I have been on the program 6 weeks. I have lost 8 pounds. I wish it was falling off faster but I am happy with my progress. I got on the scale one day and about fell over when I saw the number. I started of 2010 in good shape but knee surgery and rehab found me packing on pounds that have refused to budge. Well they are dropping now. I'm sure that there are millions of women like me that have spent years taking care of everyone else while neglecting ourselves. No More!!! I am looking for women like me for support because its amazing how those around us can be uncomfortable with us changing. My children are supportive and my husband is coming along but what has surprised me is the negativity of friends. Lets stick together and get this weight taken care of!

Hi terrible, why are you calling yourself terrible!!!

My name is Mindy and I an only on week 2 (down 2.4 at my 1st weigh-in), but this is my 3rd time around the Jenny block in 15 years or so...I hope my last! :) I have 4 daughters (9/12/13/15), and I have definitely put myself last for a long time. No more: That strategy has rendered me overweight, unhealthy, and FULL of self-loathing! How on earth can any of this make me a good wife and mom (friend/daughter/sister/etc.!)? So I am finally learning as I push 50 (48 next month) that I need to put myself first sometimes. JC enables me to take care of myself without even having to think about it beyond following my menu checklist, how easy is that. Even with just 1 week of healthier eating I am more energetic and walking the dogs every day, and actually LOOKING FORWARD to eating fresh fruits/veggies/yogurt, where I was eating nothing but leftover carbs from last night's dinner plus 3 or 4 cookies thrown in for fun. I am tired of letting food fill up the emotional holes that...oh gee, that the self-loathing of this excess weight created in the first place! What a chicken/egg.

I'm finally getting it...mama ain't happy, ain't NOBODY happy ;)

Terrible - that's a TERRIBLE name for someone with such a FABULOUS attitude! Please think about changing it. :(

Anyway, welcome to the boards! You've come to the right place and it doesn't matter if you're going to the center or doing JC direct, we're all here on the same journey and to support each other.

Keep up the GREAT work! Many of us lose more slowly than others but the important thing is that we're losing. :)

Stay in touch!

Welcome back to JC, Mindy and to the boards.

There's a bunch of us "returnees" so you're in the right place. :)

Keep in touch. You'll find lots of support here and you'll also find people who've been successful on maintenance and may be able to help you make this time with JC your last time. :)

Hi there!! Terrible is a childhood nickname that referred to how stuborn and focused I could be. I'm using it now to keep my eye on my goal. Nothing is going to side - track me fom getting this weight off. I was so happy to see these posts. I like what mindy posted about if mom isn't happy... no one is. That is so true. My oldest daughter age 17 commented on how good I have been about sticking to the program. It made me feel so good! Maybe they do pay attention after all. I think that this is a good lesson for Mom. We all want to set a good example and taking care of ourselves is the best one.

Ah, ok. I will have a hard time calling you "terrible" though. ;)

So you mentioned negativity from friends. I haven't encountered this, but I'm not talking much with my friends about this at this point - saving all that for you guys here, hahaha. What kinds of things are you hearing?

With "friends" like that...well you know lol. Ditch 'em if they won't get on board with where you are going. You will find nothing but support and encouragment on these forums with friends who are on the same journey or have arrived at their destination. By ditch em I mean emotionally the way they are you. You have great energy and focus which is what makes you threatening to some people in your life. We have all been there in one way or another in this process. Anyone who is or has been here has experienced some very unusual reactions to our choice to make ourselves and our lives better. Use it as fuel to make you stronger. You crossed a courage line that most folks won't. You are living your life to the fullest by making yourself the best you can be!

Thank you for that!!! The old me was always available for volunteer stuff - fund raising, snack bar helper, car pool driver etc... I'm sort of done with it. I will continue to dedicate some of my time to my children's activities but enough is enough. I don't work full time but that does not mean that I am responsible for picking up the slack for everyone else. I know that I sound mean and nasty but I really don't care. You girls are great!

I just got back from the JC center - another 1.8 lbs gone!YEAH!!!! Taking care of me is great! Why did I put it off so long? Probably a million reasons but none of them good. I have become very dedicated to walking my dog about 2 miles a day and spending time with the treadmill. Treadmill can get boring but if I turn it into a multi-media event it is much easier. I read a trashy novel during warm-up, listen to eighties heavy metal dur ing the intervals and country music during cool down and 45 minutes goes by fast. Both my cell and land line can ring off the hook. I love caller ID. The holidays are about a month away - I can't wait for family members to see the new me and check out my new attitude. We all have people in our lives that are negative and get on our nerves. My pre-holiday resoution is to not let them get to me anymore. I'll let you know if it works when the time comes. Meanwhile lets keep that scales moving in the right direction!

That's terrific! Congrats!!!! You have a great attitude and I'm sure the increased dedication to exercise will have you look SPECTACULAR when your family sees you. :) (And even if they don't have anything to say you want to hear, YOU know that you're doing what's right for YOU!) :)

I love clothes and shoes! Who doesn't? Carrying around this extra weight has made me reluctant to do something I have always loved to do which is shop. Argh!!! I don't buy a lot but I love to look in person, online and at cataloges. I have avoided doing that because I was not happy with the size I would have to buy. I found myself saying "If I was thinner..." now I am saying "WHEN I a thinner"... It feels great! I have started keeping track of things I admire. If I win the lottery I'll but it all!!! More realistically what still appeals to me when I hit goal weight I will track down and treat myself to a few items. Its all part of taking care of me!

Two of my favorite things to buy. Hope its not too long before you can treat yourself.

As I am leaning over the dishwasher last night I hear "Mom your butt is smaller..." YES!!!! Sometimes the simplest thing can make your day. I weigh in tomorrow so I will see how well the week went. Any strategies for coping with having to feed a family while sticking to the JC plan? Let me know...

Just weighed in - only half a pound. ARGH!!! Oh well... my butt looks smaller. I didn't
get in as much exercise last week, it showed on the scale. Looking back I took care of other things and not me. I have to remember to keep the focus on taking care of me!

I wouldn't even care if I gained this week if someone told me my butt looked smaller!!! LOL!

I was only down .8 this morning at my WI. :( But since my butt is still the same big ole thing it was yesterday, I'll take the downward movement on the scale however much or little it is! ;) I know I need to burn more calories than I am; otherwise I'm following things pretty well.

Hang in there everyone! :)

What a great NSV (non-scale victory). :)

As for feeding the family and sticking to the plan several people basically cook the same thing for their family that they're eating. For instance, if you're having fish and chips, serve a similar meal to your family. If they're having pizza, you have a JC pizza. That way you don't feel separate from your family and you won't notice that they're getting to eat "something special" and you have only your JC meal because you're all eating basically the same thing! :)
