Pattylynne-how's it going? The trainer still working out? I hope things have been going well for you. Are you still at the college?

TampaJane-glad you like my lipstick idea. It's twofold, not only does it keep me from snacking, it makes me feel better about myself by looking the part. I've found I reapply my gloss or lipstick up to 3 times a day. I have a greeting card that says "Everything is better with a little lipstick". The picture is of a white haired lady applying lipstick in her rearview mirror as the state trooper is approaching her car to give her a ticket. Call me twisted, but I think that's really funny!

Well I've taken a new approach for getting my 5000+ step goal. My office (a hearing center) is inside a department store. I've decided to take a lap around the store about every hour or so. I'm not away from the phone that long (about 5-10 min) and I get close to 500 steps per trip. It breaks up the exercise into managable chunks. We'll see if it pays off at WI time. I know I'm tired at the end of the day--I'm sleeping better.

As far as keeping my hands busy--I've finished one afghan for Christmas and am half done with another. I will be starting a beading project, a Christmas gift for my boss soon. I've pulled some crochet patterns for sweaters off the internet that I plan on trying after the new year, so I can continue to keep my hands busy.

Well I've rambled long enough. More after I have my WI.

:D Hello Fellow Fitness Buddies!

Donna, thank you for starting the thread. I've been rather swamped at work and just could not get to it. Yes I am still at Catholic University and the place is jumping. Its so great to have the students back and watching the leaves change & fall. The trainer is still working my muscles but I am not always as sore afterwards.

Keeping your hands busy is such a great idea and I simply must get back to my crafty side. Use to do cross stitch and found it relaxing. Its all about making the time and space to do it in.

Ok the workouts are going well for me however the eating is not. I think I am stressed and that is leading to the off plan moments. Finally got the remaining Halloween candy out of my home and now it is up to me not to buy anymore junk. As for my nerves I am headed to a women's retreat in Wintergreen Resort in Virginia on Friday morning. The workshops look great and the location is just plain heavenly. In the Blue Ridge mountains with access to their exercise facilities, walking trails and spa. They plan on having three yoga sessions and I am going. So looking forward to this and I want to take the time to just be quiet and have some "Me time"

I may drop you all a line before the weekend but I have alot to do at home today. So everyone have a great Thursday and remember to move your body :D

Hi Ladies,

Thanks for starting the thread this month. Sorry I have been MIA. October was a bit unusual here, we've already had snow twice. I haven't been doing my best without you so my weight has crept up a bit, 137.4lbSo I need to buckle down and get back to work, not to mention stay in touch with you all to keep me on the straight and narrow.

Donna, I like you plan of walking around the store every hour. Some malls have walking programs, might be a nice way to meet some other walkers. They usually have info at the information desk. I may look into it myself this winter. COngrats on how well you have been doing on losing and on starting back with the belly dancing.

Pattylynne, have fun on your retreat it sounds so nice and relaxing. I hope you comeback completely refreshed. The yoga sounds great. Glad your enjoying your new trainer.

The last two days I worked on my front yard putting in more plants, m oving some and put down 2 yards of mulch. At one point I needed to fill trugs with mulch to get between shrubs. I realized each trug weighed about 45lbs, I had 2 of them and thought this is what I lost. After lugging them around the yard I realized I'll be darned if I'm going to gain this weight back. So it's back to behaving and getting the weight back off. Well since I am coloring my hair it's time to go. Hope everyone has a good Fri.

Hi Ladies,

Well I have had a set back, I fell Fri nite, flat on my face when I went to take the dog out. I damaged ribs on my left side and my right knee. I went to the er this morning, couldn't get in to my doctor after they told me to wait till Mon. X-rays came back showing nothing broken, but with the bruising and tenderness a 2 -3 days later they said treat it as though I have broken the ribs. I have a good bit of fluid in and around my knee cap so they gave me an immobilzer because my knee has been wobbly and locks up. I'm suppose to wear it for a week, if it's not better then I move on to an orthopedist. So cross your fingers that I won't need him/her. They said running my race on thanksgiving is out, but possibly I could walk it, but to definitely not count on it. Even if my knee is better it woould be too much trauma for my ribs so soon, and the hilly course may be too much for my knee. I really wanted to get back to doing more running this winter so this is really depressing to me, I sure don't want to end up needing surgery. Now I really have to watch my calories, plus think of new ways to workout. Well yome for a nap, usually don't take them but I haven't been sleeping well and the docot visit wore me out. Take care.

:o Oh Nancy I am so sorry to hear about your fall and injuries and the trip to the ER :( So stressfull and I am sending you a big electronic hug. Definitely be gentle with the knee and ribs and I am keeping my fingers crossed that you will not need surgery.

Well my women's retreat at Wintergreen was quite interesting and enlightening. The main speaker was an energetic young 42 year old from North Carolina who taught some coaching techniques and urged us to step into our future self. There was no talk about the past but a look to the future. She was very much into visualization and I can see the opportunity. I also discovered that I am a water person with a strong sense of earth. The other two elements of wind & fire also have a play in my personality. We also learned about brain training and philosophy. Didn't get to the yoga sessions because I wanted to have some time to chill during the weekend. The retreat was rather packed and I decided to spend my free time in walking about the resort. I had forgotten just how quiet the woods could be and the vistas were spectacular. Then to top off the weekend I had a wonderful facial and a shoulder massage to die for. All in all a good weekend but it left me rather stirred up inside in a good way.

