I've been on JC for 5 days now and I had a graduation party to go to last night. I was worried about going because I knew there was going to be a lot of food AND the family is Italian and they'll walk by and fill your plate for you if they think you don't have "enough". And the grandmother gets offended if you don't eat what she's made.

So what I did was I got a plate and had a huge salad. And the dressing was on the side, a nice 15 cal one. I only put a little bit on. Then I added a huge scoop of the homemade fruit salad. Then I had about 5 ziti noodles, a couple of meatballs, one chicken wing, and three shrimp. I had a broccoli and cheese stuffed potato for lunch so I saved my meat exchanges. By the time I got to where she was standing, my plate was overflowing. But it was all the delicious salad!! And then for dessert I just had a tiny piece of cake and I didn't even go near all the other desserts.

I may have gone over a little bit but I did extra exercise yesterday. And I'm back on plan 100% today, no feeling guilty!

This is a big thing for me because usually I'd load up on the bad stuff, have a tiny salad or NO salad, no fruit...and a lot of dessert. So I felt this was a big triumph for me.

Keeping on my plan and happy about it!

Happy Sunday!

Congratulations! You've got to feel so good about yourself!! Eating around family and friends can be so tough. I struggle with a couple good friends who are "so proud of me" for doing something about my weight, then are "worried I'm not eating enough" whenever we eat together. Talk about mixed messages.

Again, good on you for breaking old patterns!!

Thanks! I'm feeling really good!

I totally understand what you mean about your friends and family!!! I get the mixed messages too! My family is happy I'm on JC but then when we get together they're liek "is that all you're having?" or "try some of this your Aunt made it". It's HARD!!

Thanks for the encouragement, both of you!

I know what you mean, my family is Italian & all overweight. Whenever I start to lose weight (or anyone does) all I hear is "Are you eating?" "Are you anorexic?" Never mind the fact that I'm 100 pounds over weight! It gets frustrating! especially at family events because they do center around food! But you did so well! I hope I have the willpower to do the same thing as u did! Keep up the good work

Congrats, "paisons," for figuring out a way to keep on track during an Italian family gathering. I know what you mean about the events being centered around food.

Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners used to include an ENTIRE Italian feast and then, an ENTIRE traditional Thanksgiving dinner and the whole thing would last six to seven hours of stuffing your face.

You made it through relatively unscathed and didn't hurt anyone's feelings. Good for you! :)

I'm proud of you too! :D
