So I'm going to hide behind the computer instead of ask my JCC but the Anytime bars seem top give me a ton of gas. It's getting down right embarrasing.... Is there an alternative to the bar?

The anytime bar counts as a dairy. Refer to the guide you received to stay within the nutrition guides for a dairy, I can't stand the taste of them, so I eat a cheese stick, greek yogurt or cottage cheese in its place.

That's a common complaint, kbenage - happens to a lot of people on the plan, so don't be embarrassed. :) As CLMomma said, you can substitute with a few other things - many people (including me) really like the Pria bars if you can find them. The mint cookie one is delicious, doesn't seem to have the gas problems, and is very close in nutritional values to the anytime bar. Plus, it's cheaper.

Welcome to the boards, and good luck! Don't be embarrassed to ask questions - chances are, someone else has experienced the same question or issue and the support group here is nothing short of A-MAZING.

Yes, the FF cheese stick, cottage cheese, greek yogurt all will work. PLUS you need to take a multivitamin.

As, yes, MANY of us got gas from the Anytime bars so don't fret. And goodness knows we share A LOT more embarrassing questions around here. :D

This is a safe haven - so ask away for anything you need. :)

I never experienced the "gas" but I didn't like the texture. I started with the greek yogurt and my multivitamin. Much better alternative. Good luck!
God bless,

Hi All,

I'm new to this group. Been on the plan for a month now, doing fine. In so far as the bars, I experienced the same "discomfort". Is there any reason why they can't be deleted from the meal plan if we are using other substitutes?

I like the anytime bars, but have the gas issue as well. I started taking a probiotic called "Culturelle", and my gas is gone. I like the chocolate peanut butter anytime bars, and I feel like I get a cheat...so I don't substitute. Any of the afore mentioned dairy products work though!

Hi Ness! Welcome to the boards! Please feel free to come often. You'll find a lot of great folks here, support, answers to questions and just the knowledge that you're not going through this alone. :)

As far as the Anytime bars are concerned, yes, you can eliminate them if you're doing something like the FF yogurt, cottage cheese, or string cheese AND a multivitamin. There's no reason to do both. So if you're having problems with them or you don't like them, don't order them. Most of us don't. :)

I once complained to my doc that all of the veggies, whole grains, etc were making me gassy. She replied "Fart or be Fat." Not really what I wanted to hear but as I think back over college roomates, etc that were thin, they were more gassy than me, but not any more. Thank goodness they aren't fragrant. (TMI?) sorry
Sincerely,
Pegs

Thanks, Phyllis. It's nice to know there are others out there that have the same type of questions and concerns, especially as a "Newbie!"

I think, as note I said think, its due to the fact that they have a lot of fiber in them. Fiber one bars do the same thing to my mother in law. I dont have a porblem with them, and actually enjoy the fiber one and (so far) the anytime bars. As CLMomma says, my JC consultant told me today they replace dairy. I find the greek yogurt by chobani especially yummy and lots of different flavors that are non-fat that you can try!:)

I was always a fan of the anytime bar but had the same problem, UNTIL I discovered that drinking LOADS of water with my anytime bar eliminated the problem! I drank at least a 24 ounce bottle of water with the bar to stop the issues. Since I reached goal, I've switched to Pria bars. Agreed with a previous post, the Mint Chocolate are delish!!! I get them at Market Basket for $1 each. :)

They anytime bars never gave me gas. If it's the fiber giving you gas/bloat - you need to drink WAY more water.
Otherwise, the fiber is just sitting in your body.

The most likely culprit is the Anytime bars but depending on the types of veggies you're eating, they also could be adding to the "problem."

I would test it out and cut the anytime bars out but that means I have to drink more milk or yogurt. And here I thought that it was just my stomach reacting to the healthy eating LOL

I knew that the "embarrassing question" would have to do with gas. I didn't associate it with the Anytime bars, which I really love and look at like a treat. Rather, I think it is all the raw vegetable. Whatever....sometimes I think I am walking three inches off of the ground from all the gas!! I hate this part. I don't want to give up the bars. Maybe I will try "Beano."

I am a newbie as well... still finishing my first week... and was wondering what I was doing wrong to have all that gas. Embarassing at work.. I absolutely understand crawling under the desk or hiding in a corner. Thanks to all who wrote in about the bars. That could be the cause of it. Dairy and I don't mix well together... they taste good but wow... can't deal with the gas.... will try the alternatives provided.

Thanks for writing in.... we are all in this together.... go JC!

Thank you so much for this post, cause I'm experiencing the same thing. SO embarassing at work! Thank God I'm in my office by myself most of the time. I do like the anytime bars though as well as the idea of them having the multivitamin. I may have to try some of these alternatives though, for the safety of others at work at the very least! ;)
