Hello all,
Just a quick question. I am currently on the 1500 calorie diet and the past two weeks I've really noticed that my calorie intake has lowered into the 1000-1200 range. I feel like am I am forever eating and i have tons of energy so keep doing extra workouts (sunny afternoon in Seattle?! must go attempt to run in it!) and i am concerned that between the extra workouts and less calories that I am going to force my body into starvation mode. I hate to eat when i'm not hungry (isnt that what i'm supposed to be training my body not to do?) but i'm struggling to get a decent amount of calories in. Any advice would be helpful, i did try to call to jc support and then asked my jcc but they gave conflicting advice so not sure what to do. Below is an average day of meals, if you can spot something that i am missing or might help make up the difference please let me know! Thanks
Breakfast : 1c cheeries 1/2 cup fresh fruit, 1/2 c whole milk
Snack : banana
Lunch : cheesy broccoli potato, 2c romaine lettuce, balsamic vinegar as dressing
Afternoon snack : popcorn
Dinner : three cheese ziti, 2 cups snap peas
Late snack : s'mores bar, 1/2 c cottage cheese, 1/2 cup pineapple
It may seem like just one small step at a time... but when you look back you can see just how far you've come!

Hey Kaboose! As far as I can tell, that day of meals looks spot on--in fact, it looks closer to a 1200 style menu rather than a 1500... Sorry your JCC and Jenny are giving you conflicting advice! It sort of all depends on how your body is reacting... are you on the 1500 because of an intense workout regime? Because if you're at 188 currently (very close to where I am/have been) I'm surprised you're not on the 1200, which is pretty standard for this weight range! Have you been losing steadily at 1500 calories every week? Personally, I would say that if you are struggling to force yourself to eat (especially when you're not hungry) it might not be a bad idea to stick closer to a 1200-1300 calorie range and see how it goes. That would cut you down to 2 fruit servings and 2 milk servings a day. If you have an intense workout one day, go ahead and throw in an extra protein serving after your workout is done (nutritionists and personal trainers agree, extra protein when working the body hard).

It's likely you'll get more conflicting replies here, but that's just my two cents! :) You're doing really great so far!

Hey Happineff,
I have been losing weight fairly steadily, although I have seem to stalled in the upper 180's the past two weeks, a lot of fluctuations up and down seem to be happening (it just happens to be that I've been down on weigh in days). I started off on the 1500 calorie diet and my jcc has not made any mention or plan to change it, I just happen to be doing extra workouts since work has been slower and I find I'm restless in the evenings. Thanks for the advice, I guess at this point I will not worry to much about the lower calories, just eat healthy over all and get a little extra protien if I've worked out hard and am hungry afterwards :)

Thank you for this post. I am having the same issue. I am following the 1500 calories but my calories from snacks and meals always seems to be closer to 1200 calories. This is only my 2nd week with JC but I don't want to lose the weight too fast.

Ask your JCC to contact the JC Nutritionist (or you can do it on the boards but it may take a day or two to get an answer) to define EXACTLY what you should and shouldn't be eating.

I'm assuming since you're on a higher than normal calorie level that you're doing LOTS of exercise and have a sizeable amount to lose. They have a computer program that they use so ask your JCC to explain EXACLTLY what you're supposed to be eating to make up for the extra calories (free veggies don't count). And then follow the program. Most of us were/are on the 1,200 calorie plan UNLESS there is a great amount of exercise and necessity for weight loss so SPEAK UP and if you're not getting the response you need, talk to the Center's manager and/or change your JCC.

We;re here and we want you to succeed. :)

I am following the 1500 calorie plan, but I am only purchasing lunch and dinner. I have been pretty successful with doing breakfast and snacks on my own. I plug everything into myfitnesspal and the calories are only adding up to around 1200. I have 40lbs to lose and I am 5'11'' in height. I have started off walking and ellyptical 2-3 times a week, nothing too major yet. Oh and I am 35yrs old. I actually have an appt tomorrow and will talk to them about it. She said once I get halfway to my goal weight then she would drop me down to 1200 calories.

I was on 1500 calories my first week, but after loosling a few lbs. I was dropped to 1200 calories by my second week.  I would think with your height and weight you would be on the 1200 calorie plan. Your starting weight and goal weight are pretty close to what mine were when I joined before. I would definatly question your consultant on that one.

I went today and it looks like the reason I wasn't getting my full 1500 calories a day was because I wasn't doing 3 dairy and 3 fruits. Personally, I probably never will. Therefore I will probably be closer to 1400 a day.I lost another 2.6 lbs today!! I was using alot of fat-free stuff for my snacks, that also barely had any calories in it. I'm not a big desert person so i haven't eaten any of the desert calories.
