I started the JC program on 6/15/11 with a goal to lose 50 lbs. As of 9/27/11 I've only lost 20 lbs. Are any of you experiencing a slow weight loss? I thought it would go much faster than this. Especially since I workout 1.5 hrs. 5 - 6 times a week. Any suggestions on how to lose 2 - 3 lbs a week would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Diamond!

Welcome to the boards!

Well, we've had this discussion just recently with someone else that describes something similar to what you're experiencing.

If you're exercising that much how many calories are you on? If you're only doing 1,200 calories like most of it, it's VERY possible that you're not getting enough calories. Have you discussed your exercise program and your weight loss with your JCC?

Many people have upped their calorie intake when they're doing that much exercise to 1,500 calories and that might be something you need to do. Your body may be resisting and going into starvation mode because you're expending so many calories during exercise. So talk to your JCC about that.

Also, ON AVERAGE, the weight loss is 1-2 lbs. a week. So amping it up to 2-3 lbs. is probably not reasonable - or desired. I know, I know, we all want to lose the weight fast, fast, fast but in reality, a slower weight loss (1-2 lbs a week) is the desired rate so that your body adjusts to it.

From my calculations, you're losing about a pound or slightly more a week, so you're perfectly on schedule.

There are lots of diets out there that will give you quicker weight loss but the problem with the vast majority of them is that people can't keep the weight off. They generally not only gain back whatever they lose when they go off the plan, they also put more on because they haven't really learned how to have a proper relationship with a HEALTHY diet (portion control, the right combination of carbs, protein, veggies, dairy, etc.).

I also don't know how old you are but the older we get, the more difficult it is to lose.

So talk to your JCC and/or you have a couple of choices. Drop the amount of exercise you're doing (30 minutes a day 3-4 times a week) is generally all that's necessary or increase your calories to 1,500 calories a day to see if that helps speed things up or just accept that your body is most comfortable losing about a pound a week.

Remember, you didn't gain that extra 50 lbs. overnight so don't expect to lose it quickly. Yes, it is easier to put on the pounds than it is to take them off, but you ARE taking them off. You're almost halfway to goal, so congrats! :)

Hope that eases your mind a bit. :)
