Hi my name is Nathalie and I started October 4th. I wanted to start a topic thread for October newbies since September & August seem to have their own group :)

I finally joined Jenny Craig after trying everything out there, Weight Watchers, Atkins, etc... I feel like JC is the right program for me since I live a very busy lifestyle. Work work work in the big apple! Plus I'm not the greatest cook in the world so often times I found myself eating out for all my meals. Clearly I gained too much weight without even noticing until it was too late and all my clothes were fitting tightly.

I'm determined to reach my goal this time and gain healthier habits. Wish me luck! Hope to hear from other October newbies!

Start weight = 192.4
Week #1 Weight = 187.6 (-4.8 !!!)

Hi Nathalie - I am new this month also, just joined Monday night so this is my second full day on the program. So far, I am loving it! Can't wait for my first weigh in! I too think this is the perfect plan for me because I need the discipline and structure, at least in the beginning, until I can unlearn all of my bad habits. I have spent a lot of time on the website today and there is loads of great information and tips. I wish you the best of luck!

Hi all, I'm Mindy, I'm an October newcomer too. :)

In the interest of full disclosure, this is my 3rd time ~ but last ~ with JC. This time I'm in FOR LIFE--I'm not coming back except to keep myself within 5lb maintenance. :)

I am a stay-at-home-mom with 4 daughters (ages 9, 12, 13, & 15). I'm turning 48 next month, starting at 166lbs, with a goal of 130. I have yo-yo'd over the years in a bad way...gaining 30lbs and losing 20 about 4 times. How stupid is that, 1 step forward, 2 steps back. My first time at Jenny, in 1996, I started the "unimaginable" weight of 140lbs, and here I am 15 years later starting at the "who is THAT in the mirror?!" weight of 166.

I'm not kidding myself, I'm pushing 50. In some ways this relieves the pressure of my early-life average of 115lbs. :) But at the same time I have 4 young daughters and a husband who pretty much looks the same as he did 20 years ago...and I have health AND ego reasons to change myself. 166 simply makes me hate myself - a lot. Not a good plan for a mom & wife (not to mention daughter, sister, and FRIEND!).

I can't wait to get to know you all and cheer each other on!!!

Aww thanks for joining the October Team!

Stephanie, that first weighing is the best feeling. Gives you the motivation to continue! Good luck and keep me posted.

Mindy, never feel bad for returning! Lord knows I tried WW over and over again but I'm giving JC a try and I really LOVE it! Wish I had done it so much earlier in life rather than count points every second of the day! <_<

Let's keep each other motivated for sure!

Best of luck this week guys!

Hello, count me in for the October group. I just joined Tuesday and this is my third day. I can relate to gaining, losing and being busy and hating myself. I feel pretty good because I had a good workout today. I hope I do as well as you gals did the first week. I could use the motivation. This is my second time on JC. I am afraid to even post my weight. How sad is that. I guess then I have to come to terms that's how much I really weigh. I've set a realistic goal and joined the $20 for 20 pounds to start. I stopped JC last year when my mom passed away suddenly and have been pretty depressed since then. I eat okay and exercise, but it must be portion controls and emotions and change. Glad to be part of the Outstanding October group. Thanks for listening. Deb

Deb, I'm so sorry about your mom. Are you having your depression checked? I discovered a year ago that I was suffering from mild depression, and in hindsight I am stunned at how debilitating depression is. It is nearly impossible to get anywhere with depression sucking the life out of you every step of the way. I can't imagine where I would be today if I hadn't found help.

I was hesitant to list my weight here too...but I decided it adds to the accountability factor. 166. There, I said it. It actually feels good to stop hiding it (as if I'm hiding anything walking around in public in my body - lol).

We are going to do this together, ladies! Outstanding October - I love it! :)

Hi All: Mindy, I can relate to your story!! I first inquired about Jenny Craig when I hit 140 lbs also!! At that time, I lost the weight on my own (because I was a full time student and part time worker trying to pay rent!!) and couldn't afford it. Fast forward 16 years (and a husband and two kids) later and I topped the scale at 160 lbs ( I say 160 but it probably was between 160-165). I work full time as a nursing supervisor, and I teach part time at the local university. This is my first week on the program. I love it so far and it fits my lifestyle! I do love to cook and still cook for my family but what I've learned this week is that I am making two veggie dishes for me and the family and then I will alos make theri main dish. My 11 year old LOVED the cauliflower I made last night!! Well, enough rambling. Tomorrow's the first weigh-in. Wish me luck!!

I am also a new October member. This is the first time on JC and so far so good! It's my first week and my weigh in is Monday. It's going to be a great weigh in, I can feel it :) I'm 54 and weighed in over 230 to start. When I realized I was the same size as many of the women on Biggest Loser (at their start weight) - I realized what I really look like. You know how we look in the mirror with rose colored glasses. Something at some point triggered reality and that did it for me. I'm especially concerned about my health right now. My knees are starting to really bother me. I also have been turned down for health insurance because of my weight. These are all realities that I must face and overcome. I have the best attitude this time around in my weight loss efforts. Here's to all of us newbies heading to a healthier and slimmer road to success!