The drama of personal trainers has started again. I think my trainer is going to be able to continue working with me but I have to straighten out a few things at the gym. My year contract of working with a personal trainer should expire by the end of December and I may not continue. Money is tight and I think I have an idea of how I can continue by myself. However I think I may be leaving my current gym and going back to my original gym. Its all about the space to workout in my current gym. They have the equipment but not always the space so I may be going to a new gym. Oh the drama of it all...

Well its a beautiful day outside and I have done my civic duty and voted this morning. I am hoping for a calm & productive day at work with a long walk at lunch. Take care everyone and remember to keep moving :D

Hi Ladies,

Pattylynne, Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend, I would love doing something like this, it sounds like you are not only renewed but that it helped propel you forward. Sorry for the drama at the gym. Maybe you could do something where you have a group training to make it more financially doable. Plus it might give you a support group to have so ou stay on track with working out, not to mention more fun. That or could you do a trainer once a month or every couple months.

Donna, hope all is going well with the steps and belly dancing.

Well I switched dr offices as mine was saying I'd have to wait for an appt. The new drs office got me in to a cancelled appt this morning. They realized that Advil has 0 effect on me and switched me to naprosin. They did an exam on my knee and are fairly certain that I have a torn mcl. They gave me a referral to an ortho and I am seeing them Thurs am, due to another cancellation. Someone is finally looking out for me. Dr didn't understand why the er didn't set me up for to see an orthopedist when I saw themk, not to mention not switching the meds. I like having a dr that feels like they are looking out/fighting for my well being. I also have to be more concious of my breathing, I have an odd little cough going since the fall, which shows my breathing is shallow and can lead to pneumonia. So the 5k on Thanksgiving is completely out of the question. But the dr says we'll work on having me back running this winter, she wants to see me back out there doing races. I'm seeong a sports ortho dr, who by the way is very handsome, oh wait I'm married. Like tv dr mcsteamy/dreamy handsome. haha! So for now if I feel up to it I can stretch the upper part of my body, but my ribs are still sore. But I've been told to keep the immobilizer on and to sit and keep the leg up as much as possible. Well I'll let you know how it goes. Plus I am stealing Donna's idea of doing projects, maybe knitting to keep me from feeling depressed and eating. Plus if they tell me surgery I'm going to think of it as a facelift for my knee, I'll be younger, faster..... $6million woman. We can rebuild her.hahah! Okay time to go get the new meds. Thanks for being there for me.

Hi Ladies--

Nancy--OMG!! (((HUGS))) I can sympathize with you having broken my arm 2 years ago. I know you will be fine, but there sure is a lot of uncertainty until you get there. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers as you face the challenges ahead. You'll get back to your running, but God is saying "Hey, walk awhile.". Have fun with your knitting projects. I've nearly completed my second afghan. My next project is to finish caning some antique chairs I have in time for the holidays. I need the extra seating.

Pattylynne--Sorry to hear about the trainer drama. I'm sure you can work out a plan now for exercise and just pick the brains of those running the gym that you choose. Have you thought about classes instead of a personal trainer? I'm sure you could do a spinning class or advanced yoga and get some pretty fantastic results for yourself.

I'm still belly dancing and taking laps around the department store that my office is in. My challenge is to stop the evening snacking--mostly carbs.

Well, gotta get back to work. Hope you ladies stay well!

Nancy - so sorry to hear about your fall -- glad that you finally got to a doctor that understood the importance and urgency of your recovery - hope you feel better soon and good idea to keep you hands busy instead of snacking.

Donna - WTG for getting in your laps and sticking with your belly dancing

Pattylynn - glad you enjoyed your retreat -- sounds like you are energized --- as for the gym and trainer I am sure you will figure something out.

TampaJane -- hope all is well

As for me I have been snacking more and walking less which we all know leads to weight gain -- so hoping to make some changes and see what I can do before December 16th (my husband's work holiday party) -- need to work on finding the motivation.

Hi Ladies,

Thanks for the support. I went to the ortho dr this morning, they took more xrays some in the craziest positions. They don't think my mcl is torn but the lateral menicus has not been ruled out as being torn. The dr also said I have have a deep bruised knee bone and that, that will take a very long tome to heal, months. He gave me a new brace, on that allows me to bend the knee but holds it side to side. The brace is the same as what football players wear. My concern is that it will make me feel better than it should, so I will need to be mindful not to overdue. The dr said I might be able to walk in the race on Thanksgiving, but not to push it. At this point the new meds a working great but the ribs still hurt. I think I've been pushing my upper body. I did go and get a kit to knit cute mittens and a nice smelling candle. My weight is up and I may be over the 5lb limit but if I am then that will be my excuse to buckle down and go below goal when this is over. I would still like to take some off. The most painful part of the dr visit is that my dr is young and very handsome, so young that he calls me mam. Ouch! lol

Marg, good to hear from you. I am not loving this whole standard time 4:30pm sunsets, makes it hard to go walking. Could you use the treadmills in your building.

Donna, How do you have time to nibble at night? You are like a machine getting all those projects done WOW. That's impressive. I have thought of you remembering that you were laid up when I started. Great job getting the steps in.

Tampajane, Sometimes I think it's harder having relatives in the health and fitness fields allows you to put more pressure on yourself. My DS is a register dietician and she makes me feel so much pressure about my weight that I still haven't told her I've lost it. Just pretend that she's not there or if you can go when she isn't there.

Pattylynne thanks for all your thoughts and prayers.
Alright I may take a quick nap before my DH gets home.
