Thanks Dijarm, you are one of the many that have been my inspiration. Also planning a 10K in May and working up to a HM in October. Running is my planned Jenny Craig maintenance strategy.

Good luck, Jen! I'm also running my first 5k soon - 3 weeks away for me. I still can't run a 5k straight through, but I think I'm going to start taking the advice here, slow it down and see if I can't run longer that way. I can't decide which is harder for me to deal with - when I start getting really out of breath, or when the impact from running starts to affect my hips and knees. So I sometimes try to go faster so I can 'get it over with' - ha!

So far all of my running has also been on a treadmill - the weather just hasn't cooperated to let me run outside yet. Soon, I hope - I'd like to run outside at least once before I do it in the 5K! I have a Kindle Fire, and I stream TV shows through it while I run. Working my way through Season 1 of Sons of Anarchy right now - I find that an episode is just about perfect to get me through the run and the post-run stretch. It's also just distracting enough to keep me from paying too much attention to what I'm doing. :)

It really does get better Jen M. - honestly! Some of the aches and pains will disappear as your body gets used to it - keep up with your squats and lunges to strengthen, plus stretching post-workout. I have a playlist that helps me pull through. My DH loves watching the tube while on the treadmill, but it doesn't work for me - feels like it is sucking all of the energy from my body. Zombie-trance  Whatever works - use it! So nice to talk with fellow runners - I'm sure my family and my JC consultant get tired of me go on and on and on about it.
