Today is my first day on the program. I tried to search the message boards for this answer, but could not find it. I know the plan includes 3 'free but limited' foods each day. Do the fruit servings that are on my food calendar count as 2 of these servings? I'm supposed to have 1 fruit in the morning and 1 fruit in the afternoon according to my food calendar, but do I get 3 additional 'free but limited' foods in addition to this?

Great question! The answer is YES! (thank goodness!) Everything that is on your food calendar for the week should come to 1200 calories per day (or 1500 depending on which plan your on). That means if your day says "Breakfast, milk, fruit. Then anytime bar. Then lunch, salad. Then fruit. Then dinner. Then snack" all of should come close to 1200 calories a day.

Often times you might be under. But either way you can have 3 free but limited foods in addition to this.

From my experience, this has SAVED me and has been one of the main reasons I've had success with JC. I would talk with your JCC about things you can do, and foods that can be added.

For example, I know that 1/2 cup of Fat free, sugar free pudding is considered 2 limited foods. So if I don't add any others to my day, I can have some chocolate pudding at night with my snack. That's something I found worked for me because I really needed help getting those chocolate cravings satisfied.

For now, you might want to try to stick to the diet as closely as possible before you start finding the "loopholes" (that's what I like to call them). However, once you feel comfortable, or feel as though you really need a little extra in the day, speak to your JCC and they might help you find a place to add those little "free but limited" items.

Good luck!

Thank you so much. Everything on the menu adds up to around 1200 calories so I think I am on track and will add in some extra fruit if I feel I need it this week and wait to start with the 'loopholes' :).
