Everyone must be pretty busy or taking a break if I'm the one starting a thread for the month on AUG 8! I saw that Marg's last post was July 24.
I do hope everyone is well and healthy. I've been having some weight loss success and am almost back down to where I was when my plateau started--just over 200 lbs.
My new job is going well and is allowing me to afford more JC foods than I was able to before. It's the kick-start I needed. At least I know what it will take to maintain, once I get there.
I have a new JCC, as mine quit to go to grad school to become a dentist. I'm happy for her, but sad for me. However, I'm with an experienced JCC instead of getting somebody new. She's agreed to "kick my amply fanny" so that I stay on track. Melissa has also been on the program herself, which helps because she's been there.
Hope to hear from some of you soon!
Donna

I found out last Friday that my Personal Trainer is leaving the gym I currently use. She isn't leaving LA Fitness but just moving to a different location. Of course I was bummed but then I took charge and lined up a new trainer so I am booked with the two trainers for the remainder of August. I really do like him and he gave me new motivation to work on my physical fitness. So in an effort to work off my body fat, I am starting a running program with a renewed dedication to my eating plan and my MM band so that I reach my goal weight.
Its been a long hot summer and I am looking forward to the fall. Take care everyone and keep moving!!

I'm still here!! As I started to write this I got a good kick in the butt. Kathie Lee and Hoda had a great segment on a man with one leg who wrote a book 'Who Said I Can't' his last name is Joffery. He is hoping to have his own show. I beleive he also has or has had cancer. Nothing stops this man. He skis, sails, swims you name it. I need some of that mindset.
Donna, glad to see things are going better for you. Sounds like your new JCC is a big help. Plus isn't it nice when the job stress is self imposed because you want to do a great job rather than avoid the conflicts and drama. Puts your mind in such a better place. You can do anything now.
Pattylynn, I think the new trainer could be a good change, men have a way of keeping you more accountable when it comes to working out. Does your gym have a running club or is there one you could join? I so reccomend finding a group. I need to find a group that runs during the week. I think it will make the process more fun. Thanks for the encouragement on the FL run.
Well, I did my birthday race and was a tad slower than the last one, but it was in the high 80's. I have to say though I highly reccomend running a race on your birthday, especially when you turn 55. I do think I'll join the team in training team and start doing some races and fundraising for them. I already had one friend with stage 4 lymphoma now I have found out another has it and is worse. Both are former coworkers in horticulture, I think it my in part be to the chemicals we are exposed to on a regular basis. It's a scary thought since most of my friends are in the same situation. I also took out all my shrubs infront of my house and my DH helped, did, take out the rootballs. We both felt 108 and this was when it was really hot. I have started doing once a month visits to JC. So far so good.
Hope all is well with everyone else. Need to take the dog for a walk it is to die for gorgeous here today. Yipee!!! take care

Nancy--you're going to run 26+ miles? You go, babe! I can't even imagine walking that far...
Pattylynne--change is good, that's what we are all about. Hopefully your new trainer will help you and with that your mental demons will be chased away.
Not only have I started a new job--which is great by the way--I've had to deal with some demons of my own. But I've forging through and I'm almost back to where I was--just short of one-derland.
I've re-connected a friendship with a former boss who also has a weight issue. He said I'm his new inspiration to lose weight and before he goes back to WW, he wants to conquer cutting out all the junk food snacking he does. I'm cheering his efforts and showing him "it's about progress, not perfection". Since men lose weight so much easier than women, he'll probably drop 10-15 with that habit change alone.
He has absolutely no support from his DW--as a matter of fact, she rags at him at every meal and each time he goes to the kitchen. One time he was just feeding the dog! Sounds like a real piece of work--thank goodness I've never met her. I think I'd end up decking her for being so hurtful to someone she's supposed to love.
Well, lunch is over. I'm sure I'll be posting more often as my job is kinda slow on Tues. and Thurs. Have a great day all!

Yesterday afternoon my DH came home sick, thought lower gi problem. He got sicker and sicker and finally started screaming in pain, I rushed him to the er. They ruled out appedicitis and then cat scan showed possible that his intestine had twisted or flipped over. So the did emergency exploratory surgery at 2:00am. When they got in they realized he had a perforated appendix and it was pressing on the bowel making him sick and adding to the pain. So this is much better than what they were fearing but still not great. He'll be in the hospital until Tues or Wed. What a scary, scary night this was. My eating has not been great and since I haven't slept yet I can't completely tell you what I remember eating. Came home quick to water the new Plants and let the dog out again. Oh and it's a half marathon not the full one, yet, someday. Actually feels like I just did the full one, hahaha. Take care.

