Hey all! I'm 30 and I'm getting married in August. I'm hoping to lose 30 lbs for my wedding. I started Jenny last week and I had my first weigh in since starting yesterday. I'm down 7lbs! I know not to expect such drastic losses in the future but I'm still super excited. My issue is that last week and this week I've spent over $140 each time I've purchased food. I didn't get the dressing or soupitizers either. Help me!!! What is cheap? If I keep spending $600 /month I won't make it to my wedding!

Hi and welcome to JC and the boards! And congrats on a FANTASTIC first week! :)

You're going to make a GORGEOUS bride!!!

As for the food, you can buy regular breakfast whole grain cereals at the supermarket and that's MUCH less expensive. Walden Farms makes some great salad dressings that are 0 calories. You also can buy your snacks at the supermarket that are more affordable. Just keep them to around 100-150 calories. Those two changes alone will lower your costs dramatically.

The next time you go to your JC center, ask for a printout of the food price list. There are a couple of lists on the boards but I understand that some of the prices have gone up so you might want a more current list.

Please come to the boards often. We'd love to help you reach your goal and learn how to keep the weight off. :)

CONGRATULATIONS!! On the 7lb. loss! I am in my first week and I weigh in on Thursday. I definitely hope to have a similar first week. =-D I have a LONG way to go to achieve my goal weight and I feel the same way. I do JC @ Home and the cost of these foods along with the $70 shipping is just not going to work for the long haul. My thoughts have been also to create my own breakfast (I'm always good with my breakfasts), snacks, and anytime bar option. I am still waiting for a price list from my JCC, but once I get that I am going to begin calculating for next months purchase NOW and see what my next step should be. Congratulations on the wedding and I know you will make your goal for your special day!!

Way to go on your first week. 7 lbs in AMAZING!!!

Couple of suggestions to save some cash. I use Mrs. Buttersworth Sugar Free Syrup and for salad dressing I use Bolthouse - both suggested by my JCC.

Hope week two ROCKS for you!!!

I too cut out anytime bars and my snack. I love the skinny cow desserts. For my snacks I eat the 100 calorie packs from target. They are the market pantry I believe. They have low sodium content and really good. They are also much, much more inexpensive. Hope that helped.
God bless,
Kayla

7 pounds lost in the first week = AMAZING! That is so exciting!! Keep up the great work!!

I too in about another 4 weeks will discuss with my JC counselor about cutting out the snacks and deserts for cost reasons. My husband has been telling me he'd like to join Jenny Craig soon :D and it's going to get pretty spendy with both of us on the plan.

All the best to you and your wedding.....you will be a beautiful bride, just a bit poorer, teehee!

Just picked up my final week of food on the (1-2-3 program-28 days) at the centre today and just FYI it cost me a total of $657 for the four weeks for food and an additional 49 for the program cost. These are Canadian costs in Canadian dollars. I only bought the soupitizer the first week, but do continue to buy our Canadian bar.....I quite like the raison/cinnamon yogurt bar). I know I will be substituting some of my own breakfasts next go around. I suggested it a week ago and the centre director/consultant said no don't do it or the program may not work......I am doing it anyhow and then will report if I notice a difference. I can't see where one shredded wheat worth 85 calories is going to differ from whole grain hoops with a worth of 140 calories. Weigh in today was -3.1 lbs after a 0.4 gain last week......total to date 6 lbs.......I can see it is going to take me a long time and a lot of dollars to get to a goal......rough estimate if I go for 6 months $4200.

Has anyone substituted eggs cooked on a nonstick pan with a 1/2 piece of whole grain toast for any of the breakfasts....I really don't like the cheesy egg omelette or scramble. I may ask my consultant that next week. Thanks for listening and have a good week all!

Congrats, Westlock, on your loss so far! Good for you! :)

And, yes, to be honest, I did sub out the cereal and the egg with a slice of whole wheat toast VERY often for the JC breakfasts because it was a great way to get the costs down.

Did it hurt? I don't know. I was a slow loser when I was entirely on JC, so if my weight was off by a couple of ounces, it wasn't worth it for me to spend that much more money.

Hi Westlock - way to go on the great weigh in!

As for food - I never purchased the soupitizers and I switched out the anytime bars as well.

I am doing only about half of the breakfasts on JC - I sub in either cereal or an english muffin with one egg and some fat free cheese. Yes, it can be done and you can still lose the weight.

Best of luck to you!
Nancy

Thanks for all of the encouragement :) I am ordering the 110 calorie Pria bars and I also found Luna Bar Mini's that have 80 calories and 4 grams of protein. Next week I will cut back on snacks since I have a bunch saved up from this week.

Thanks again!

This topic seems to come up periodically. Since I am a newbie (five weeks), I don't have anything to add but I LOVE reading the suggestions and everytime, I learn a new one. Thanks folks for sharing and thanks MissMrs for asking!
Sincerely,
