. What are the rest of you doing to keep the price down.

Honestly, to me, it is worth the money. But, as I'm more than halfway I found ways to make my own meals that are less expensive but stay within my calorie range. Also, I don't buy the extras such as soupitizers, dressings or syrup and I rarely buy the Anytime bars. I like them and they help me feel full but I also like to change it up with slim fast snack bars. I know i won't be on JC for my entire life but for now, it is worth the investment.

I agree...I tried Nutrisystem years ago and it was terrible. I wasted that money because there was little of the food that I liked. So far I haven't found anything on my menu that I haven't liked...of course I am starting day 5 but I haven't even had my favs like the fajitas and macaroni and cheese. I even like the mashed potatoes and chicken. Right now I am off work and when I start back I will have to be careful since I am using my oven more and it makes things better to eat. But for the difference in the cost it is worth it. I don't plan on being on Jenny all my life but I consider it an investment in my health. To bad you couldn't get it paid for by your health insurance. I mean they pay for the lap band and it doesn't work all the time why not these programs. Anyway I feel that it is worth it. I kind of beat around the bush but I hope that it helped.

One thing about nutrisystem I didnt like was that I had over 100 pounds to lose starting and nutrisystem had *results not typical under all advertisements where the customers lost 30 or 40 pounds. I thought: heck, well I guess I wont be doing that! ...and I've heard the food isnt as good and as Jessica said: I think the price is worth it.

You couldn't "PAY ME" to go on Nutrisystem...the food is just plain nasty! I was on it for a short while and just the thought of the food makes me ill. Yeah you'll lose weight on it alright cause the food will make you so sick you won't want to eat! I can't believe anybody who has taste buds would be able to eat that food!
You say this food is too expensive: funny how you can find a way when you really want something bad enough: this is so worth it to me! I do keep the cost down also by: not buying the salad dressing, anytime bars or the soupitizers. I limit the desserts to 1 or 2 a week. I also do MOMO which also helps with the cost...however I'm doing them to learn how to eat on my own not because of the cost. Good Luck

Been there, done that. Yuck. Simply put. It was around 7-8 years ago, and yes, I am sure the food is different.
However, you said you did the 3 days of JC and it was very good, there is your answer, I believe.

Have you considered starting right off the bat doing MOMO 5/2? That is what I started with. I like it, teaches you
right away to do MOMO. Can't be on Jenny forever, allthough, I love the food.

MOMO 5/2 helps you learn the proportions again, making positive choices on your own right from the beginning.

Plus, with JC, you have your WONDERFUL JC forum here to go to for support. Seriously, what more could you ask for?
The $$$ IS worth it. Do as the others say, don't do the soupitizers, syrups, dressings. Little things like that.
If you aren't comfortable with MOMO 5/2, do a couple weeks of full JC and then try the MOMO 5/2.
You can do it, the program is a new lifestyle change and worth it, every penny.

I did nutrisytem years ago too. And I agree with everyone else the food was horrible!!! Just nasty! I love this food and I am learning how to eat. I lost weight with nutrisytem but once I went off the food I just started eating everything that had taste I was like a kid in a candy store being deprived of taste for 8 months. This is worth the $$$ hands down to me!!!

I was on nutrisystem years ago when it was just shelf food. I don't remember it so it must not have been very good.
I am troubled by the pricing, as my husband still needs to eat. There are a few things that are too spicy for me, and I do a snack/dessert everyday. this
is helping me alot.

I did notice on nutrisystem they had a huge amount of desserts.
They also have a sampler packs, and a la carte items (including desserts) that you can try different things. It seems that both companies have some of the same items, so what
I would do to compare, is see if you could order the same from each.

The money is totally worth it to me. I do understand that there are those who still can't pay the price. I don't know how much you are required to buy but you might check with jcc. Maybe she can work something out with you so that you can incorporate other foods in place of JC. A few years ago they required $60.00 per week to stay with them. I don't think they prefer it but you can check with them. Just be 100% honest and don't be shy.

I tried Nutrisystem about a year ago, and actually their food is really good now (frozen, not shelf stable), and frankly they have more options than Jenny. There are actually a lot of items they have that I wish Jenny had. The thing that made the difference for me was the accountability. It works best for me to have to go in and weigh weekly.

