A year after staying at goal weight? Immediately? 6 months? I really believe that it isn't a good idea to keep them but I want to get to a point after I reach goal ( I have a ways to go yet) when I have to do it. I dom't want a part of me believing that I need them just " in case". I think that is a negative mindset.

I am at goal and have been on maintenance for 8 months now. I still keep a few of my one size bigger clothes for "just in case"......just in case I gain due to unplanned issues like sodium gain, TOM, hormonal changes, making bad choices on girls night out  or any number of unforeseen issues that would cause me to run to the back of my closet for those "just in case" clothes for temporary comfort.

Any one of those can strike at anytime causing a rapid weight gain (which I have found out over the 8 months of maintenance. ha) and I am not about to go out and buy new 'bigger' clothes when I plan on getting the weight right back off  lol. I dont really see that as a negative mindset, but more like being realistic :)

I get rid of things as I go along. About 5 yrs ago I lost 50 lbs and kept my fat pants sort of for laughs. It was cute til I was wearing them again. This time as soon as something gets big I pass it on. I give myself no excuses this time around.

I got rid of virtually all of my "fat" clothes after hitting maintenance and maintaining for a couple of months (had been getting rid of some in dribs and drabs).

I don't have any "fat" clothes left but I do have a couple of pairs of slacks that have a wider leg and/or an elastic waistband but if I have a temp gain due to sodium or meds or whatever, I'd rather be uncomfortable for a couple of days in clothes that are a wee too tight - but that's just me.

When I did gain 10 lbs. back last year over a very short period of time, the fact that I didn't have much of anything to wear is what forced me to go back to JC instead of waiting like many "returnees" do which allows them to put on 10, 20, 30 or more before deciding to come back.

It's going to be a personal decision - as are most things - and I'm sure we'll all have different opinions but making sure that if I see it in my clothes even before the scale shows it is what helps me to stay on track.

I got rid of my big stuff as soon as I couldn't wear them anymore. A few of my jeans are one size bigger only because I need long underware on in the winter when out training the dogs. This is the only reason I keep those. I am also on Maint and have gained a few pounds back when I started toning. This up set me some but am working on getting back down to goal with the help of my JCC. I have cut my intack back down so hopefully in a few weeks I will start to see a change. I have also upped my cardio to mix in with the toning. Can't cut out toning I need to firm up the loose stuff LOL.

Thanks, everyone. It is so helpful to know how each of you handled this. I think I'll keep some larger clothes for hormonal fluctuations but aim so eager to have most of my jeans and pants be those without elastic waists! So sick of elastic waists!

I am just about halfway and I cleaned out my closet over the holidays. Got rid of just about everything - gave the bulk to goodwill, the rest went in the trash.

This summer I will do the final purge and be done with clothes that do not fit!

I have gone from a size 20 to 10 & still some 12's.....In November, I had some really nice things altered (which was expensive, but I had some "fat" clothes I really liked & paid alot for). Took alot to the consignment store & the ones they did not want...I was glad I did not drop off at Goodwill as I ended up giving the rest to a lady who's house burned to the ground & needed sizes 14-16. I lost the majority of my weight with Weight Watchers and then I stalled out for several months & joined Jenny to lose these last 20 pounds....it has been slow with Jenny too & it may be my hormones & I enjoyed Christmas this year too much, but only 4 pounds now to go to get to goal. Tried on some Alfred Dunner brown pants Sat. and the 8 fit but I had picked up the short length & they did not have regular length in that color I was wanting. I haven't wore an 8 since I was in elementary school!!

Whooo-hoooo! You're doing great! And I'm so sorry to hear about that woman but so glad you were able to help her out with clothes. Congrats on your AMAZING transformation. When can we get to see some "before" and "after" shots to inspire others? (Hint, hint) :)
