Guilt free dining out

I'm going to make a speech here, and some of you may not want to hear it. Let me know. I seem to love controversy. Anyone should be able to dine out almost anywhere. It's all about your choices. I don't know if I have ever been to a restaurant that did not have something that I could order, and not completely lose it. Yes, it's hard when other people are pigging out, stuffing, and whatever. But you know how you'll feel , physically and mentally,after. When I went on maintenance, after a year of Jenny, I needed to feel rewarded for my success. We ate out several times a week. I would plan ahead. Go online and check out the menu if I had never been there before. Sometimes, there is no warning. I look at the menu, and make my decision. I don't allow anyone to influence me. And boy do they try. There are all kinds of salads. Grilled meat and veggies. Sandwiches that are not dripping cheese and mayo. Soups. Most restaurant meals are too much. If I can't split with someone, I don't mind bringing it home (for lunch tomorrow) If I get a burger, no cheese, all veggie on it, and it has too much bread, I pull if off. I don't want to waste alot of calories on extra bread. (unless it is awesome) I was with a work group that decided to eat lunch at the Pizza Buffet. No problem, I got a big salad, then 2 small pcs of pizza. I was totally satified. Most of the other people complained all afternoon about how bloated they felt. I half expected some of them to explode, after seeing what they ate. Be postive, we can do this. Food is not our life. Our life is too short to worry about food all the time.

I agree with this post 100% and I wish I could get my hubby to read it. We eat out more then we should to be honest and I've tried to explain to him that what that means is every meal isnt a "celebration" meal. If its his birthday then by all means go nuts but if its just a Tuesday night, you should probably get the grilled chicken with veggies and not the enchiladas. But I just make my choices and hope the I can set a good example for him.

I absolutely agree. And even yesterday when I was taken to a restaurant that didn't have a menu but simply "chef specials" I figured a way around it and still managed to stay on track by controlling my portion size of the TOTALLY fattening options I was offered (nope, no soup or salad or "plain" anything on the menu).

Why don't you just print it out and read it to him like you found something interesting you wanted to share and maybe he'll take the hint. :)

Thanks for posting this. I know my biggest downfall before joining Jenny was dining out. I was even diligent about sticking to 1200 calories ( honest), but once I joined Jenny, the mystery was solved. I was consuming too much sodium from restaurant food, not drinking water, and although I was sticking to 1200 calories, I was eating most of those calories at night. So, skipping breakfast , snacks, and had the wrong mindset that "i'll starve all day so I can load up all my food at night." Well, my metabolism completely shut down and I was not able to burn any calories (even though I was consuming only 1200 calories).

Everyday I would go to Panera Bread (for example) and select 1200 calories worth of food to eat, which is technically what I am doing now with Jenny (going in and ordering 1200 calories worth of food/day). However, Panera NEVER told me that I would have to eat every 2-3 hours, dont skip breakfast and drink alot of water. Panera didn't equip me with the life skills that I need to lose weight and maintain. So, I think Jenny is a much better program for me and I am happy I switched :)

phishicat, I was the same. I usually ate one BIG a day, then picked up bad snacks all day because I was starving. After the BIG evening meal, I felt so horrible, there was no way I could be active, and I also couldn't sleep because I felt stuffed. Now that I'm eating a balanced diet, every few hours of the day, I feel great. At age 50, I am more active than I have been in the last 10 years and haven't been to the breakroom snack machine in almost 3 yrs. I bring my own snacks from home, so when I get hungry, I'm covered.

I have eaten in restaurants throughout my whole weigh loss - I know it has slowed it down a bit - but I was able to lose, and to maintain that loss for some time now. My rules are - no bread - one drink a week/or water - no dessert.
I knew that just because I was going on Jenny my social life wasn't going to change - so I had to make it work for me.

Oh Yes, I am with you! Thats what would happen to me. Also, I love Almonds (haven't touched 1 almond since starting) and I would have a "handful" in the evenings thinking it was ok. Now that I am looking closer, my handful was lots of fat and almost 300 calories worth (I have big hands). So, I know what you mean about feeling hungry and then diving in.
I am hoping one day, I will walk into Panera and be able to eat something there but in moderation

I am relieved to hear that. I thought I would have to give up going out :unsure:

Isn't it great to realize that you can still have a "normal" life including dining out but knowing that you can still lose or maintain just by following the ideas you've learned from Jenny about portion control and nutritional ratios. Yes!!!! :)
