Just measure it out to be 150 calories (I think the instant packets are that amount) add 1/2 cu[ skim or 1 % milk for 50 calories and maybe some cinnamon - you could add add berries slice apple and pour less milk- say 1/4 cup- just try to remain in the 200- 225 calorie area....

Hey Noralee
I know this post is old, but Oatmeal is right up my alley!!
I love Oatmeal and pretty much eat it every morning (I don't buy JC Breakfast)
There are many benefits from eating oatmeal in the morning. One of my main reasons is an attempt to cut the amount of sugar I have in the day.
For that reason, I don't buy the pre-packaged oatmeal. Even if it says it has no flavor, I've found added sugar and sodium in those.
I buy Old Fashion Oats. Either Quaker, or my stores generic brand. It's the kind in the cardboard cylinder. The most it should take is 5-10 min to cook.
I take 1/2 cup of dried oats, which when cooked is 150 calories, and I cook it as directed (with water) on the container.
At the very end I add in 1/2 of a banana (about 50 calories), a lot of cinnamon (to taste) and 1/2 or 1/3 cup of skim milk (about 30 -45 calories).
Sometimes I add in a cap full of vanilla extract.
The entire breakfast comes out to be between 230-245 calories. Which is the amount we should have for breakfast (when you add in the milk and fruit serving)
If you don't like banana's, or would like to add something seasonal, you can always replace them with blueberries, pears, apples, raspberries, mangos, peaches, Whatever! It's so yummy!!!
It might take a few more minutes to prepare, but I think the benefits are worth it! Definitely reduces my hunger pains, and my sugar intake... and that makes it worth it enough for me!

Hi Amy, this sounds so yummy! Just wondering..how do you add the banana in? Do you slice it or puree it? Thanks for the idea!

I am going to try Oatmeal then every morning. They have it pre-made in the cafeteria at my work . I just don't know how they prepare it; probably not with skim milk.
I need to take these training wheels off (haven't been attempting any MOMO) and try to eat something other than JC food (well, besides when I binged at Thanksgiving, but that doesn't count....in fact, it is a distant memory

Hey Savana
I take 1/2 banana and down the center and then across, to make half circles. Guess you could do whatever you like. I just make sure not to use more than 1/2 a banana because they are very high in calories.
But plain oatmeal with some banana, cinnamon, and a touch of vanilla extract tastes like banana bread to me! It's heaven!

You can do it Barbara! And good for you for being skeptical about the pre-made stuff at work. If we learn anything while on JC is that it's hard to trust where food is coming from, if we don't ourselves put it together.
I make my oatmeal in the morning while getting ready for work. Sort of between making the coffee, packing my lunch, and getting dressed. Then I take it with me in a tupperware container and either eat it on the way, or heat it up when I get to work. 1 minute in the microwave is perfect!
Good luck!

Thanks,Amy! Sounds soo good. So..1/2 cup oats and 1/2 banana..how much water do you add to cook the oatmeal? You might of already said...or I'm sure it says it on the box..been sooo long since I've had oatmeal. Any idea how many calories for all that? mmmmm...banana bread
Ok,sorry.... I went back and read your original post. 150 cals for oatmeal and about 50 for banana and 30 to 45 for skim milk..so approx. 200-250 for the whole shabang! Thanks again..I am sooo going to the store!

Good for you Savana!!
To the instructions for cooking the oatmeal are on the box. Very simple. Make sure to buy the "old fashion" oats. The regular red Quaker cylinder will work just fine, or if your store has a generic brand.
I add the banana's and milk at the end. I allow the oatmeal to cook entirely because I don't know how the milk or the banana might effect the cooking. Then when it's all done, add as much cinnamon as you like and a cap full of vanilla extract.. YUM!
Can't wait to hear what you thought