I'm also a new October member. 39 years old, I would love to be at 135 by my 40th birthday. I'm starting at 158, and have lost 3 in the last 12 days. 2 kidlets, my portion sizes have gotton bigger over the years. I'm a middle school math teacher, and very busy during the week. I'm also addicted to burritos! :)

Hi everyone, so glad we're all here! Let's stick with this forum and DO THIS THING together! :) I'm feeling a little discouraged and thinking I won't have any loss at my 2nd weigh-in on Tuesday, because my scale hasn't budged at home. I plan to walk a lot, drink a lot of water, and follow my plan carefully. I'm worried about having friends over for dinner tonight, mostly because I know we will have a few glasses of wine and my guard will go down. I do not want to sabatoge myself!

Hi Everyone!
I'm a new member (again) just restarted today. Even got myself out the door to the gym and sweated off a few calories there.

Its amazing how deeply into denial I was about how heavy I had gotten! But I am much more motivated and ready than I was last round. Hopefully, it will stay this way!

Welcome and happy losing October peep's!

Annie

Welcome to all of the October newbies! We're happy to have you (first time or multiple times returning). :)

Hope you will all come to the boards often. There's lots of us "old timers" that would love to help you on your journey. :)

Come and rant about problems, rave about successes and chime in on the discussions. We're all here to support each other no matter when we came on the journey (or how many times we've had to return.) ;)

Good Morning! So glad this is an active forum, I am in my second week and lost 8lbs the 1st week. I am trudging along, I love not having to make decisions since I'm the one who got me 40 lbs too heavy! I was very surprised when I first started - the portions were so small! I didn't realize how much I was eating. I did JC before, years ago, and I remember having the same impression when first starting. This is really and eye opener! I love the food, good variety. I will be weighing in on Thursday morning so here is to a good healthy day of eating. Happy Monday. Be good to yourselves. Dithy

Hi, I am an October newcomer and first timer with Jenny Craig ( in my 2nd week). I am 47 and my SW was 153.6lbs. After my first WI I lost 2.5Lbs and was happy with that. My goal weight is 128 lbs (I'm 5'5"). I have had success in the past with WW but not this last time (last spring) so I thought I would try Jenny and I just discovered this forum which is very helpful and encouraging. I am a bit worried about my second WI as I don't seem to have lost anything this week. I also tried a more personalized menu this week and surprisingly disliked more of the foods than the first week's planned menu (which I will go back to this week). I am working out 2-3 times a week with cardio and weights plus dog walking every day for 20 min. I know the last 20 lbs are very hard to lose especially at my age. I am looking forward to my weight loss journey and I think this forum will help greatly during discouraging weeks. Thanks to all! Marlene

I thought I had posted here, but I don't know where it went! :)

Anyway, I am an October newbie too - started two weeks ago and am 5.5 lbs down. I'm very happy about that because I have been traveling for work eight days out of that period and this shows me that I can manage to eat out without losing it entirely.

I'm 38 and my goal is to reach my "reality" goal of 175 by my 39th birthday in March (I'm currently at 216.6); it's aggressive but that what I'm working toward. I say reality because I have never been at a normal weight my entire adult life and want to see what 175 looks like and then go from there. Being overweight -- in reality, obese -- my whole life has affected me in ways I can't measure and I'm ready for it to stop being the dominant force in my life. I'm ready to make a lifelong change. I'm finally ready to get this monkey off my back!

Like Nathalie, I'm also in Manhattan and struggle to find the time to do everything I need, but as I told my consultant last night, in the end, I need to decide what is most important.

Looking forward to supporting all of you on your journeys!

Hi everyone - just back from my 2-week weigh-in...down only .4lbs. I suspect this is due to a lighter-weight shirt. I'm a little discouraged but remain determined.

Hi my name is Cecilia and I started October 4th. In the first week I lost 3.4lbs and this second one iīm pretty sure iīm not gonna lose not even 1lb or half of it, iīm feeling hungry all the time, i just moved and hopefully if itīs the stress itīll eventually go off and iīll be able to keep it going... When you star meetting new people it seems to be a rule going on and it is... new people= lunch out or breakfast out, or dinning out so you get to know the new places while eating with new friends, isnīt it? Is not like on the first time iīm talking to these new persons or friends iīm gonna say no thanks iīm on Jenny Craig right?? May be I shouldnīt joined while still moving... donīt know, what do you think??

.4 lbs are .4 lbs youīre not gonna see ever again, be happy that if you didnīt behave all that well you didnīt gain them. Weīre just starting... I began with a diet before JC and I managed to lose some weight but it is difficult so now that iīm on the program... itīs still difficult! =) we just need to keep on going and it doesnīt matter if you lose .1 you are losing and doing the BEST YOU CAN, maybe and hopefully next week youīll do much better
