Hello everyone,

I decided to try Jenny Craig last week. I've tried SO many diet plans ( weight watchers, nutrisystem, low carb etc, etc) I feel really frustrated because I let myself be this big. I got married almost 6 months ago and I gain about 30lbs in this 6 months! My self confidence is lower, my energy level it's really bad and my cloths doen't fit as it used to or some they don't even fit :( . My husband and I are trying to get pregnant, and the doctor told me that I need to lose 40lbs if we want to have a baby and not have any health issues. I was dignose with liver problems, but they will go away if I can lose the extra weight I have. Total weight I'm supposed to lose it's 60lbs.

I started Jenny last Wednesday with the diet plan and so far it's being really good. For some reason, I've been following the diet to the T and I lost 6lbs in 3 days. BUT in the past 2 days I gain 2lbs. I don't know if I gain water weight or what happened. It was kind of discuraging because i have not eaten anything outside of my meal plans. I feel really down right now and I don't know what do do  Can anyone suggest anything, help? PLEASE!

Cosset, I haven't been in my 20s for a few - ahem - decades - LOL - but there are lots of us "older" and perhaps "wiser" ladies who would love to help support you (and some younger ones too).

The first thing you have to get over is looking at the scale. Your weight is going to vary wildly. I can go up and down four lbs. in a day!

It can be anything from retaining water to not having had a recent bowel movement. So don't judge your success by constantly looking at the scale. It will often discourage you and you don't want that. Just stick to the plan, drink a TON of water (or sugar-free drinks like Crystal Light - not diet soda) and you'll flush all the toxins from your body, it will help fill you up and flush out the fat.

Listen, I'm serious about the scale thing. I once got on a two hour plane ride and "allegedly" "gained" four pounds from the start of the trip to the end of the trip. Does that make sense? Of course not. I mean who is going to gain four lbs. from airplane food! LOL

Anyway, the point is, if you only weigh yourself when you go to the Center then you won't go crazy from the ups and down that happen to all of us all day, every day.

And if you can't resist the scale, then at least don't put too much stock in what the number says. It's only a number.

And even if you stick to the plan to the letter and one week you see the scale go up or not move much, don't let that drive you crazy. It will likely even out the following week.

Just keep focused on the fact that you want to get healthier and you and your groom want to have a baby. That should be all the motivation that you need. :)

Come to the boards often. We'd love to hear your progress, answer questions or just have you rant or rave over your weigh-in. :)

Welcome to JC!!!!

Thank you for the fast response! I'm still getting used to this website and I have find this place comforting and helpful. I hope I can stay in touch with others and not get discourage about my progress.

This is one of the hardest things I'm doing right now, stay focus and cooking meals for my husband. I know I can do it, because he is very supportive. I am blessed to have him as my partner in my life. I want to do this and this time around I'm determined. One thing that helps out a lot is that the food tastes great! I love all my meals so far and it's being teaching me about portions.

This experience so far has been an eye opener!

Are there any tools or chat rooms that you would suggest for me?

Thanks,

Cossett

Cossett, it's great that you have a supportive husband. That will make things so much easier for you. I'm lucky that way too. :)

While JC does have chat rooms, to be honest, there aren't many people that go into them very often but the boards are very active.

When you have questions, you can always go to your JCC or ask one of us. We're an opinionated group. ;) So chances are you're going to get a lot of advice from people and, as with anything else, use what you think will be helpful to you. For the most part, we all tend to agree on the major things.

Some people are more rigid about the program than others and some of us find that a certain amount of flexibility is necessary to stick with the plan over the long haul.

Understand that on average you'll lose 1-2 lbs. a week. You'll see your biggest loss in the first week or two. The more exercise you get, the more calories you'll burn.

Drink, drink, drink and drink. That's probably the most difficult thing for many of us and also make sure that you eat every 2-3 hours.

If you know you're going to be going out (going out with friends, have some special occasion coming out where you'll be dining out, etc.) and you know it in advance, tell your JCC so that you two can come up with a plan.

If it's a last-minute thing, try to stick with things like grilled chicken or fish, a little bit of some type of carb and tons of veggies. Basically at a restaurant, I'll ask for a "to-go" container and put one-half to three-quarters of my meal in it because restaurant portions are so huge. Then either my husband gets to eat it or I stretch out the remainder over several meals. I find that if I don't see it on my plate, I'm less likely to misjudge the size of the portions which you have probably come to realize are fairly small in the carb and protein area.

You can volumize your foods with veggies and if boredom starts to set in, experiment with different ways to cook things, add "free" stuff like salsa or limited amounts like a tbs. of fat-free sour cream. Spices will make a world of difference with lots of food because many people (especially me) tend to find the food a little on the bland side. But spicing it up is an easy way to make food taste even better.

Come to the boards and post often. You might find more people checking the GENERAL boards rather than the geographical area or age-specific boards. So that will result in you getting a wider range of people responding. And answer posts. The funny thing about that is that sometimes as you're trying to help someone else, you'll have revelations about your own life.

You can use the SEARCH option at the top of the page to find out something specific or just have fun looking through all of the posts.

The biggest thing to remember is that you're not alone on your journey. There are so many of us doing it with you or who have successfully completed their trip.

Looking forward to hearing about your successes! :)

Welcome Cossett! My name is Molly, and I just joined as well, and I am also a newlywed! I got married July 17 of this year. I have also tried weight watchers before when I was in high school, and it worked for me for awhile and I was down to my ideal weight of 140 lbs, and then I became severely depressed, and gained back all the weight and then some due to that plus all the different medicines I had to go on, and it's been continuing ever since! So, I've been thinking of trying JC for awhile, but what really got me motivated was 1) looking at my wedding pictures and not liking how I looked, 2) like you, we want to have kids, so I need to lose weight before getting preggers, and 3) my husband has type 2 diabetes and I was on the verge of getting it myself.

I've been on JC for about 4 weeks and have lost 8 pounds so far. That's awesome that you lost so much weight, I'm sure what you gained back was water weight and will go away quickly. Not to worry. Congrats again and look forward to chatting with you! :D
