Hello and welcome to the Seven Summits "Virtual" Challenge.
**THIS CHALLENGE BEGINS ON SUNDAY, MAY 15**

After completing our SURVIVOR WLC, our group decided to continue on our weight loss journey together and pick up a new challenge. This challenge is completely ACTIVITY related, however, we may throw in a few food related mini-challenges from time to time to mix it up a little!

Anyone can join us at anytime if you are interested. Just post that you would like to join and I will place you on a team. Come back often and post your progress to your goals, hang out and get to know one another!

HERE IS THE CHALLENGE: (Thanks to Lisa for the idea!)

There is a mountain climbing goal called The Seven Summits. The goal is to "bag the highest peak" on each continent.
  • We each have 7 individual challenges. You can take as long as you like to “climb” all 7 summits, however your team will be awarded points for each person who completes each summit.
  • The team to complete all 7+warm-up summits by each person will be the winner!
  • There is controversy over the original Seven Summits, which had a peak on Australia which was a short day hike, but we will add it as our “warm up” summit. (So technically there are 8 total summits to complete.)
  • Here are the Seven Summits ( 8 because of Australia’s short warm-up) in order of smallest to largest.
  • The number of steps listed is how high the mountain is in feet. Therefore, to complete the summit, you will track 1 step = 1 foot, and you need to climb up AND back, so multiply the number of steps by 2 for each summit.
  • The steps you can track are your total steps for the day. So be it walking, running, jogging, treadmill, snowshoeing…whatever the case may be! Any step counts!
  1. Australia - Mt Kosciusko 7,310 steps
  2. Australasia/Oceania - Carstensz Pyramid 16,023 Steps
  3. Antartica - Mt Vinson 16,067 Steps
  4. Europe - Mt Elbrus 18,510 Steps
  5. Africa - Kilimanjaro 19,340 Steps
  6. North America – Denali (aka Mt KcKinley) 20,320 Steps
  7. South America - Aconcaqua 22,829 Steps
  8. Asia - Mt Everest 29,035 Steps

TOTAL STEPS (UP AND BACK) ALL SEVEN SUMMITS (plus Australia): 298,868 – WOW!

We will split into two new teams - PURPLE and GREEN teams. I will not assume that all of our SURVIVOR challengers want to join, so please post here and let me know so that I can make up the teams.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! I look forward to continuing our weight loss journey together!

~ Leslie

Hi Leslie,

I'm in!!!!
Yeah!!! I'm really going to like this one:)

Question...how do you want us to post? As we complete each summit? Or do you want a step count each week?

I think I'm going to add a total step ticker with 298,868 as the ultimate goal so that I can see how far along I am along the way:)

Cheers,
Ang.

Hi Leslie,

Thanks again for hosting the Survivor Challenge. It was inspiring to see how we did as a group and as teams. 88 lbs is phenomenal! Way to go group!

I'm in for this challenge too!! This is so exciting. I am going to find one of those fancy tickers too. I really need to push right now. I haven't been able to get the scale to budge in two weeks, I am losing inches but no weight at all. I hope this will motivate me to get out and move even more.

Hey Lisa,

IMHO inches are far more telling than the scale. That means you're turning fat into lean muscle...and in the words of Martha Stewart "That's a good thing.":)

I finally saw the Survivor Finale last night...Tivoed it as I crashed on Sunday....yeah Rob! So happy that he won:) I'd be willing to be they'll try to get Mat back to play again. Mike would be nice too (yum!).

BTW...does anyone in our group watch True Blood? I've read all of the books and am an Eric addict!!!! What can I say...I like the bad boys:)

Cheers,
Ang.

Oh gosh Leslie, I hope it's not too late to join.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this challenge!

I have to admit it's perfect timing too. As you guys know, I've been a bit off these past few weeks with way too much personal stuff going on and I haven't been wearing my arm band. I figured, what's the point if I have no time to work out. Well, literally last night, I powered it up and promised myself to get back on track with my steps and work outs. So, I'm so in!

Thank you for putting this together. It is a huge motivation and a wonderful tool.

Good luck everyone!
Marta

The new ticker is a GREAT idea! (As you can see below...I already started one for me too!)

So between Sunday and Monday, I COMPLETED the Australia warm-up summit, and I have started on up Carstensz Pyramid! I wish it wasn't so rainy right now...I sure would like to get out there and exercise! I may try for a dog walk in between passing storm fronts. LOL

Gekko - WELCOME TO OUR GROUP! Glad to have you aboard.

POSTING: When you have completed a summit, please post your accomplishment so that I can track it. Feel free to post your progress along the way to keep yourself motivated and accountable - whenever you want to!

Ang - Yeah, the Survivor finale was excellent. So happy for Rob. I was SOOOOO bummed when Matt lost his final redemption challenge however. Andrea did not deserve to go back to the game at that point. And yes...they should TOTALLY bring Matt back! (Oh...and I don't watch True Blood.)

So I am having a mental block on this weight loss thing lately. I haven't been tracking my food. I only plug my armband in every 3 days or so. I have been "sneaking" in more and more snacky type foods at random points in the day. It's like I got bored and now am pushing my luck. I NEED TO STOP THIS. Posting here helps. Now I want to get out and go for a walk, regardless of the weather.

