How does this program work if you work night shift? I work 3 nights a week. Usually Friday, Sat, Sun. During the week I find myself up at night and sleeping during the day. I am thinking about joining, but the cost of food is concerning.

Hi edszebra!

We have many nightshifters here on the forums that are very successful on the program. Hopefully they will chime in.

Yes, the program is expensive...but so are medical bills from having to go visit the ole doc for all those ailments caused from being overweight....high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high blood sugar, bad knees, heart issues, fatty liver etc.... So it balances out in the long run.....and the payoff is having a new healthy, happy life.....which is priceless!!!!

Hope you decide to join....you will be glad you did!

It's not an inexpensive program to be sure. But IT WORKS!!! And for most of us, if you add up all the money we spend (and waste) on food, it becomes a more "reasonable" plan. Plus you get one-on-one support. Many of us who have had to take certain medicines because of the extra weight found that we could reduce or eliminate those drugs and that's another savings.

As for your shift work, we have lots of folks who are on shift work (nurses, post office, manufacturing, etc.) and they work with their JCC (their consultant) to adjust the program to fit their needs.

At the least, go and talk to someone at the center or call the 800 number and talk about what you need to make this work for you. And then come to the boards often. We're always sharing ideas and tips and helping to support one another.

It's a fabulous program. I lost 45 lbs. and kept it off for four years! :) I've never been on another program that I can say that about. And the food is REALLY tasty! :)

Come join us! You won't regret it. :)

Hi Edszebra! Welcome!
I'm a nurse, and I work 3 twelve hour shifts (7pm - 7am) each week, sometimes more. On my days off my sleep pattern is all mixed up, just like yours. My counselor says they have a lot of nurses and people who work other shifts at their center. I just learned to work around my schedule. When I go to work, I take a JC meal with me to heat up, along with plenty of snacks. (nonfat yogurt, fresh fruit, fresh veggies, a JC energy bar, etc). In the morning when I get home I usually have a breakfast meal. When I wake up in the afternoon I have a lunch meal. When I first joined, I just juggled things around until I found what worked for me. Your JC consultant will help you figure it out based on how many calories per day you have for your daily menu planner. The biggest challenge for me is getting in plenty of water - I don't drink during the day because I'm asleep, and at work I don't always remember to drink.

Also, what helped a lot was the arm band. You log in each day and enter what you eat. It measures your calorie intake and how many calories you are burning, along with how many hours per day you sleep. It calculates all this data and helps you see exactly what's going on. Your consultant can also explain it a lot better than I am.

The program is definitely not cheap, but for me it has been worth it. My son and I are doing it together. Since last May he has lost around 50 lbs and I have lost 75lbs. I think the cost of food actually ended up being close to what we were spending on eating out and junk food. We now eat a lot healthier and feel so much better. For me, that is priceless. I know there are less expensive programs out there, and they all work as long as you follow them. I've tried many other programs over the years, and this one has worked well for me. I like the personal weekly consultant visits. Also, the pre-planned weekly menus help when you are first starting because they take the guess work out as far as counting points or figuring what to buy and cook. You also learn portion control, and what a "normal" amount of food is. My son and I joke now about how much we used to eat, and thought nothing about portion size or how much we were actually eating.

Good luck on your weight loss journey!
Louise

The amount I spend at Jenny is what I would have normally spent at the grocery store. So I'm just shifting that amount from the store to Jenny, it's not really any different than what I'd spend during the week grocery shopping. I now no longer buy much at the grocery store and when I do it's not nearly as high as it used to be, because like I said it's shifted over to what I pay at Jenny. And it's worth it! The food is easy and quick to prepare. And I'm writing this as I eat a yummy Anytime Bar! : )
