Fruit with Lunch

This morning I had the breakfast sandwich with two glasses of water and didn't want to eat fruit, milk or cottage cheese. It was enough for me.
At lunch I had the beef lo mein with some baby spinach and dressing, but was still hungry, so I ate my (larger) apple with my meal and considered that my two fruit servings for the day. On other diets I've been on, eating fruit during a meal is discouraged because it is tougher to burn through all the calories. Is it the same way on Jenny? Can I have my fruit at lunch as a sweet treat?
Later I came home and had my Mesquite chicken on a bed of greens and added a laughing cow cheese (an exchange for cottage cheese my JCC consultant said) with a cup of non-fat milk AND non-fat yogurt. Was that too much dairy in one sitting? Must I have everything at the time alotted?
I then had my popcorn at nine p.m. Is that too late? My usual dinner falls between 6-8 so I only had about an hour to digest before I went for the popcorn.
Basically, my question lies in timing and combining foods during certain meals. Any advice or tips would be much appreciated.

Hi Luckyjuls!
You might want to check with your JCC...but, I switch it up quite a bit with my food. I still get in all my foods..but I sometimes eat my Popcorn an hour after my dinner as well..and I keep losing weight every week.
I think it is ok to eat fruit during your meals..because the chicken & tuna salad kits both come with fruit. But,the idea of the program is to keep eating every two to three hours,so you don't get famished and eat everything in sight! LOL
So, I do eat my alloted foods...but I don't always stick to a strict time schedule..as long as you get them in,you are good to go!
Good Luck!!

First welcome to JC and to the boards! We hope you'll come back often. There's lots of us here who have been where you are so perhaps we can help you get down this road a bit easier.
Basically the plan goes like this. You have your breakfast and then 2-3 hours later you eat something (a fruit snack, veggies, a low sodium V-8, etc.), then you have lunch (generally a JC meal with a salad or veggies), then 2-3 hours later a mid-afternoon snack (fruit, a JC snack or veggies), then 2-3 hours later eat your JC dinner and 2-3 hours after that, your evening snack...if you want...as long as you have all of you have all your food in by that time.
Now, having said all of that, to get the BEST results, you should follow the program the way it's laid out having your dairy when you're supposed to and so forth spreading out your food throughout the day so that you will keep your metabolism running at its maximum.
Now, if you don't mind the POSSIBILITY that you MIGHT lose a little slower, TECHNICALLY - making sure you eat SOMETHING every 2-3 hours - yes, you can eat a bit more at one meal rather than another.
Reading your post it sounds more like you had breakfast, lunch, dinner and a late evening snack without eating anything in between your meals. That's where you can possibly run into problems.
In order to keep your metabolism working at its most effective you HAVE to eat in between meals. You shouldn't "store up" your food to eat it only at meal time. So it would be best if you could spread the food out a bit more.
The other ESSENTIAL component to this plan is to make sure that you get in a MINIMUM of a half gallon of water (or Crystal Light, iced tea, water flavored with Mio or other non-calorie sweetener - not a diet drink) every day.
This will help to fill you up and flush out things like sodium out of your body. It also hydrates your skin, helps your organs work optimally, etc.
I can't stress enough how important getting that fluid into you will be.
So, yes, you can have the fruit with lunch but either try to have a smaller piece of fruit with lunch and save one for one of your mid-meal snacks or figure out something else to eat (like a salad or veggies) to help fill you up for your lunch if that's when you're most hungry.
Hopefully this clears things up a bit more for you.
Come to the boards often. We all want to cheer you on!

Hi LuckyJuls, welcome to JC! It sounds like you had an awesome first day... way to go! I'm not an expert but it sounds like you did everything perfectly. I know for a fact that you are correct that the laughing cow cheese can be subbed for cottage cheese because I asked the same thing! What a wonnderful way to incorporate it into your meal!
You do not have to eat everything at the time it says to, as long as you eat everything. I'm sure you know this, but the soupitizers are optional. I dont really like them so I was glad about that!
Way to go drinking so much water with breakfast! Sounds like a great way to start the day!
I don't see anything wrong with what you ate. As far as I can tell you followed the "rules" perfect;y!