Who wants to race me to the top of the Pyramid? LOL

Hi everyone,

I completed the Australian warm up Summit. Will update my step ticket first thing tomorrow morning (I always do it for the day before so I get all of those steps in..right up to midnight:) I'm at about 16K with 2 more hrs to go today:)

Leslie,
I'm feeling the same way about the food..my deficits have been 500 - 750 lately instead of 1000. I've had 3 great weeks in a row, -4.5, -3 and -2...but I'm really feeling the weight loss starting to slow down. I really can't ramp up my exercise anymore (I don't want to over-train and end up injuring myself), so I need to re-commit to being a little more vigilant about my food:)

I've lost 28.4 lbs total so far and people are starting to notice...but the bad side of that is I've been feeling entitled to snack a little more here and there:) I need to re-commit to being a good girl (and getting more water in) so that I can hit 30lbs and get my 30 lb present (a Nike running watch with a GPS).

So thanks again for putting this together. Our challenges motivate me and more importantly it helps to talk through these little set backs.
Start Weight: 199.6

Hi all,

I finished the Carstensz Pyramid yesterday. Which was the only bright spot in an otherwise dismal day.
An early mtg when very sour and basically ruined my mood for the day...and instead of dealing with it in a productive way I BINGED. Next time I'm going to put on my sneakers and go for a run...to heck with work...it would have been better and I would have worked through the ickiness by sweating for an hour as opposed to eating for 8!!!!!

Oh well...Vent over. Back on the wagon today. I'm 1.6 lbs away from 30lbs lost and a running watch with a GPS.

Hi Ladies!

Is it too late to join in? I reached goal today and so I'm want to make sure I do well maintaining, even possibly losing some more. I must confess my job is pretty physical, along with mental, it's not uncommon for me to have 28000 steps just at work on one day. Not to mention lifting a lot of lbs. I also want to do more with push ups and crunches.

Welcome to all of our new members! I'm so excited to see some new people join our group. It is very motivating to have a place to post your accomplishments (and challenges) to hold yourself accountable. And we are all in this together, so we understand how difficult it can be.

Keep in mind everyone - you have to DOUBLE the steps for each summit - to represent walking up and then back down. smile.gif

In 4 days I have logged 40551 steps. That means I have about 40% left to go before I complete the Carstenz Pyramid - WOO HOO! Should have that tackled by tomorrow.

Another accomplishment for me this week: I lost 2 pounds at my weigh in today!!! GO ME!!

Hey - has anyone on here tried yoga of any kind? Have you looked at what your armband does? I took a Bikram Yoga class last - 90 minutes in a room that is 105 degrees+ sweating like nobody's business, and when I connected my armband afterwards, it said I only did 3 minutes of activity! For a solid hour it basically said I was immobile! Also, it only said I burned 146 calories. Now that CANNOT be. Why wouldn't the strenuous activity of yoga show up on the armband? I'm really disappointed. I mean, I know I will get the physical benefits from it, but I still wanted my armband to show me my accomplishment! LOL Anyway....going back for class #2 in about an hour. Wish me luck!
~ Leslie

Hi ladies!
Nice work so far!

Ang, sorry to hear about your meeting today!! I hear you on trying to focus on the running sneakers instead of a binge next time. I'll think of you the next time I'm in that spot.

Leslie, that is terrible about the MM and yoga! I haven't done any since I started JC but will let you know since I've been meaning to get back to it. I'm sure you burned tons of calories and it will show off on the scale next week just like your loss this week.

Nancy, CONGRATS on reaching your goal! What a great thing that you are already looking for tools for maintenance. Have fun climbing!

So, so far I've done 31,556 steps in 3 days. Looking good so far!

Loving this! Happy climbing!

Welcome to the group Nancy and Francine!
Nancy, you are an inspiration!! Congrats on hittingg goal! I can't even fathom what it would be to weight 130:) I see that you have 1/2 marathon on your bucket list...I'm training for my first one now...it's not until the end of Oct but I want a really good base..I'd like to run the entire thing keeping a 10 min per mile pace.

Another rough day today...but not as rough as yesterday..definitely was in a lot more control of my eating, then I ran a 45 minute training run (about 3.5 miles...so as you can see I have a heck of a lot of work to do before I hit that 10 min/mile pace), then spent about 2 hrs in the dojang doing taeguk (basically stylized patterns of movement we need to complete...kind of like a choreographed routine for martial arts) in preparation for my red belt test on Saturday. So I definitely got my calorie burn on;) Although like yoga, my armband showed a fairly low calorie burn..even though I was sweating like crazy at the end. The scale will tell the tale on Monday I guess!!!

Cheers,
Ang.

Hi All,

I checked my steps on my bugg since the 15th, so far 46,798. I have been sick with a sinus infection so my numbers a way down with a sick day and 2 days off.

Ang, worry about the distance not the speed so much. The martial arts sounds very interesting. Good luck on your test.

Leslie, As for the bugg not showing the activity for yoga, probably doesn't notice since you are so still so much of the time. Apparently sweating doesn't matter as much as we hope it would.

My steps should greatly increase this weekend, I work for a large garden center and this is the first half way decnt weekend weather wise this spring. Plus the weather looks better for next week. I should have atleast 20,000 steps a day just at work. My job is a 10 hour cardio/weight workout.

Go Green!!!
