You want to be healthy when you start a family and now is a great time to start. If you start building in healthy habits into your life now, you can keep them up and not gain all the extra weight many women do when they're "eating for two."
As far as socializing and going out, yes, when you're starting (or re-starting) the program, you should try to stay with the JC food as much as possible but that doesn't mean that you can't go out.
The problem with too many of us who struggle with weight is that we make the "socializing" as much about the food as it is about the people. You just might benefit from re-thinking your priorities when going out with friends.
What REALLY (at least for me) is the best thing about being out with friends is the FRIENDS!!! Yes, they are just as much fun and I have just as good a time when I eat healthy as I did when I was filling my face with all kinds of junk food and fatty stuff. So you can still go out and have fun with friends but stick to eating healthier foods.
For instance, if you're going out to dinner, you can have your JC meal (at least in the beginning) and when you're at the restaurant, have a salad or a veggie platter. Yes, it's hard when everyone is chomping on desserts or appetizers and such but you said it's not about the food that you miss it's about missing your friends. So if that's true, then it doesn't matter what you eat when you're with them, right?
The change of mindset doesn't happen overnight but if you work at it, it becomes second nature.
My hubby and I meet our friends for wings and fries (our fav restaurant when we get together) and then go to another place for dessert.
So while they're chomping on the fries and wings, I'll be munching on a salad and eating some of the celery sticks. And when we head to the dessert place, I have a JC snack with me and I'll order a FF beverage and pull out a JC brownie.
And at the end of the evening, I can focus on the laughs we had and not feel guilty about the food I consumed and then it's a REALLY good evening.
It just takes a little time and practice. You deserve this. You want this. And you CAN do this!
Please let us know how it's going.
