Hey everyone. I have a question about the salad kits. I know on the planned menus, they are not served with a morning fruit, however I was wondering if people avoid fruit in the morning when you have them for lunch? (when you're not on the planned menu) I have been curious and my jcc never told me this. Please let me know what u guys think thanks!!

I know that I'm not supposed to, but I still eat my two extra servings of fruit on the salad kit days. Love them too much to give up. On the upside, I only order the salad kits on days of outside activity when I don't have access to a microwave and am burning extra calories anyway.

You know, I never gave it a thought that there was fruit included in my kit so I probably shouldn't have eaten my other fruit serving. Oh, well, live and learn.

Whatever you decide, it's probably not going to have that much of an effect on your outcome for a week. If it's going to be a while until you see your JCC, why not give her a call. Otherwise, don't worry too much about it and ask that question the next time you go for a WI or you have your phone consultation.

I'm with Jen-I eat my normal fruit servings! Probably not right, but it's worked out ok so far, so I'll keep doing :)

Now that I have been getting the Vanilla/Chocolate Anytime Bars, I totally forgot that those bars count as a milk...so I have been having a milk with my cereal and my Anytime Bars. Oh well.

Since the topic is about salad kit fruits, sometimes I save the applesauce and replace it with another fruit. The applesauce has a longer shelf life than the tuna/chicken salad can does. And I love those little applesauce fruit cups!

I love those applesauce cups too!!! Has anyone found an applesauce in the store that is comparable? I'd like to continue eating this periodically if I ever reach maintenance LOL

Mindy, Motts make a good one and I like the little individual cups they have.....they are the size of JC ones. A while back someone ask the same question as you did to the Dietician about the nut. facts on the applesauce that comes in the tuna kits.....and I remember looking it up and it was very similar to the Motts brand. I cant seem to find that info now though :(

it's okay to eat your 2 additional fruits on the days when you have a salad kit & the fruit that comes in it. remember, you have 3 limited free foods and an additional fruit serving counts as one of them, so you're fine.

I don't like applesauce so I give that to my daughter. I dice half a small apple and slice up quarter cup of grapes to add to the chicken salad so it feels like i have more to eat.

While we are talking about the salad kits, does anyone else find them very difficult to open? If you use a knife you need to be careful not to puncture the lids of the salad or fruit. I just find it very frustrating and was wondering if I'm missing something...

I still eat my 2 servings of fruit in addition to the salad kit. I go more off the calorie count and the salad kits are pretty equal to any other JC lunch item. I eat them a few times a week because it's easy for me to eat in the car as a homecare RN. I'm losing weight, so even if I shouldn't have been, it's still working for me!

I don't have a lot of space in my cupboards so what I do is: Open the salad kits and put the crackers, fruit cups, and meat tins in their own respective containers. Sometimes I don't want crackers with my salad and I make a sandwich instead. Just Me. I take a slice of bread and spread the meat kit on it and I use a lot of veggies and make a large sandwich. And I use some other type of fruit. Kind of a meal on my own...but not really.
