So I'm just wondering what are the odds of a tummy eventually getting back in some kind of shape after a 60 pound weight loss. The weight came off nice and slow, and I really don't care if I ever wear a bikini, but it'd be nice to look in the mirror and not have the saggy skin that makes one appear to have birthed multiples. Can't afford a tummy tuck, so I'm hoping for some words of encouragement that maybe in a few months my 45-year old skin will, if not snap back, at least creep back to wear it once was.....

First of all, congrats on the 60 lbs lost....that is AWESOME!!!!

I'm not sure how long ago it was that you lost the weight, but I have always heard to give it a good year for your skin to snap back. If after a year it hasnt, then it probably wont.:( Sorry, dont know what to tell ya other than surgery, except just be sure you are doing toning exercises during this year to get the most optimal results.

Thanks for the quick reply. I figure it took nearly a year to lose the weight, so I'm not surprised to hear that it might take several months to alter in appearance.
Have a great holiday season! :)

Not that I'm suggesting surgery and I'm about 15+ years older than you are, but I will tell you that if you don't exercise, your tummy won't flatten anymore. But with only losing 60 lbs. (as opposed to hundreds), exercise should help significantly help to tighten up your muscles and eventually tone up your skin.

I'm dealing with the crepey skin on my tummy and arms. :(

True, there is only so much that can be done with exercise alone. I have contemplated Lipo for a while now, but dont know if I would ever do a tummy tuck. Sometimes surgery is the only thing that will rid you of that bulge....unfortunately Posted Image

I don't know about the rest of you but I have already had enough surgery to last me the rest of my life. If I end up with extra skin, which I most certainly will based on former weight loss attempts, I am going to take all that skin as a badge of success. It will go away if it does and not if it doesn't. The real point is that as long as it exists, it will remind me daily of all I have accomplished by losing this weight. Tight skin is what I experienced 41 pounds ago. I'd rather have the looseness. I will be healthier. That is what matters no matter what. If I cannot love me for what I am and what I look like then I am denying what I have accomplished. Surgery will still leave you with scars and then you will be unhappy with that as well. Why not just decide that you love yourself.

Congrats on your weight loss!! I'm 45 as well with oddly enough a 45lb weight loss. Were you exercising during your weight loss?? I bought a cheap eliptical machine when I started my weigh loss journey which I use about every other day for 30 minutes and let me tell you...wow!! It did wonders for trimming and toning the thighs, butt, abdomen and tummy! I didn't think after a C-section 4.5 years ago my tummy had any hope but I was wrong. I also do 100 sit-ups on the exercise ball. Do you do abdomenal exercises? I think you need to look into non-surgical methods to try and tone things up--you can google just about anything!

Just wanted to say thanks to all who replied. I am hoping that the tummy (not to mention the beginings of a 'turkey neck') will perhaps become less noticeable as my body re-adjusts to this size. Honestly, even if I had the $$ for surgury, with 3 little boys I most certainly lack the down-time.

Isn't it funny that once we get to where we thought we wanted to be, we just HAVE to complain about something?