I tried NutriSystem this time last year and OMG - the food was really not good. They had frozen options but it cost twice as much as the shelf food so I went with the shelf. Honestly, I did it for exactly 1 week and lost 8 lbs, however, I just couldn't bare going through another week of that food. It just didn't taste good. I'm back with Jenny and like everyone else before me has said already, I cut costs by not buying all the syrups, dressings, etc. and am now trying lunches OMO.

I remember when I was on Nutrisystem my BF would say "what the heck are you eating????" I would tell him and he didn't believe me...I had so much food that I didn't eat it was horrible. I am going to stop with the syrup and dressings next week because I have been using the light spray dressings and they are less calories than jenny and they taste really good. I hope you come back to Jenny I know that it will work.

Having done NutriSystem, twice (epic fail) I found this to be well worth the investment. Faster weight loss and gourmet food, compared to the vile stuff from NS. Seriously, it all started tasting the same. And there was very little variety. I find JC pricey too, but I am worth it. I know that doesn't magically make more money in my wallet but I also started adding up what I was spending on other things every day that I don't have now and that all added up too. It's closer in cost than I thought. And I am learning very valuable lifelong lessons with this. If you can find a way to swing it, it will be the best decision you ever make.

Amy, I would ask you what your goal is...is it to lose weight to get back to a baseline weight (like post-pregnancy) or is it to learn how to live a healthy lifestyle going forward? It sounds like with your diabetes, the latter is critical.

I did a similar style program to NutriSystem's, and lost the weight, but gained it back because I didn't learn any lessons to incorporate into maintenance phase. What I was doing wasn't working, so I needed to learn a new approach. JC in combo with MFP & BFM armband have provided me invaluable tools to monitor my caloric needs. If I had known this stuff decades ago, I don't think I'd have been in quite the situation I was in weight-wise. Now, I feel prepared for maintenance. I have learned about how to successfully eat throughout the day, that I don't have to deprive myself (though I have to limit), and how to volumize with non-starchy vegetables. I've always been a "healthy" eater, but retrospectively, just too much of the wrong foods. My time on JC has been invaluable & has supported my efforts for a healthy lifestyle. Even my husband is impressed how much he's even learned about nutrition & exercise while watching me.

I don't think any program that just provides prepared foods without focusing on these other issues is going to have any long-term success. I'm not the only one who thinks so--please see the results of this study in JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association): http://jama.jamanetw...rticleid=186793

One thing I noticed about Nutrisystem compared to JC is the portion control! Nutrisystem gives you horrible tasting food with really unrealistic portions. I pulled out a JC pizza two nights ago it was twice the size of a nutrisystem size pizza. It's really unrealistic to follow their guidelines.
I love JC food it's really top quality!

Also curious - and I have been amazed at Mariah Carey's results - looks fab but notice she's disappeared from Jenny. Also read she took diet pills, so maybe Nutrasystem is better and less costly. Do both have diet pills as a supplement? - Kim

Her taking diet pills doesn't make nutrisystem better. But, the proof is in the pudding. I honestly believe that any person will have success on a diet if they follow it as meant to be followed, but in order to maintain it, they need more than just food change, they need to look at the deeper reasons they eat the way they do. I've done nutrisystem, briefly (it was disgusting), Did weight watchers (not enough one-on-one and way too much freedom) but JC I really like because of 1)this forum and 2)my weekly meeting. But, again, as I said, if you don't take advantage of the JCC or the learning materials, then you will fail at maintenance. Luckily, just about every major diet plan out there offers trial periods. Try for yourself but of the three I've done... I've never felt so strong, proud, and supportive of as Jenny Craig. Just my opinion :)

I agree with Faiza whole-heartedly! There is a reson to why you eat that isn't just the simple need for food. Once you figure that aspect out then no matter what plan you stick to, it will work. NS I don't like to be honest, you don't get one-on-one consultation, the food is horrible! I have also been on the community, and they aren't as supportive I have noticed as they are on JC.

It means meal on my own and Jenny Craig has what's called "My Days" where you do JC food 5 days a week and then 2 days of structured eating on your own. They give you sample meals but you can eat on your own within the guidelines for the meals.
