Hey! Was wondering if anyone every tried eating a little more one day to shock /jump start your weight loss? Is this a rumor or does this actually work?

I have only lost 2.3 lbs this month (7 since starting 11/8/11) and someone suggested this. I have about10 more to go.

Thoughts?? Thanks :)

Roxy, are you doing a lot of exercise? If so, yes, I've heard people switching up for a week or two (but by the end of the two days, the calories even out) and it helped to jumpstart their weight loss again.

What does your JCC think?

YES! It really does work, I am a testament to it. Its called Calorie Cycling or ZigZaging. Here are a couple of links about it.

So in jc terms, one day you eat all high calorie foods and the next day all lower cal foods? Should I take a week 1 menu And look up calories online? Or incorporate my own food? Also, how many days should this be done for? I am confused I case you couldn't tell LOL. Thanks!!

Roxy, yes you eat higher calories one day and lower ones the next....it all balances out in the end. I think you should run this by your jcc and see how he would suggest you going about it, it can be confusing. The site I gave you link to, Calorie Count, explains how to work it on certain days.

Also when calories cycling, on the days you eat lower calories, you need to slow down your exercising......then kick it up on the days when you eat higher calories. Doing this just keeps your body guessing and therefore you will keep losing.

And again, run this by your jcc first.

I am going to try calorie cycling this week....i read up on it and my JCC said it is okay to try... i just had one question - since i am already on the 1200 calorie plan, in order to go up some days, i'd also have to go down other days ... is it okay to eat less than 1200 calories some days? i always hear never to do that.... please help! :)

Yes, that is what you will have to do to have your calories balance out. It is ok just temporarily and the reason why you should only do calorie cycling for a few days....you wouldnt want to go below 1200 for long.

no! please do not ever go below 1200 calories!!! there is a "JC approved" way to cycle your calories and your JCC should have told you how to do this! i am a centre director at my jenny. if you need to cycle your calories and you're on 1200 then you should plan your week like this:
day 1: 1500 calories
day 2: 1500 calories
day 3: 1200 calories
day 4: 1500 calories
day 5: 1500 calories
day 6: 1200 calories
day 7: 1200 calories

repeat this for 2 weeks and then go back to doing your normal 1200cal menu. this is only adding in 1 extra fruit & 1 extra milk into your normal day, but it makes a huge difference. if you reduce your calories below 1200 then you're not getting the calories your body needs, which sends it into a "starvation mode" which will cause your body to store any extra calories that you take it because it needs the nutrients. this will slow your metabolism and can cause you to gain weight! i know it sounds counter-intuitive to increase your calories on certain days, but i promise your body will thank you. also, if you've recently increased your workouts fairly drastically, you may need more calories overall and your jcc can check this in our computer system. let me know how it goes. good luck! :)

Honestly, I think "Starvation Mode" is a slightly overused term used by the consultants and occasionally flung around here on the boards as well.....it takes quite a bit of calorie restricting to go into starvation mode. I would agree if someone was restricting calories everyday, then yea, that would be a high probability......thats why calorie cycling is only recommended for a short time (a few days). The method I have used as I stated above has been used with MUCH success by myself as well as others here on the boards over the yrs....and of course this is my Opinion only ^_^ (due to my experience and results) , and like I said above, ALWAYS get your jcc's approval before calore cycling :)

Wow! Im one of those that if I eat off of the plan of 1200 by perhaps have some extras I do NOT lose. Now Im wondering why that is? The weeks I ate extras...one day of 1500-1600 I didnt lose :-(
