Antiquity and the Nestle Corporation

I am a very loyal JCer at home client. I've been on program since October/10 and have had great success in losing 81lbs and I'm 4lbs away from goal. However, mingled amongst the joy of weight loss has been somewhat mixed feelings about the program and the extent to which the program is set up to foster dependence on the food and the lack of investment in the supports that a multi-billion dollar company like Nestle should be able to manage. Specifically, since October 2010, I have had issues with respect to the computers and servers that assist the consultants with providing me with the best service (e.g. email down for a week?). Surely a company such as Nestle should be able to invest funds into a better call centre point of purchase software/server system? However, I digress on this issue and now turn my attention to the food dependence issue. As I get closer to goal and maintenance, I have come to realize that there seems to be very little, if no, supports other than a maintenance book with complicated exchange calculations provided for maintenance. I think it is quite remise of Nestle to expect the consultants to supplement the "book" information as to be quite frank, I've basically had to figure that out for myself. To be even more frank, I have had to supplement Jenny Craig with another weight loss program, that out of respect to JC, I will not mention. Why have I chosen to supplement the JC program, well, there seems to be a greater investement in teaching people how to eat 'real' food while trying to figure out the balance for losing and maintaining people's weight. I am extremely satisfied with the outcomes I have experienced as a result of being a JC client; however, I think the Nestle corporation needs to examine or review the program with respect to supporting and transition clients into maintenance. Some suggestions that I may have with respect to improving the transition to maintenance might be a better web site with an exchange calculator and food tracker, maintenance foods that could be purchased from the centres no matter whether you are an at home or centre client, upgrades in your call centre systems, and increased supports to your consultants to avoid the high turnover in staff that you appear to have as I have had 4 consultants in 11 months. Thank you and I would be happy to discuss this further if you would like to contact me directly.

Amen to everything you said!
My center Has a "new" computer system. It is soooo slow and frequently freezes. I feel horrible that they have to deal with it all day. I work with the "new" computer system for a Fortune 100 that seems to have been programmed by JC's developers. I confronted my company's tech team on it last week, just to be told that it takes money to fix things like that. I guess you and I don't have our priorities straight...It sounds like you believe, and I know I believe, there should be an investment in the ability to perform basic jobs functions. The JCC sales staff have my utmost respect for still being pleasant at closing time.
As you can see, I've been a member since 2007. I do great until it comes time to start transitioning to real world food. I fail every time. Maybe when I get to that point again, I will join Weight Watchers, too. It seems that a compamy that could combine both programs would give them a run for their money.
Best wishes to you!

It may be the fault of your JCC who isn't doing her job. It's hard to say.
But if you think WW is going to be easier, think again! Counting poins is WAAAAAY more difficult than JC and maintenance ever will be.
I have a couple of suggestions for you.
When you have your JC meal, dump it out of the container and put it on a plate. It's AMAZING how much that single change will make to your ability to visualize "normal" portions.
When I'm dining out, I'll immediately ask for a "to go" container when the food is delivered so that I can take two-thirds to three-quarters of the meal and put it into the box so that I'm not tempted to overeat. (If I wait until I "think" I've eaten the right quantity, then I usually screw up.) So by having that mental picture of what a JC portion looks like on my plate always helps me when dealing with restaurant portions.
I have even had pasta out using this method although lean meats and fish is more likely a better choice. But it can be done even at your favorite Italian, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, etc. restaurants.
As you are approaching maintenance they WANT you to start weaning yourself from JC food. They want to to transition from a few MOMO's a week to see how you do and then do DOMO a couple of days a week to see if you're still able to lose.
Then, if you're not, you'll review what you ate and when and see where you may have made some questionable choices.
It's a process. It takes time and also YOUR determination and observation to make it work for you.
If you've been doing this for a while, you should be able to EASILY visualize the ratio of protein to carbs to vegetables. All you have to do is pay attention.
As for the computer problems, that is something I'll agree with you on. But you know what? Even before Nestle took over JC, they had computer problems. It's more frustrating to the JCC than it is to us because they have to work around it all day. So don't use that as an excuse. At best, it's an inconvenience.
I'm not sure what you mean that you're "supplementing" another program to the JC one. The only thing you should be adding to your food is veggies, dairy and fruit.
If you mean you're SUBSTITUTING (rather than supplementing) other so-called "diet" food, then it's up to you to check the entire nutritional panel to check for things like fat and sodium and not just calories to make sure that they are comparable. (I know some people literally cut out the nutritional panels from JC meals and carry them with them when they shop so they can do side-by-side comparisons.)
Jenny Craig is a good program but what makes it a GREAT program is that the client is expected to do some of the work and really study what we're dong. We're changing a lifetime of eating habits and it's up to US to study and LEARN how to make the plan work for us.
If you took a class and you didn't do your homework and only half paid attention in class and then got a poor grade or failed, would you automatically blame the teacher? Or would you be honest enough to admit that at least some of the "blame" belongs to you?
JC is like all things. You will get out of it what you put into it.
So how much of the work (besides eating) are you willing to do?

Maintenance instructions need to be a higher priority (or do they, from a business point of view?). It's not hard on paper, but support is important. My counselor is excellent, very helpful and supportive, and I'm only two weeks into (this round of) maintenance. I plan to stay with regular visits for a year.
But already, I'm finding my mind playing bad games (and I know, after gaining and losing weight for 50+ years that you can't stop when you reach your goal) and it's difficult to stay on plan - psychologically.
