Although 99% of what I have eaten on JC so far is really good....I am starting to want something other than a prepackaged meal. I want meat off the grill or a sandwich. Anyone else ever feel that way? Should I just do a meal on my own to try to calm the feeling but stay within the boundries of JC?

Sure, that's a natural feeling. BUT, you have a choice to make here. Presumably your weight had become enough of a problem that you chose to join JC to do something about it. You have to ask yourself which bothers you more: being overweight or not eating something from the grill? This is crunch time---time to dig down deep and really ask yourself if you're finally fed up enough with your weight that you'll do anything to get your life back. If so, then stick to the program. If you work the program, it'll work for you.

Also know that week 3 is when most people tend to lose motivation so power through this stretch. Stick with your JC menus, walk, and work on your mindset (read the Mind portion of your Success Made Simple Guide or Linda Spangle's "100 Days of Weight Loss" or journal or blog...).

I started JC in August 2010 and hit goal 110 lbs later in December 2011. I'm now living a wonderful new life that is balanced with a daily focus on mindful eating, activity, and commitment to a healthy lifestyle. One of the most wonderful things about JC is that you CAN incorporate "real" food into the program. Frankly, I was absolutely craving grilled fish, a nice piece of grilled beef or chicken, etc, and no JC food was going to fulfill that need!
Yes, you CAN do it, and with the blessings of JC. The MOMO guidelines are meant to be used for just such occasions and it is a real benefit to be able to use them. I would discuss your feelings with your JCC, of course, to make sure you are handling this situation correctly. IMHO denying yourself that lovely piece of grilled steak or that sandwich would lead to you feeling deprived, which might lead to the dreaded cheating/bingeing episode.
JC allows for LIFE to rear its ugly head, LOL. And that's exactly what I love about the program---so adaptable to what our real-life needs are.
Tonight? I've been doing a DOMO all day and I'm having a lovely three ounce portion of grilled London broil and a skewer of grilled cremini mushrooms, pearl onions, tiny potatoes, cherry tomotoes, and peppers.
All JC approved, BTW. smile.gif
This is all a learning process and if we are in it for the long haul we MUST, IMHO, learn how to handle our cravings and our needs. To do anything else would set us up for failure.
THIS IS FOR LIFE! We're all serious here and we all are determined to make it to the finish line. What we need is advice for the long-term, not admonishment and hand-slapping that has us feeling resentful and has us feeling that, perhaps, this program is not for us.
JC is a fantastic program and part of the wonderful-ness of the program is that it is totally adaptable to our personal needs. YAY JC!!! wub.gif

Wow, Margie. 94 lb in 11 months - way to go! Working the program as written must be working very well for you! Congrats!

I agree, especially early in the program - try to follow the program for best results. It's a slippy slope when you give in to cravings so early on. The MOMO guidelines are more for the unavoidable social situations - dining out, weddings etc... If you start subbing too early before you learn the basics about portion control and exchanges you run the risk of going completely off program, which as Margie pointed out is very common in week three.

I also noticed that the weeks I had more MOMO, even when planned out with my JCC, my losses were less than those weeks I followed the menus. For me, it definately affects my rate of loss. As I'm struggling with my last 5 lb, I'm considering giving up my two DOMO and doing 100% JC to get to goal faster.

What about grilling some free veggies on the grill (portabella mushrooms are awesome on the grill with a light marinade)???

Good luck!

Doing the occasional MOMO or DOMO is NOT straying from the JC program. One of the most wonderful things about JC is its flexibility. We learn about MOMO's and DOMO's as part of the JC program, not as alternatives to it!
It's not "one size fits all" here and it never has been. I've never had a JCC who has insisted that there could be no deviation from what was printed on that JC weekly menu planner. NEVER. But here we are, on the JC forums, and we have members who insist upon it and routinely admonish those who are considering learning how to incorporate non-JC food into their programs. blink.gif
"Sticking to the program" actually IS learning how to work with JC and make this journey our own.
There are many many successful JC members who have subbed (WISELY) from day one and lived to tell about it, LOL.

Just to clarify...I'm not talking about having a greasy cheeseburger. I just wanted to have a grilled boneless, skinless chicken breast.

Try putting the chicken breast from the mesquite chicken on the grill (just for a couple on minutes to brown it) DEEEEE-LICIOUS!!!! I like this with some grilled veg (mushroom, onions, asparagus, onion & peppers) YUMMY!!

On the weekends when I have time to cook, I grill veggies. My favorite is green pepper & onion with cilantro and a tiny bit of olive oil. Cook it over a hot fire until the veggies are still a little firm (about 3-5 minutes) and eat with the turkey club panini, the turkey burger, chicken fajitas, rising crust pizza, etc.

Since it's summer, and I like grilled meats, one of my favorite MOMO is to marinate a small boneless/skinless breast in Newman's Own Light honey mustard dressing and grill it beside some fresh cut chunks of zucchini (seasoned with sea salt and pepper). I eat these grilled items with a 1/2 cup serving of brown rice on the side.

Another chicken fave:

1 tsp. curry powder
1 tsp. tumeric
1 tsp. cumin
1 tsp. tarragon leaves
1 tsp. garlic powder
pinch of sea salt

I rub down my chicken breast with this seasoning and grill it. I then cube the chicken and eat it rolled up in a low-fat, low-carb, multi-grain tortilla with cucumber slices, baby spinach, red onion and a little hummus spread.
