hi everyone, happy friday

this week i FINALLY started going to the gym! it has been 11 weeks on JC and i am down 10 pounds. i used to resent going to the gym, and so far i went tuesday night half hour on the treadmill and last night i did zumba class for an hour. both times this week, i have left feeling AMAZING! that was a great feeling because now i can't wait to go again tonight

UNFORTUNATELY, i weighed myself this morning, and i have gained .5 since last friday! i am so upset. i finally started to feel good about going to the gym, but my weight went up.

i don't think i am working out hard enough to up my calories. and am drinking SOO much water
what is going on here?!?!

Congrats on the 10 lbs! I am very interested to see what the responses are because I am in the same position. I have really bumped up my exercise and went back full on Jenny program. My weight, too, has increased. But, I am with you, the feeling after working out or doing zumba is amazing and empowering. Maybe we are gaining muscle?

don't worry about such a minor gain. it could be any number of factors. sounds like you're on the right track and don't loose your excitment about the gym.......it will all benefit you in the long run. good luck and enjoy!!

The weight gain is probably just a temporary bump - make sure you are getting lots of water if you have increased your exercise routine. You both are doing fabulous!!!

Congrats on losing 10. I can't wait to say that! I have recently started working out myself. Remeber that when you work out you will be building muscle, so that can effect the scale. Keep it up. In the past I have seen my weight loss speed up due to my workouts. You will be so glad you have hung in there. Just give it time.

Congrats on losing 10 lbs! My weight loss has been all over the place (firs 3 then 2, then 1.4, then 2 ounces). But...the last two weeks I have lost 3 lbs each week! I contribute it to drinking a lot of water (I drink about 80 oz per day now because of exercising so much) I do Zumba 3 times a week (I use the WII and do it at home) and I stick to the plan super closely!

I know that the Zumba exercise has helped me burn a TON more calories and I think that's why my weight loss went up. I feel obsessed now...I want to do it every day for 14 days just to see what happens! my JCC laughed and warned me that I might get sick of it!

Any way...You can do this!!!

I don't know if you have a dog or not but I've started chasing mine around the yard vs just walking her and it's really helped! She loves the extra play time and it makes working out fun. Just 10 to 20 min twice a day helped me drop 1.5 pounds in a week when I had birthday cake and fudge and was sure I'd gain!

Don't freak out about the .5

It's going to happen while your body "changes". With exercise, water and a change in diet...you body is renewing itself. It will balance out one you get into your rhythm.

Not sure if this helps or not...but I started something called "High Intensity Interval Training" about two months ago. It takes about 21 minutes on the treadmill (elliptical, stair stepper...doesn't matter what cardio machine you use)

It's changed my life. It sounds complicated...but it is fantastically easy...and it keeps the calories burning AFTER you have finished working out. Allowing you to have a guilt free rest day...if you really work it properly.

You can read about it all over the internet (wikipedia is a good place to start) You will discover, as I did...what my trainer said was true. You don't need to spend that much time on the treadmil..as a matter of fact..people spend too much time on the treadmill and it's not helping them.

But I just the simpliest version of it.

Minute 0 to 3 = Walk at a brisk pace (for me about 3.8 on the treadmill)

Minute 3 to 3:30 = Run my *** off at 100% of my ability (for me today that is a 10 on the treadmill)

Minute 3:30 to 5:00 = Walk at brisk pace (for me about 3.8 on the treadmill)

Minute 5:00 - 5:30 = Run my *** off again at 100% of my ability

Minute 5:30 - 7:00 = Walk

Minute 7:00 - 7:30 = Run at 100%

Minute 7:30 - 9:00 = Walk

Minute 9:00 - 9:30 = Run at 100%

Minute 9:30 - 11:00 = Walk

Minute 11:00 - 11:30 = Run at 100%

Minute 11:30 - 13:00 = Walk

Minute 13:00 - 13:30 = Run at 100%

Well you get the point. Basically I run on the "odd" minutes for :30 seconds. My last run is at 21 minutes for :30 seconds. I'm usually wiped out...you should be..that's the point of the exercise. Especially when I'm on the elliptical machine...it kicks me.

I do a cool down walk for 3 minutes afterwards...so less than 30 minutes on the treadmill altogether.

Starting out I only did six "runs"..because that was all I could do. Today, I'm up to 10 of the "runs" and I've been pushing myself to hit 11 this week.

I've lost 59 pounds...on Jenny and doing this activity. It's completely changed my life.

Again..not sure if it helps. But I hated the idea of spending an hour in the gym. I haven't yet...unless I sit around and chat with people there. I'm in and out in about 30 minutes.

Anyway...good luck and keep working the program. Jenny Craig works...if you work it.
