All around me are people eating pizza, cheeseburgers, cookies, etc. They alway offer them to me even though they know I am on Jenny Craig. I don't feel like anybody else takes my goals seriously.

We take you seriously here Cyndi!

There will always be temptations - and shame on those around you who know you are trying to eat healthy and still push the food. Who knows, maybe they are just being polite, or maybe jealous of you.

But this is your journey and you can make it happen with or without them! You have the strength and courage inside of you to do this! It will be hard at times but put your mind to show them a thing or two about resisting all the junk food!

Wishing you all the best!
Nancy

It will get easier with time. Once you start seeing the difference in your weight and how you feel, you will realize the food they are eating and offering is not so tempting anymore. And once they see the changes in you, they may start making better choices themselves. Make sure you have supplies with you, like bringing a bag of free veggies with you to have somethig to nosh on if you feel like giving in. You can do this!

We're here and we know how important this is so please come here whenever you feel you're not getting the kind of support you deserve.

But, look, I think some people are just clueless and not necessarily insensitive. They mean well but they're misguided.

Hang in there. To this day I STILL get people trying to push food in my face even when they knew how hard I struggled to lose the weight but for them it's wrong not to be "gracious" and "hospitable." If they didn't offer me things they think I would be insulted. (sigh)

But you can and you WILL do this! We're here and cheering you on! :)

I would like to say it will get better but really temptations and food pushers are always going to be there.

Stay strong, it gets easier to resist.

You can do this.

Hi Cyndi,

This is the most difficult thing for anyone to do. Culturally, food is such an important part of our lives. Not in the obvious way, in that it's necessary to live. Eating, dining together are forms of friendship, bonding, intimacy. We can't imagine not offering people something -- pizza, burger, fries.

I have many people asking me if I miss this thing or that, and then tell me they sure couldn't do what we're trying to do.

When I selected this program, it was with my doctor's recommendation. He warned me that dieting is the most difficult undertaking any person will perform. He advised that I use Jenny or WW. He said this program will help us learn how to eat in a healthy and nondestructive way. Knowing this, in many ways I feel sorry for all those food pushers out there. We'll be in a much better place in just a few months than they will be -- is it possible that in a subconscious way they sense this, and as a result want to see if they can get us to fall off the wagon, as they used to say about people who tried to stop drinking?

I wonder...

Hang in there. People can be clueless. But we don't have to let them get to us. We each have a goal. We take it one meal at a time, and we'll get there.

Good luck. Chat again soon.

Hi Nancy,

Thanks for the complement! I needed that. Today was especially difficult, but I got through it.

Cyndi,

Sorry to hear you aren't feeling the support you need! I do tend to agree with what Phyllis and others here have said; eating and sharing food is a normal, bonding experience for people and they are probably making those offerings to you without malice. Not five minutes ago, my boyfriend asked me if I wanted popcorn and candy for the movie we're soon heading out to... Uh...Nooo! He knows I've been very good about what I eat (and he's very supportive) but some things are so ritualistic (popcorn at movies) that it can slip the mind. I told him I've already got my baggie of orange slices and a water bottle ready to take with us. :)

It still isn't easy to pass up on temptations like that, but believe me, we are PROUD OF YOU because YOU are taking your goals seriously. That is most important. :)
