So sorry about the late set up of the thread for October. It has been a real crazy month for me but this morning I finally decided to get my act together and go back to the basics.
Even though the thread has not been active, I have been active during October with my Personal Trainer and on my own. My direction with the personal trainer is more weight training as he has been helping me in developing muscle by lifting weights. I do enjoy working with him because he is very encouraging & patient. The habit of going to the gym twice a week is firmly established for me and now I want to add a third session. However it is difficult in finding the time to fit a third session into my week but with persistance & patience I can do this. Thats my mantra for this week; "I can do this."
So I hope if you have been lurking around the boards waiting for the thread, you will come back and share your October experiences. Take care everyone and have a great Monday!!

Thank you for responding and I too enjoy walking. I've been walking for my health since my teens and found it to be the only exercise I really excell in. As for the gymn membership, I too understand about paying for the gym and not going. Now I enjoy going because I am working with a personal trainer. It really has made the difference for me because there is someone to help me with my program and when I want to quit he urges me onward.
Tonight is a workout night for me and I really need this since I have had a frustrating week at work.

Pattylynne--thanks for starting an October thread even thought the month is almost over. I need to get back to accountability and have started working on a plan. The first part is to even have a plan. I've been coasting for waaaay too long. I'm sure that's the biggest share of my plateau. Soooo, I got out my pedometer and have started tracking my steps each day. I did a baseline week two weeks ago and have made a small goal to improve on it this week--of which I did. This week, another small goal to improve it again.
I found I was getting on average less than 3000 steps per day. Now I do go to dance class once per week and have another dance session with a friend (not a lesson--just for fun) once per week. Well last week my goal was to up the steps to 5000 or more two to three times during the week (I mananged two). Lo, and behold, I lost 1.3 at WI yesterday and I didn't really do much in the way of changing my foods.
This week, I'm going for 3-4 days at 5000+ steps. Again, not worrying too much about changing my food plan. With the added exercise, I found I'm not "on the hunt" for starchy, fatty foods at night as much.
My two other tips that I'm working on is one, wearing lipstick or gloss all day--I don't want to eat it off with snacking. And to keep my hands busy. So I've started crocheting again and working on some Xmas gifts ahead of the season.

I, like Donna, have found that keeping my hands busy is a great help. Love the lipgloss idea!
