Good Morning :)

Due to financial issues, I need to stop my JC shipments for a while. I just received my last shipment, so I have about 3 weeks worth of food left, which will get me almost all the way to Christmas.

Any advice regarding store-bought items that you all like? My plan is to stick with the 1500 calories that I am on now. I live alone, so cooking isn't practical all of the time. Any frozen entrees that you all love? Ideas?

Thank you.

Lori,

Financial issues are perfectly understandable these days but I'm sorry you're feeling the crunch so badly right now.

As for food, of course there are alternatives. Just check out Lean Cuisine, Healthy Choice, Smart Ones and Weight Watchers. You can compare nutritional panels so that you're not overdoing it on carbs and sodium (where the biggest difference often is) but you will likely have to experiment some to find the foods you like best.

It's like the Jenny meals. There are some that some of us love and others loathe. So it's going to be a matter or taste and trial and error.

You can do a high fiber cereal for breakfast or have one egg or two egg whites with a slice of whole grain bread.

If you are having the Anytime bars, try the Pria bars (available online, at health food stores and in some groceries). They're tastier and less expensive. Or you can have a piece of ff string cheese or a ff, sf yogurt and a multivitamin.

And, of course, there's a bunch of 100 calorie snacks available in the grocery stores.

Hang in there and keep coming to the boards. Jenny food or not, you're still a part of our "family" and we're still here for you. :)

Don't forget your water, exercise, 2 skim dairies, 2 fruits, 2 veggies, and portion control every day! :)

I am worrying about money, too, and here is what I'm doing to save with JC:

- alternating breakfast between cereal and eggs (either cheerios w/skim milk and a piece of fruit...or kashi go lean w/skim milk & fruit...or 1/4C egg beaters on a WW sandwich thin w/a cup of skim milk or danon Light & Fit yogurt)

- midmorning snack, usually fruit

- JC lunch w/side salad (1T light salad dressing, I love Ken's Asian Sesame)

- afternoon snack, carrots or something like that

- late afternoon snack, I like something salty (JC popcorn is my go-to so I found something called Popchips that I like and are comparable)

- JC dinner w/ fresh green veggies with lots of fresh lemon and black pepper

So I'm only buying the JC lunch/dinner entrees. I've thought about switching to Lean Cuisine/WW/Healthy Choice but at least through all the holidays I want to stick with JC because it makes me get my rear end to the centre to weigh in and see my JCC (who has been very supportive of my money issues BTW).

Maybe at half way I'll switch out either lunch or dinner to one of these less expensive frozen entrees and see how it goes. There is nothing magic about the JC food itself...it is the WAY of eating that makes it work. JC is reminding me of all the obvious common sense things I'd forgotten over the years...which brings me full circle: water, exercise, 2 skim dairies, 2 fruits, 2 veggies, and portion control every day! ^_^

Along with the awesome suggestions above, here is a thread BelugaBabe started with all kinds of ideas for alternatives/jc subs.
