Entering the JC forum confessional... I fell off the wagon yesterday and don't quite understand why. I've done really well so far battling temptation. There have been a few slips along the way (while on vacation, family gatherings, etc.), but nothing so blatantly bad as this. I left work early due to a bad migraine and stopped by the AM/PM on the way home specifically to buy junk food. I was having a good week, great weigh in, excited about my running schedule...then this happens. I was feeling bad, sorry for myself, and felt like I deserved it. A bag of ruffles and box of good n' plenty later, I was feeling REALLY depressed. After six months of strong success, why did I give in?

We all have our slip ups - it may have been the migraine, stress or just wanting some junk food.

The most important thing is not to feel guilty about it, and to get back on track. If it is just a one time thing and you don't make it a "rest of the week" thing you will be ok.

Oh - those ruffles? (my favorite) - you may want to start drinking a bunch more water to get rid of some of the salt!!

I just started Jenny a week ago....and totally gave in to snacking the other night :( I felt sooooo low. But I got back on track....I'm sure you will do the same. At the end of the day, we are human...and stuff happens. I went for and extra long walk yesterday and did a workout video (well half the video hahaha)

Keep going, you can do it :)

Look, it happens. Don't beat yourself up too much.

I've had migraines since I was five so I TOTALLY understand and you have my complete sympathy. They're terrible. :(

I know when I have one, I want chocolate or something salty. I'm not sure why. And if I break down and take a strong pain reliever (like a percocet or vicodin), the cravings are even worse.

I think part of it is that you just want something comforting to distract you from the pain.

Now, when it happens I keep Skinny Cow chocolate clusters on hand and the 100 calorie baked Cheetos. I'm still probably taking in more snacks than I should but at least I'm not totally destroying the day.

So if you want to be admonished (and I think you're probably beating yourself up more than anyone else could ) let me just say - "BAD, BAD, NAUGHTY, NAUGHTY! Don't do that again, young lady!" ;)

Now, forget about it and get back on track and double your water to get rid of the salt. If these headaches come frequently and you're afraid you're going to do something like this again, be prepared with healthier snacks. :)

Feel better! :)

Hugs!

Saying you fell off the wagon says it all. I'm sure a lot of people on here are trying to loose weight because they are food addicts. And, just like any addiction you can slip. Sometimes you just want to stuff your face. Unfortunately, the public doesn't consider food an addiction. They look at drugs, alcohol as serious addictions and people who eat too much food as just fat people who like to eat and they don't don't offer the same kind of support. They just look down at overweight people. Lucky for you, you do have a support system, right here. You slipped, you have acknowledged your mistake and we all know you can get back on track and put this behind you. Go girl go!!

I think you already nailed it when you said, "I was feeling bad, sorry for myself, and felt like I deserved it." Most of us are coming to JC with such a mixed-up relationship with food...which, for so long, was a source of comfort, companionship, reward, consolation, whatever. Food is not supposed to be these things! We are all learning that. I'm absolutely utterly impressed you made it 6 whole months of strong success!!! Don't worry about a slip. You are on a journey. Everyone here is right. Drink tons of water, go for an extra walk, get straight back on plan, and you'll be fine. :) Go get a glass of water and read this: http://www.theweight...com/motivation/

You'll be fine!!! :)

Thanks for all the support and well wishes. Going out for a walk at lunch helped. Best you can do is pick back up where you left off and move on.

Jen, you slipped; acknowledged it; put it out in the open for us all to see. Then, woke up this morning and went right back on track. You just followed what you have been taught over the past six months. Great work!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jen, like Gwenie said at the end of the day we are all human, and this will happen. Just b/c we on jc does not exempt us from being human and making bad choices from time to time.....and believe me, even when you reach goal and are on maintenance you will still slip up from time to time. So just get over this and move on girl.....just the mere fact you went 6 months w/out a slip speaks volumns about your dedication to your program.

So I applaud your diligence......no hard kick in the pants from me. lol

Sounds like stress was the most likely culprit here, the reason you were pushed to indulge. Stress can be hard to overcome, as it causes us to physically feel crappy, crave things, and then feel mentally crappy as a result! You've already got some great advice here regarding battling it in the future: keep healthier snacks on hand as an option, taking an extra walk, and most importantly, getting back on track! After all, one dent doesn't ruin the entire car! ;) You've worked really hard to come this far, and one stupid little slip-up is not going to defeat you, right?
