Inner voice.......

I try to dismiss the voice, but some days it's hard to ignore. I wonder if it's just myself being critical --- pushing me so I don't give up, or if it's just all those negative voices I've heard from different people over the years creeping in...............ugh.
My question lies in how to be happy and love all those NSV's? I'm really trying to.......I think I just lose faith that if I celebrate it's the end..............I'm trying to approach this weight loss in a totally different way than before and so putting it all out there is part of it, lol
I've never before done mini goals, or even REALISTIC goals, so let's hear how others have maintained positivity and focus! Thanks for these boards, they are wonderful!

I lost 45 lbs. but it took me over a year to do it! (My job as an event and wedding planner had me going to weddings and events and food tastings where it was literally MY JOB to eat.) Needless to say, since it took so long, it was easy to get discouraged but I realized that it was more than about losing the weight. It was about me changing a lifetime of habits and my relationship with food and that helped me.
Yes, I set mini goals - 10 lbs at a time - and I'd do something nice for myself (and for a change, these celebrations didn't involve food - LOL). And slowly people started to notice (even the negative ones who somehow managed to give backhanded compliments and who were "concerned" either about my "health" or that I'd put it back on) and even more slowly *I* started to notice.
Of course, that didn't happen overnight and while that makes it tough sometimes (although 8 lbs. in three weeks is VERY good so congrats), but you have to understand it's a learning process. We have to unlearn all of our eating habits and re-learn to eat food.
Why I gained the weight wasn't as important and why I wanted to lose the weight.
I didn't feel good about myself when I was heavy and that affected how I worked, how I interacted with people, how I talked to potential clients or avoided approaching them altogether, etc. and I didn't feel like "me" and I wanted "me" back.
So decide what your motivation is and the stronger it is, the more likely you are to want to drop the weight AND keep it off...no matter how long it takes because after all, we're changing our relationship with food FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES so if it takes a few extra weeks (or months), it's okay because then you'll have more time to reinforce the good habits.
It's a process and it takes time but it can be done and YOU CAN DO IT! I have faith in you. Now PLEASE believe in yourself.

Here are just a few of my celebrations:
-having to move the seat car up because I am taking up less space
-of course dropping sizes - and getting rid of those fat clothes!
-being able to walk up the stairs without huffing and puffing
-I look at my weight loss in 10 pound increments - so much easier to handle it
-I celebrate when I pass on those unhealthy snacks and stick to plan.
-Celebrate when I increase my workout routine - still can't do a "real" push up, but I am close!
-My next big goal is to weigh less than my husband. Still have a bit of ways to reach that.
Do or do not....there is no try

But seriously, think of it this way... The majority of people give in to that inner voice and GIVE UP their diets when they hit the 3 week mark. You just said you are a little past 3 weeks, which means your chances of success are ALREADY amazingly, way better!!! Sure that inner voice can be hard to ignore, but in my book you are already winning that battle! You've got an amazing support group here on the forums, and just the fact that you came here to share your feelings has put you on the path to even more success. There's nothing wrong with reaching out for a little help, because help will ALWAYS be given here, and it will only make you stronger.
We all fight our own little mental demons, nobody ever said losing weight was easy. Maybe the trick for you IS to use that demon voice as a swift kick in the pants, just so you can prove it wrong! Stay positive always, tell yourself you are worth the effort, and realize that there is absolutely NO SHAME in celebrating little victories! Like I've seen it said here many times before, "You didn't put all that weight on in a day, it isn't going to come off in a day either." So what's the point in withholding celebrating and feeling good for the VERY END?? Don't you want to feel good on the whole journey!? You should, and you CAN, because every little victory leads to another, and they sure add up to make one big beautiful picture.
You've done amazing things in those first three weeks (8lbs! WOW!), just imagine what a difference in mind and body you'll feel after another 8lbs... and another 8lbs... Before you know it, you WILL be looking in the mirror and saying, "Wow, I actually AM changing the way I look!" Positive thoughts will go a long way in banishing that "inner voice." Believe in yourself! YOU CAN DO IT!
