My husband and daughter's made reservations for a really nice Japanese Restaurant out here. I have not had ANY meals out at any restaurant so far since starting JC back in January. I got up this morning and only ate my fruit. Our reservation is at 4. Any tips? I know I will try and load up on veggies as much as possible.. I'm concerned about the oil used to cook sad.gif Should I sneak my own dinner in? I'm also afraid I will offend my family if I don't have something. I am going to try and eat my lunch a little later today so that I'm not really hungry when I get there, because if I go hungry I am going to give in!

Hi Linwalker, I don't have any experience with Japanese yet but when out last week I just ordered a really nice salad and broiled salmon, visually divided it in half and ate that with one glass of wine! it was perfect. I'm sure the veggies with some fish or chicken would be fine, just envision portion sizes and you'll do fine I'm sure!

Don't be silly. Go out and enjoy your meal with your family. Trust me, you deserve it. When I first started back in December 2009, I did not eat out at a restaurant until May 15, the day I graduated college. So I know the feeling you have right now about being nervous. Japanese is a great choice. You can eat sushimi (JUST FISH NOTHING ELSE), a sushi roll wrapped in cucumber instead of rice, OR if you want the rice, ask for brown rice instead. You can also order seaweed salad, or miso soup which is SO LOW in calories. If you wanted more of a heavier meal, you can order salmon cooked DRY (no oil) or any kind of chicken/fish stir fry which will have a lot of veggies. Asking for everything cooked dry will ensure you that they will use little to no oil. If necessary, you can also ask for the teryaki or brown sauce (whatever they are using to cook your meal) on the side. But neither of those have fat, just sodium.. so you can have it and drink water to flush it out. It's your day, you can't deprive yourself forever, that's just ridiculous! So enjoy it! And sticking with any kind of fish/shelfish, little oil, and brown rice will ensure that you have a low calorie meal that will still keep you on track. Good luck, enjoy, and happy mother's day!

Yeah maybe I am just stressing too much over this. This is one of those restaurants where they cook right in front of you so that's an advantage too! Thank you! I love sushi.. smile.gif

Remember Lin, lifestyle change....you will eat out the rest of your life. Make good choices, ask them to go easy on the butter and eat lots of the veggies. Shrimp is always a good choice. I am sure you will do fine