My DH is doing a lot better still lots and lots of pain. The surgeon gave him a 6" incision in anticipation of what they thought they needed to do. Ouch! But we are so blessed that they didn't find what they thought they really thought it looked like, a twisted intestine with a large mass. Instead it was the burst appendix pushing hard on his colon and pushing the intestine around to look twisted. Fhhhew! We sure got by that one. You could tell all the doctors were so happy that it was JUST the burst appendix. They had me completely prepared for resections of intestine and bowel and even though I knew what we were talking about none of us would call it cancer, we just talked about getting the mass diagnosed. By the way they did send his appendix to pathology as is standard procedure. So we have a ways to go and both our jobs are being great about this, I think they are releived for us too. My eating hasn't been great but after they knocked him out some after the cat scan, I did some walking/jogging in the room while waiting. Those have to be the most uncomfortable chairs ever made. Plus jumping up every few seconds to help him. I got a good 8 hours sleep last night, now I really feel exhausted, I doubt I'll make it to work today and wouldn't be much help. I'm going to take a shower and head back to the hospital. Taking some of my JC food with me today. Thanks for being there for me.

As for me, I managed to drop about 2 lbs from last Saturday's weigh in but I will get excited whenl I see a second consecutive week of loss. Had a consultation with a new JC consultant. She was a manager but has decided to step down back into the roll of consultant. She has lost 100 lbs and is currently pregnant. What I liked about her was that she said she was there to listen and not judge. Kind of liked that approach and perhaps its time to do the same with myself.
I made another discovery today I can print out my daily food log from the Body Media Fit site. Well duh if I input my nutrition intake the MM Band can give me a printout. So this week I am bound and determined to keep up with logging my foods on what I eat. Self monitoring is the key to successful weigh loss and maintenance.
I have had two personal bests over the past two days with logging over 19000 steps for Thursday & Friday. The weather was nicer Thursday & Friday so I did nice evening walk. Felt good and I enjoyed seeing the water fowl on the Occoquan river.
Donna, I hope you can step in and help support your former boss with his own weight loss. It make such a big difference when there is someone walking with you. As for the unsupportive wife I will just give her a big rasberry fisst
Take care everyone and have a wonderful Sunday

My DH had a tough Fri night, very uncomfortable. Sat day was also tough. Back on morphene, has only had a couple sips of broth. Surgeon said all the gases they use to inflate the body have to work their way out. So apparently he truly is an old fart.

You and your DH are still in my prayers!! (((HUGS))) I know how that gas inflation works--they used it on me when I had my gallbladder out. It hurts all the way up to your shoulders!. The good news is that it subsides pretty quickly (a couple of days). He's in the best place possible with having a burst gangrene appendix...his docs are taking every precaution. He's going to be a sick puppy for a little while, but as long as he does what he's told, the "old fart" will be pestering the living crap out of you again soon!
Pattylynne--
Don't ever think your problems are small! When they are happening to you, they are HUGE. Whenever we run across some else's problems that seem bigger, it is God's (or whatever higher power you believe in) way of showing you perspective and saying "don't sweat the petty things". I like to add "Don't pet the sweaty things!"
Well gotta go. Have a great week all!

My weight has been going up a lot recently. I'm not happy about it, obviously, but haven't done much to curb that upwards spiral. I really have to do SOMETHING, though, because almost none of my clothes are fitting at this point. Today I was "good", but that was mainly because I have weigh in tomorrow morning. On a brighter note, at least the weather has been really nice the last few weeks so I've been walking the neighborhood a bunch while the girls ride their bikes. That, and my veggie garden is producing lots of tasty healthy stuff so at least I am getting in lots of free veggies. Is there anything that tastes more like summer than a cherry tomato eaten while it is still warm from the afternoon sun? I dont think so. Also have zukes, cukes, and eggplant. In a few days I'll even have green beans and beets. Ahh...
Wow, Nancy, I'm glad your DH is starting to do better and will be home soon. That must have been SO SCARY!
Take care,

