this week i FINALLY started going to the gym! it has been 11 weeks on JC and i am down 10 pounds. i used to resent going to the gym, and so far i went tuesday night half hour on the treadmill and last night i did zumba class for an hour. both times this week, i have left feeling AMAZING! that was a great feeling because now i can't wait to go again tonight
UNFORTUNATELY, i weighed myself this morning, and i have gained .5 since last friday! i am so upset. i finally started to feel good about going to the gym, but my weight went up.
i don't think i am working out hard enough to up my calories. and am drinking SOO much water
what is going on here?!?!

I know that the Zumba exercise has helped me burn a TON more calories and I think that's why my weight loss went up. I feel obsessed now...I want to do it every day for 14 days just to see what happens! my JCC laughed and warned me that I might get sick of it!
Any way...You can do this!!!

It's going to happen while your body "changes". With exercise, water and a change in diet...you body is renewing itself. It will balance out one you get into your rhythm.
Not sure if this helps or not...but I started something called "High Intensity Interval Training" about two months ago. It takes about 21 minutes on the treadmill (elliptical, stair stepper...doesn't matter what cardio machine you use)
It's changed my life. It sounds complicated...but it is fantastically easy...and it keeps the calories burning AFTER you have finished working out. Allowing you to have a guilt free rest day...if you really work it properly.
You can read about it all over the internet (wikipedia is a good place to start) You will discover, as I did...what my trainer said was true. You don't need to spend that much time on the treadmil..as a matter of fact..people spend too much time on the treadmill and it's not helping them.
But I just the simpliest version of it.
Minute 0 to 3 = Walk at a brisk pace (for me about 3.8 on the treadmill)
Minute 3 to 3:30 = Run my *** off at 100% of my ability (for me today that is a 10 on the treadmill)
Minute 3:30 to 5:00 = Walk at brisk pace (for me about 3.8 on the treadmill)
Minute 5:00 - 5:30 = Run my *** off again at 100% of my ability
Minute 5:30 - 7:00 = Walk
Minute 7:00 - 7:30 = Run at 100%
Minute 7:30 - 9:00 = Walk
Minute 9:00 - 9:30 = Run at 100%
Minute 9:30 - 11:00 = Walk
Minute 11:00 - 11:30 = Run at 100%
Minute 11:30 - 13:00 = Walk
Minute 13:00 - 13:30 = Run at 100%
Well you get the point. Basically I run on the "odd" minutes for :30 seconds. My last run is at 21 minutes for :30 seconds. I'm usually wiped out...you should be..that's the point of the exercise. Especially when I'm on the elliptical machine...it kicks me.
I do a cool down walk for 3 minutes afterwards...so less than 30 minutes on the treadmill altogether.
Starting out I only did six "runs"..because that was all I could do. Today, I'm up to 10 of the "runs" and I've been pushing myself to hit 11 this week.
I've lost 59 pounds...on Jenny and doing this activity. It's completely changed my life.
Again..not sure if it helps. But I hated the idea of spending an hour in the gym. I haven't yet...unless I sit around and chat with people there. I'm in and out in about 30 minutes.
Anyway...good luck and keep working the program. Jenny Craig works...if you work it.
