I have just been introduced to the Kettlebell exercises. This is an awesome workout that is really easy but burns a ton of calories (400 in 20 minutes). I feel like an infomercial but I have so much energy today after doing this for 20 minutes last night. A friend of mine was introduced to them in her Pilates class. I really doubted I would be able to hang, as I am right at 250 and only about 2 weeks into exercising again (I've been riding a recumbent bike for 30 minutes 6 nights a week for 2 weeks). When the video clicked to the menu to go to the cool down, I was like "that's it". I was sweating like a dog...dripping with sweat, but I never felt like I needed to quit!!! tongue.gif

I do a lot of kettle bell work in my work out, but 400 calories in 20 minutes?

Can you tell me which kettle bell exercises you're doing?

I bought Danskin's kettlebell with DVD and am using that. Since you questioned the calories burned, I did a little research, because I was basing my claim on what someone told me their Pilates instructor told them. This is a quote from an article on WebMD, "The results showed that the average participant burned about 20 calories per minute during the kettlebell workout, which equates to 400 calories during a typical 20-minute kettlebell workout.

Researchers say that's equivalent to running a six-minute mile or cross-country skiing uphill at a fast pace. They credit the rapid calorie burn to the interval training format of kettlebell workouts.

In addition, the researchers write that the participants achieved exercise heart rate and maximum oxygen uptake, suggesting that kettlebells provide a more intense workout than standard weight lifting".

What great news!!! smile.gif

Thanks - I guess I'll be adding a 10 or 20 minutes kb routine to my workout.

Would be interesting to see what the Bodymedia armband reads on that - because it never gave me much credit for other kinds of interval training.

I would really like to know what the armband says. I'm not on the MM Plan. Please let me know! Thanks

I want to start my kettlebell routine, but i can't seem to find dvds for it any suggestions?!?

Also PPixler i don't have mm plan either but a heartrate monitor will tell you calories burned, i have a polar watch and it is amazing. It tells you calories burn, if your in fat burning or fitness and at the end of your training it tells you your highest heart rate and your adverage, tells you the amount of time you were in fat burning modeband fitness mode. It's a great investment if you are looking for any additional tools to your fitness routine. Check out the polar website so many to choose from!

I need something new so I just splurged and bought two Bob Harper kettleball DVD's (I heard his DVD's are great) and a 3 in 1 workout by Amy Bento, also with good reviews, especially for beginners. Maybe that will help me feel motivated to work out more...

I saw an article about Kettle balls and exercises to do in Prevention Magazine. So I went to Walmart and bought one. I do the exercises maybe twice a week, just to change it up and not get bored. But be careful, I was doing one where you are circling the ball around you, swithing hands infront and behind you, and I missed a hand, and the ball went flying. 8.8 lb ball hitting the floor, makes a lot of noise. If it had hit the wall, I would have a large hole. I make sure to remain in the center of the room/
