Posted Image Okay, so I'm starting to get discouraged here. I started at 159 lbs. about six weeks ago and I'm only at 157. I've been eating the food, drinking the water, exercising...and nothing is happening. My first week I lost 2.8 lbs. and then I gained 1.8, then I lost 1, then I gained .8 I expected to be a minimum of 5 lbs. lighter by now.

I feel better with the healthier eating, I have been able to go off my ADD medication and I feel fine. My cellulite, though it's still there, is lessening...but the weight is still there. The pants are still too tight.

Do I have to literally go running uphill every single day to lose a pound?

Obviously I was already only eating about 1200 calories a day, so cutting my calories and spending all this extra money on food doesn't seem to be the answer if I want to lose weight.

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed and frustrated today.

I can do this!!!

I'm sorry you're having such a tough time but is usually a logical reason.

For instance, are you truly sticking to the exact plan? I mean, are you drinking a MINIMUM of a half gallon of water? Are you eating something every 2-3 hours? Are you eating enough non-starchy veggies? Are you eating ONLY JC meals and not "tasting" things you cook for your family? Do you eat your fruit every day? What type of exercise are you doing and how much? Are you sure you haven't had "just a bite" of this and that because it didn't seem like a big deal? Are you still drinking diet soda?

When someone isn't losing weight on this plan, there's usually a reason like you're retaining water from too much sodium somewhere in your diet, you're not exercising enough OR you're exercising too much for the amount of calories you're on.

If you're doing too much exercise on a low-calorie plan, your body will try to hold onto every calorie and ounce of weight. If you're not doing enough exercise, you may not be burning enough calories (although a diet of less than 1,200 calories isn't healthy).

If you are "skipping" food because you're not hungry, you don't feel like eating or whatever, that's also a problem.

If you are doing EVERYTHING you're supposed to be doing, what does your JCC say? If she/he isn't giving you enough help, maybe it's time to switch to a different JCC (most are great but there are some that are mere food order takers and don't offer enough help or advice). So talk to the JC manager at your center.

You said you're off one of your medications and that's great but have you had your thyroid checked? Several of the people on this board discovered they had a thyroid issue.

I know it's terrible to keep trying and spending the money and not seeing results but there has to be a reasonable explanation somewhere.

From your photo, you look young so I'm suspecting that it's not an age problem (which those of us over 40 often have), so there has to be SOME reason for it.

This plan - in fact any 1,200 calorie plan when combined with water and exercise - will HAVE to work assuming your body is working properly.

It's simple chemistry and math.

You will gain a pound of fat for every additional 3,500 calories you consume. Likewise, you will lose a pound of fat for every additional 3,500 you burn off. So something has to be going on because what you're going through doesn't make much sense this early in the program.

It's true that some people hit a plateau but not usually at the beginning of the plan. And, yes, it's not unusual to see a small gain now and then but that's usually a temporary thing that occasionally happens on WI day.

Try to determine what the cause is and let us know what you find out.

Hang in there. We're all here cheering you on. :)

Hmmm... you know the fact that you have gone off your ADD meds may be the issue. My daughter is ADD and every time she has attempted to go off her meds, she gains weight. Honestly... ADD has nothing to do with your weight so why do you want to go off your ADD meds? Going off them is going to make you revert back to your ADD ways.... I don't know what your specific symptoms are, but I live with 2 people that have ADD.... and I ALWAYS know when they are off their meds.. impulsive and procrastination are 2 of the biggies for them. Living with them is so much calmer when they are taking meds.

The reason I went off the meds is because I feel like I'm focusing just as well without them as I was with them...like the balanced diet is helping so much that they weren't necessary anymore. I've had to have blood work every six months to check my liver to make sure the meds aren't damaging my liver - I guess that's a possibility and I've been on them since I was 40 (8 years) so I feel like anytime we can get by without medication it's a good thing. I'm on Adderall which is a methamphetamine - not something I want to be poisoning my body with for the rest of my life. Posted Image

@ Phyllis, I'm probably not being completely perfect on the plan. Posted Image The more I read your post the more I thought about the "little treat" here or there that wouldn't amount to anything...and I probably am not drinking enough water. Before I started this I drank no water - only soda...so I guess in my mind drinking mostly water and a soda here and there was such an improvement it shouldn't be a problem. Probably is a problem though. And, my face looks young, but I'm 48 so I probably do have some of the "getting older" issues, too. I am post menopausal according to my blood work. I had a partial hysterectomy in 1998, leaving my ovaries...but I am starting to have hot flashes here and there now, so maybe it's all catching up with me. Posted Image

Trudging on. Thanks for letting me rant a bit and being there for me. You guys are great!

