I am 69. Joined Jenny about a year ago and have had great success. I do need a buddy system. I am going through a phase and eating things I know I should not be eating. I think it is about being bored and not having anyone to share with. Is anyone else going through or gone through this phase?

Uh, gee, let me see. Eating from boredom. Hmmmm. Uh, yeah! Been there, done that! :)

Well if you're looking for a supportive group, you've come to the right place.

I'm 62 and this is my second time back at JC. I lost the weight, kept it off for a couple of years, started to gain it back and when I went 10 lbs. over goal, I ran back because I didn't want to have to try to lose that 45 lbs. (maybe more if I didn't stop myself) again.

So come to the boards, join the discussions, tell us when you're feeling like you're out of control, ask questions. We're a big crazy dysFUNctional family. :)

Looking forward to being there for you whenever you need us. We've all been on the journey and/or are at different points along the way. So you'll get lots of advice and support.

Oh, and when you're bored or you think you're about to dive into something you shouldn't, set a timer for 30 minutes or 60 minutes and then go do something. Read a book, come to the boards, call a friend, start a project, clean a drawer, write in a journal - whatever it is that you need to distract yourself. Then, I bet, when the timer goes off, the "urge" will have passed or at least will be manageable enough for you to make a "rational" decision about what you should and shouldn't be eating.

And remember there are a bunch of "free" foods if you really feel the need to stuff your face but it would be better to just get that behavior out of your head because it's too easy to say, "Well, I don't have any veggies so I guess I can have this cookie." Right? We've ALL been there and you don't want to go there.

You can do it and we'll try to help you as much as possible. :)

Hi Betty, I am 65 and today is my first day on Jenny Craig. I've been on JC before and was successful - recently I've let my weight get the best of me (and I swore I wouldn't do that!) I have about 40 lbs to loose and I've surrendered to JC. I'm letting her do it! I am sick of trying all these "new weight loss" gimmicks! So here I am if you want a chat buddy. I need your advice and maybe I can cure your boredom! Were you hungry when you first went on the plan? How much can I figure I will loose in the first week? What can I put into the "small tossed salad"? I will check tomorrow morning ...... Have a good day, Dithy

Dithy,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!

I'm there with you! When I lost the weight I promised myself I wouldn't gain it back but I started to slide and ran back to JC.

As for your tossed salad, put in any type of non-starch veggie you like. Mixed lettuces, spinach, carrots, tomatoes, sugar snap peas, onions, green beans, sweet peppers - your produce department awaits for you to come up with tasty selections.

And while they suggest a salad, if you prefer hot veggies, by all means have those. I'll often make a larger batch when I cook just so that I can have extra for lunch or snacks during the week.

Your first week loss is going to be depend on how much you have to lose, yes, our ages factor into it, how much water weight, etc. It can be anything from 2-5 lbs. but, again, most of that is water.

Once you're on the plan, depending on your activity (exercise), the amount of water you drink, how well you've stuck to the plan, etc. you will lose anything from a few ounces to a few pounds. The promotional material says that ONE AVERAGE the weight loss is 1-2 lbs. a week.

Now, some weeks I've lost considerably over a pound and other weeks I've lose only a couple of ounces. Either way, that's fine. I'm in this for the long haul and as long as I'm not seeing a gain from anything besides water weight, then I'm okay with that.

You said you had been on the plan before so you know how this works. It will be a bit different this time around (yeah, the older we get, the slower we lose) but won't it be nicer to see a figure that's in the "loss" category rather than the "gain" category? :)

Good luck! We'll all be here to cheer you on! :)

Thanks Phyllis for your advice, it hit the nail on the head. It's my first day and I was hungry between lunch and dinner, I forgot to bring my fruit, also while working I wanted to stop a couple of times to shove something in my mouth! That was surprising to me because I did not consider myself "a nibbler". I remember when I first went on JC much earlier in my life the one thing I was surprised about was how much I wanted to nibble, so I already have learned something about bad habits. The food was tasty, the anytime bars are delicious and I think I can do this. At one point in the day, I felt sorry for myself, yea, I had to give up food, my favorite thing. I guess this is a form of withdrawal! Who figures....Thanks again and one day down and a lifetime to go! Dithy

Dithy, it's not that you're giving up food it is just that you're developing a new relationship with different types of food - healthier food. And I'm surprised at how good the pasta dishes are because I come from a long like of Italian cooks and we're VERY picky about our macaroni (what we called pasta before pasta became the preferred name - LOL).

We're unlike other addicts. We can't just give up drugs, alcohol, cigarettes or other addictions because we HAVE to eat. We just have to be more selective about it. And fortunately, the JC food is very good.

If I had to live on Lean Cuisine or Healthy Choice or one of those types of frozen foods, I don't think I could do it. The taste just isn't there.

So hang in there. You have the right attitude and that's a major plus as you go through this. :)

Hello, just ending my third day and feeling hungry. I realize why I couldn't loose weight before "I ate too much!" It is getting easier - my goal is to get into my sexier cloths (12)by Christmas, if not a 12 maybe my sexier 14s. What are the free foods..I think I need them. Also soupizers, didn't find them in my package. I find chewing gum satisfies my cravings - funny there are sooo many flavors now! Thursday is first weigh in - seems like it is so far away. Hanging in there, Dithy

Dithy, don't worry, your body will get used to the smaller portions sooner than you think.

As for the free foods, as I mentioned before, it's basically any non-starchy vegetable.

Try to stay away from pickles. Although they're a free food they're so loaded with sodium that unless you counteract them, you might be disappointed with your weight loss due to water retention.

Also, make sure you drink, drink, drink. It will also help to fill your tummy. Water is best but there's also Crystal Light (5 calories a glass) or I just learned of a water enhancer called Mio that apparently comes in a variety of flavors.

There's also flavored water - try several brands - it took me a while to find ones I liked. Add lemon or lime to your water which also will give it flavor and act as a natural diuretic.

All of this is assuming that you're not normally a plain water drinker. If you are, all the better. :)

Let us know how it goes and come to the boards often. We're all here to support each other. :)

I feel fantastic! Every morning when I get up I feel positive and that I am truely on my way to recovering from my "letting it all go" life style! I do still get hungry - tempted last night to grab a "anytime bar" but I didn't...thank you Jenny Craig. Are carrots fee food? They are good to carry around in my bag but I think they contain too much sugar. Oh, thanks Phyllis for filling me in on the free foods and your encouragement. It is greatly appreciated. Well off to eat breakfast. Here's to another positive day! Dithy

I'm grateful to be reading about people who are addicted to food. At almost 70 I can't believe I am still struggling with my relationship with food. I need to lose 50 lbs to be healthy I started the program a couple of months ago, but have a million excuses for going off. Away for two weeks when I just started, so could bring only limited foods with me, too many "big family dinners", had to do some entertaining......and the list goes on. I am stuck. I have some good days but then I revert to my old eating habits. If I give up right now I'm in big trouble. Reading your posts helped for today so thank you for being there. Wishing you a good day.
