45 year old Newbie needs support :)

I don't feel "old" but my body sure acts like it! Can anyone else relate?
Also, since I got "older," I have been increasingly lactose intolerant so I am having a difficult time with all the yogurt (I don't bother with the milk at all).
Any suggestions on what to substitute for yogurt? I know I can have egg whites but when yogurt and fruit is your snack, egg whites don't really go LOL!
Any ideas, advice and support is appreciated!!

I don't have a problem with dairy other than I really don't like it so I take a calcium supplement and my JCC said that's fine.

You also can count milk that you put into cereal and coffee if that helps get your dairy in. And the other thing, after 40, you probably should be taking a calcium pill too. (Several of my doctors mentioned that to me over the years and I've been doing it and so far so good.)
In any case, welcome to JC! It's really a great program and it's one that you can live with for life...IF you learn the lesson about portion control, getting enough protein, calcium, fiber and carbs in your diet in the right portions.
Come to the boards often. We'd love to know how you're doing.

JM - thank you so much for your kind reply. Yeah, I have every symptom of peri or pre-menopause but my hormone levels are "normal"... still, I do the project cream and that seems to help.
I am on Day 5 now and doing MUCH better! Turns out, it wasn't the dairy after all - it was Asperteme! I was drinking a lot of Wyler's sugar free mixes (the grape is insanely good!) and running to the bathroom (not in a good way) a lot. I finally figured out the relationship when I Googled "Asperteme" - bad stuff.
Anyway, I will check out your site - thanks!!!

HI Phyllis! Thanks for writing me back. For some reason, I am not getting notified of replies so I haven't been on the Boards. I am very grateful for the advice. My JC advisor told me the same thing about the lean meat.
As it turns out, though, it wasn't the dairy I was "rejecting," it was the Asperteme in the drink mixes I bought! I mean, dairy isn't really my "friend," but yogurt and aged l/f cheeses (like Alpine Lace Swiss) also work.
Yes, my mom has osteoperosis so she has been "on" my sister and me to take Calcium for a few years, and I have been pretty loyal to them
I really, truly appreciate you writing back and all the support on this site! It is very gratifying to come on here when I am feeling alone - esp if my stomach is growling! LOL
I am doing much better now (GI-wise) and down 5 pounds. I also had blood sugar drops that left me dizzy and weak for the first couple days but my JC consultant told me to break my food up so I am eating every 2 hours and that is working! I actually took at 30 minute "power walk" today and I haven't done that in a couple months!
Yeay!
Thanks again,
Kim

Glad to hear that you're feeling better and sorry that you're having a reaction to aspartame.
That's rough especially since it's in so many of the JC and other no-cal/lo-cal desserts and diet drinks.
You said you liked the grape soda. You might want to see if you can find flavored waters. We get Crystal Bay white grape water. It's naturally carbonated, no aspartame and it tastes great! (There are lots of other companies that make similar flavored waters so you might want to try several to find one you like.)
Keep up the great work on the plan!