I've had hot flashes for 10+ years. They are starting to slow down (I'm 62) but they haven't gone completely.

Anyway, if you are doing the diet soda and having a bite here and there and not drinking all of your water, then, what you're basically acting as if you're on "maintenance" as if you've hit your goal. But even then we have to drink the water and closely monitor what we eat.

But you have to get yourself into the "diet' portion of the program so that you can lose the weight first. :)

They are little changes, true, but they will have a big impact on your weight loss.

At the least, you owe it to yourself to give it a try for another couple of weeks and stay STRICTLY on the JC plan. That's the only way you're going to see results. And when you do see the results, it will be so worth it! :)

I'm glad you're being honest with yourself. That's a HUGE hurdle you just crossed. :D

Keep coming to the boards and hanging in there. We're here for you!

I agree Phyllis. We want you to be successful!! We are here for you.

FYI, my daughter is on Adderall as well, so I know it very well. She just started back on it in the summer. One of the things it does is to stop her from impulsively grazing. She doesn't even realize when she is doing it. She has dropped 35 pounds without hardly trying!! I am actually a bit jealous of her success, but I know the reason for her success is the elimination of that grazing AND the fact that she is 24 so still has a high high metabolism.

Hang in there and give it a true attempt without the grazing and with a lot of water. I'll bet you will start to see success!!! :)

That's fantastic! You're losing a little less than an inch a pound!!!! :) Congrats!

Was there anything you did differently this week that you haven't done in past weeks? If so, keep it up because it's obviously working! :)

Thanks! I'm so happy!

I cut out more of my soda - weaning off a 5 can a day habit, drank more water, and participated in a 3 mile breast cancer walk. nice to finally see a loss again. It makes me feel motivated to keep going! :)

Good job Kelly!!

I have struggled with the diet soda habit as well. It DOES make a difference if you can cut it out. I now only allow myself 1 can a day and the rest water with MIO or Crystal Light.

My habit is REGULAR Coke, not diet. Posted Image I used to drink five to six regular cans a day. Now I only buy the little 90 calorie sized cans and I only drink one a day, but I've been skipping every other day now, so it's getting better. Other than that I drink only Milk and Water.

It's a tough one to beat...so glad I never started smoking...I can only imagine how much worse and harder that would be to give up!

I signed up for Yoga on Saturday mornings, too. It's only once a week for the beginners class - but I can take more classes during the week once I advance. My first class is tomorrow. I'm excited and looking forward it.

I can do this!!!

Congrats on your loss! That soda habit can be hard to kick. But take a look at what the calories actually were. Those cans are more than one serving, but the calories are listed per serving, if I'm remembering correctly. Good for you on taking things into control.

I had a soda habit...

You all are inspiring me to cut down to one diet coke a day. When I first started JC I cut down to 2 from 6 or more! But lately 2 has turned into 4!
I have been doing JC for 22 weeks. Yes I am very slow! I am telling myself if I average .5 a week that is good. But reading this has given me a little nudge. I may be getting a bit too complacent.
Thanks all!

Good for you, Mary Kay! :)

Sometimes we have to be honest with ourselves to make sure that we're not just fooling ourselves into thinking that we're doing this "right."

Sounds like you have your head back in the game and I'm sure you'll be rewarded with better results. :)

I used to drink a lot of regular coke and stopping that was very hard at first. Nowadays, I only drink diet soda as a treat and if I try to drink a regualr soda, it tastes horribly sweet. I can't believe I used to put all that sugar in my body  It's amazing how our taste buds change

Coke Zero was the only thing that passed my lips.. well and coffee. My husband used to wonder how my body stayed alive lol. I havent had a coke in 3 weeks and I wish I could take credit for quitting. I started a medication that made the coke taste flat. Just so gross. Imagine drinking a coke left out in the car overnight on a hot August night. I cant think of enough descriptors to explain how gross. And like Pavlov's dog I can't stand the sight of a coke now. I didnt intend for that side effect but its probably the best thing that happened to me. I have always had a hard time losing. First off, about 15 years ago, before it was "cool" I had a gastric bypass and I am living proof that yes your stomach can strech back out. I dont weight close to what I originally weighed but I'm not thin, thats for sure. Then I have hypothryroidism, so thats always fun when your trying to lose weight. And if that wasnt enough I take medication for bipolar that makes it very hard to not gain weight let alone lose weight. I feel like I should write a book. So I will be stalking these forums soaking in all y'alls wisdom, cuz I really needs it lol.
