So, initially I decided to start with the 28 day plan and I have been very happy with the results. Then, I decided to do it for another month...BUT my consultant (who I love and trust) offered the metabolic max special deal. Should I try it? Should I do it? Do I need to? I have about 12 more pounds to lose....can anyone "weigh" in?

THANKS!

You mean she wants you to spend over $100 on the armband and the monthly registration fee (unless I'm not understanding what the metabolic max deal is).

My JCC advised against me doing that program because I didn't have that much to lose - around 10 lbs. And you're only 12 lbs. away and are doing so well so unless I'm missing something, I'm not sure why you would need it.

Just my opinion. Maybe others will have a different viewpoint or can explain something about the program that I'm not understanding.

yes i think you should take advantage of this its half off i think then the food discounts then the maint and half back that more then covers the armband!!!!! Its amazing even with a lil to lose when you have less the last ten are always harder to lose. Plus being able to accually see what activity burns more calories you can focus on that and see your daily deficit between calorie burn and daily intake. Plus when your doing your own food you want to make sure you are getting that right balance. I think the armband is an amazing tool. atleast upgrade to one of the maintenence programs !!!

:) Hi Mainegirl,

Tell me a little bit about your background? I thought that you had been trim and slim most of your life and that it was the pregnancy that put on the weight. The metabolic max band does give you alot of data on what your body is doing but I don't know whether you would benefit from the cost.

Personally I have found the metabolic max band to be helpful in terms of the calories that I am burning. I am in my early 50s and at the moment I am concerned about the number of calories that I burn on a daily basis. Also I am petite so I have to be very careful on how much I consume each day.

I love the band but sometimes the Body Media website can be frustrating with unexplained outages. Its a great tool but sometimes the technology is frustrating.

Before you purchase the band weigh the financial cost very carefully. I would hate for you to make a heavy investment when you only need it for a short period of time.

Take care and by the way you are doing an awesome job!

I decided against the armband thing - thought it was WAY too pricey considering what I was already spending on a registration fee and food costs each month.

I've found other and much less expensive - ways to track calores eaten and burned.

I track my calores on www.myfitnesspal.com. It has all the JC foods in its database, or you can add in your own foods by way of their search feature. And it has a nice smartphone app - i record my food via my phone as I am eating my meal. The phone app also has a bar scan feature so you can scan any food and it will record it. Best of all myfitnesspal is FREE!!

You also record the calories you burn into myfitnesspal. You can estimate your calories, or use their database to estimate. The way I do it is that I purchased a heart rate monitor that not only gives me a heart rate reading but it gives the calories burned as well. I have the Polar FT series and it cost about $65 on Amazon - you just want to make sure you get a heart rate monitor that also gives you the calories burned - not all do.

Now the bodymedia that you get from JC says to wear it 24/7. I only use my heart rate monitor during workouts and use that to log into myfitnesspal. I've found by just logging in my food and my exercise calories is enough to keep me on track - and it was considerable less expensive than the body media device.

I wish you all the best!!
Nancy

nancy - thanks so much for the myfitnesspal tip - I just joined! :)

mainegirl - what is the armband deal you were offered? I didn't get it because I don't think I'd like having it on all the time. I also tend to like bare essentials vs. bells and whistles - I don't think I'd take the time to actually utilize its full functionality. But others here LOVE it! You should poke around the metbolic max forums. :)

I have the armband and I love it! However, I have a total of almost 70 lbs to lose. I think that if you just have a small amount of weight to lose, it may not be the best choice for you. I could go on all day about how much I love it, and the way seeing the data from it in front of my face is very helpful, but I am probably going to be actively doing JC alot longer than you LOL!

If you are considering usint the armband after you are done JC for your own personal purposes, look into getting one on your own. Do the cost comparisons and see which is the more appropriate choice for you.

I'm a couple days late, but here are my thoughts on the band: It's a great tool for weight loss and for long term maintenance. Prior to joining JC on the MM plan, I thought I was moving "enough" because I have a very active job. However, with the band I have become more conscious of how much I am moving every single day and it has given me the motivation to be more active in general. My calorie burn is much more consistent now than I believe it was before, for example I would work hard, physically, at work for 2 or 3 days a week but eat for 7 days assuming I had made up those calories when in fact I hadn't. So if you are concerned about maintaining your weight loss, I would recommend the band.
