OK, my JCC suggested I get some wrist weights to help tone my upper arms while I work. I work on computers all day and am wondering if I wear the weights while I work whether it will really help tone my upper arms?

Anyone have any experience with these?

Here's an article I found on Livestrong.com:

http://www.livestron...ghts-dangerous/

It doesn't say you can or can't do it, but it gives you some pros and cons :)

Personally I don't use them, I do a full body routine 3-4x a week and use a heavier weight (8-10lbs) to complete my workout. That said, no harm in trying I guess and if you feel pain/discomfort you can just stop using them.

I do! My JCC recommended that I wear 2 lb. wrist weights when I do my walking, so I bought some at a discount store which were very good ones which strap on the wrists with Velcro. I was swinging my arms at my sides as usual as I walked and got an awful shoulder pain in both shoulders. So, then she said to walk with my elbows bent, and to not swing my arms at all as I walked. At first this seemed to really be great... I had no more pain and was losing weight a little bit faster, too. Then, the pain came back in one shoulder blade. Which signaled to me that I had better not use them anymore. I don't want to injure myself and possibly have to have surgery one day due to damaging my shoulder blade, you know. So, I quit using them and I really find my walking is so much easier and pleasant without those things on!!!!!! -People always stared at me and offered words of pity over my "double injury", too, as they figured I was wearing something orthopedic!!!!!! -They were black and bright lime green and I always felt like I looked like the "Incredible Hulk" when I wore them, too, or like I was about to punch someone out!!! I wish I could let you try them or give them to you!!!!!!!! I do not want them anymore. I believe I tried them for 2 1/2 months. I would not recommend them to anyone for obvious reasons. -My shoulder pain completely cleared up when I stopped using them and there has been no more problems with my shoulder, thank goodness!!!:)

Thanks!! That is the kind of feedback I am looking for. Do you think that 1 pound weights would have been better? The reading I have done with the links posted above indicate that 1 pound weights are better than 2 pound just for the reasons you are pointing out here. I am just losing so slowly... .2 - .8 per week and am trying to figure out a way to increase the calorie burn for what I am able to do. Maybe I'll try it with 1 pounders for a week and see what happens. what do you think?
