Oh Shanice, my heart breaks when I read a post like yours. I am not even half way through but I had to respond.
I've been on every diet - and have lost weight on all of them. And then gained it all back - plus more. Once I reached goal I would eventually fall back into old habits.

So now I am in my 50's - and had a heart to heart "tough love" talk with myself. I was the one responsible for putting on the weight (eating junk food and not working out), and I am the one responsible for getting healthy. And that means changing how I live. Day in and day out. It's not saying "i'll diet and get the weight off and then I'll be done", it's saying I'm changing the way I look at food, making healthier choices and becoming more active.

While Jenny is a food program, the most important thing that I have learned so far (and it took me over 5 months on the program to get to this point) is to get my head in the game. I really think about what I eat now and realize that so many things just don't taste good enough for me to gain weight over.

I don't know if it is because I've matured, or i am just sick and tired of being the fattest one in the room and hate the way clothes look on me. Somehow my mindset changed - and i wish it had changed 15 years ago!

You have it in you to be the weight you want to be! You are right - get that word "can't" our of your vocabulary!

I don't know how much you want to lose, but losing the weight is just the first part of your journey. The second part is keeping it off. This is where I had to come to grips with my attitude. It was going to be a lifetime change for me if I wanted to be truely successful. To lose the weight and then keep it off. It takes work and determination.

So, look at what is motivating you. The stronger the motivation the better the chances are at sticking to the plan. You are worth the effort!!!! Please don't give up on yourself!!
Nancy

Shanice, I've lost the weight and kept it off and everything that Nancy had to say is the absolute truth.

YOU can do this! I know it because so many of us have been where you are and HAVE succeeded! :)

So stop talking to yourself and come to the boards and talk to us. We'll give you the support you need whenever you feel your spirit is flagging and we'll be here to help you in any way we can. You're not alone. Maybe knowing that will stop that stupid mean voice in your head (and in most of ours at one time or another). So the next time you hear "it" saying, "I can't." Just tell it to shut up because YOU CAN!!!! :)

Shanice, Nancy is so right in everything she is telling you! this is a head game. I used to feel sorry for myself, let other people discourage me, just give up and eat the junk, all while laying on the couch watching tv. But when I was 49, I told myself, that's it, I'm tired of being fat! I want to wear nice clothes, not from the big-girl store. I want to feel good, have energy to do things, and be healthy. Before I tuned 50, I was at my goal weight, and will never be heavy again. If I gain 5 to 10 lbs, I'll be right back at Jenny. But I'm still watching what I eat, exercising daily, and generally just trying to be healthy. I was watching Dr. Oz the other day, and he recommended sauerkraut? as a healthy food. I went and got some, and me and my husband ate it with dinner. He looked at me like I was crazy, but he ate it. I had no idea what it tasted like, just like beets, prunes and several other things I had never had, but read about the health benefits, and decided to try. Good luck, and keep us informed. We will be glad to help anyway we can.

Just as an FYI, fresh sauerkraut tastes MUCH different than canned sauerkraut (which is much more acidic tasting). And I like mine "fried" with a little Pam and some fennel seeds.

If I do have canned sauerkraut, I'll drain the can and rinse it well to reduce that sharp taste (although I prefer that taste if I'm having a hot dog) but I make sauerkraut different ways for different meals.

Shanice,
Hugs to you!
You have already gotten great advice.
I am a little over halfway lost, and already feel so much better about myself.
I was staring a 'milestone' birthday down and said I am tired of being so fat, miserable and uncomfortable.
Now, I am much more self confident and love to shop!
You can do it and YOU ARE WORTH IT!!!

Well Shanice, Here's my scoop. I joined JC to lose 25lbs- I thought that was going to be a stretch to lose and I thought it would be a "comfortable" weight for me. Here I am now, 50lbs lighter! I reached my JC goal and realized that it was easier than I thought because, as Nancy says- my head was in the game. I finally understand my food groups, portion control and how to walk away. Sometimes it just takes and "aha moment" I lost the last 25lbs without any JC food and have been keeping it off. So believe us when we say you can do it!! There are many success stories here and you CAN be one too! Good luck!

As all of the lovely ladies about me have posted, you can be successful! I am only five weeks in and found that when I look in the mirror (especially when I turn sideways) I think, I am still beautiful. I am in control of my body and one day I wont be heavy anymore! Jenny has opened me mind, body, and spirit to the world around me. I look at pictures of myself and think: that/this is/was the old me. I will never look like this again. I am only 23, but I have also accepted that I put on the weight and I can take it off. I dont put the blame on others, because in my situation it was me. Dont be down on yourself, be happy that you can change who you are right now. And these boards are a great place for advice, strength, and inspiration!