Great to have you back--I've missed you! You were always the kick in the derier (sp) that I need. You're quite an inspiration! I figured you were busy with kids over the summer. How's the tea business going?
Well, I had a gain of 1 lb. yesterday, but I'm not going to let it bother me. My JCC and I have come up with a plan for more exercise even in my sit down job. I reconnected with a former boss a while ago (I may have mentioned this, forgive me for repeating) and we have become friends. He and I went walking today over lunch. It's good for both of us as he has a lot to lose too. I'm hoping to get him on JC eventually, he has done WW before an lost 25 in a month (men have it so much better) but quit. His DH is quite a shrew about his losing weight--he needs support, not someone to b**ch at him. So, I'll be the start of his support network.
Well, I gotta scoot, but hope Nancy's DH is doing better and that everyone has a great day.

Nancy hope your DH is now home and recovering -- What a scare indeed.
Donna - glad to hear you are doing well and enjoying your new job and that you have a new walking partner.
Pattylynne - hope Auguat is going well for you and that you are still enjoying your workouts
Angela - glad to see you had a moment to check in -- sorry the scale is not cooperating at the moment -- hopefully when Mira starts pre-school that will enable you to have a bit more me time and exercise time.
As for me the scale has stabilzied but not quite where I want it -- After Labor day my office goes back to business dress which will mean wearing suits that I have not worn since Memorial Day -- so they should fit but might be a bit snug.
Our weather has been nice lately and at least we have been eating a bit less take out.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers, we've needed them. My DH is doing better but has about a 6 week recovery. His staples get taken out next wed, then no lifting for 3 weeks. Not that he can lift now either. I am just pooped, not getting good rest. I hear him up and wake right up. Or I hear the dog up checking him. I put him in the guest room since I don't want to bump him by accident. I am getting more activity in since I'm walking the dog more, doing the yard work, all the errands ect. I went back to work today. Funny I just wrote sleep instead of work on the last sentence.
Angela, Are you singing the song it's happiest time of the year while planning for Mira to dtart school. Maybe you could take a zumba class.
Donna, great job on the walking and support system.
Marg, Think of all those nice fall days to go walking.
Pattylynn, How are things with the new trainer.
I haave a 12 hours day on Sat so I'm going to bed. Good night.

Ugh my weigh in is this morning and I am not looking forward to it because I am still not in the grove. My eating patterns are not stable and I have been fighting with my body & mind. Its like I am shadow boxing with a 2 year old child with the child wanting everything in sight. Seriously getting tired of going in to weigh in with a bundle of excuses.
I had my last training session with my old trainer and Monday I will start with the new. Keeping my fingers crossed that all will go well. It really comes back to me and whether I am willing to keep pushing myself to improve.
Well I go to get going and face the music with the scale. I've got to just buckle down and get with my own program because of the financial investment I have made. I can do this!!!
Take care and have a wonderful weekend.

Hope all is well.
Pattylynne, I hope the WI went well for you. I feel for you having to get more dressed up since it will be hot in DC for a good while. The leaves turning color early is a sign of stress, it's really early for you. We've had pretty good rain this summer, lots early. Hope all goes well with the new trainer. Bet the new trainer finds a new muscle or two you forgot you had.
Georganne, by our standards it's still hot here mid 80's but night are cooling down and the mums have arrived. Ugh we never really want to see them because it means the end of summer. But fall is gorgeous up here.
I was thinking of things I learned or realized this week. 1. That after 50 you go more splat than bounce back like in your 20's and 30's. 2. that I really need to keep this working out thing going because if it's this hard on my fit husband it's just plain hard to get past illnesses and poor health. 3. Made me even happier that I have been doing JC and gotten this weight off or it would have been an even tougher week. 4. Great to have friends to get you through all of the tough times. 5 life will go on if you have to punt or give in yo the junk food during tough times but I realized that while it was really crazy just revert back to JC. So much easier when the DH has started texting this and that needs to be done after I get out of work. By the way I guess that is the true sign he's recovering. But nothing to feel bad that I just pop a JC dinner in when I eat at 9:00pm.
Time to get the laundry going and get ready for work and play football with the dog who I'm pretty sure thinks I had my husband fixed. He smells like she did in the same spots when she was spayed. SHe keeps giving me dirty looks. Too funny, Take care.
