Oh mercy, I cant tell you how many times I have just gone on to bed just to avoid the evil nightime snacking monster from getting me. lol

I've of course tried that too.. the earlier I go to bed the worse the NES is. With NES you only have a very very vague recollection of eating.. some that have it worse than me don't even recall at all. It's really awful because your choice to evaluate whether you are really hungry or not is taken away from you. I try to save either my anytime bar or one of the snacks for night time. If I am up just watching tv, on the computer or reading.. i won't even think of food.

Just a nosy question Lin and I apologize in advance if it is too intrusive but do you take any medications for sleep? (No need to answer if you feel I've overstepped here---just wondering.)

"If hunger is not the problem, eating is not the solution."

Willpower Definition

Willpower is the inner strength to make decisions, take action and handle and execute an aim or a task, regardless of inner resistance, discomfort or difficulty or external influences. It is inner firmness, decisiveness, determination, resolution, persistence and the power to push towards any goal.

Nope Marge, wasnt reading anyone elses post...lol biggrin.gif , you make it loud and clear in MOST of your comments how you feel about food by advising newbies to plan in such intense detail that leads them to believe they have to focus primarily on food and how to plan around it! I think you have good intentions, but over-thinking this program leads to failure and makes them give up by thinking its just too hard. Sure over fixating on food is what got us here in the first place, but I think we all agree that focusing on OTHER things is the goal here......or it should be IMO.

Congrats for the 80 lbs lost though....what an accomplishment! Your getting all the closer to that 190 goal smile.gif Yay for you Marge wink.gif

Melissa---Regardless of our differing opinions of the value of planning, I do think we agree that any forum is strengthened by its members being able to hear different viewpoints. In this thread you seem sure I'm encouraging people to focus primarily on food when in reality I'm proposing people plan ahead so they don't have to worry about their choices regarding food. I'd like to think that honest discussion can continue in future threads without us having to ping pong back and forth over the intent of our messages. You and others can state your advice, and I will continue to do the same. I will continue to offer a structured approach and mindset that support the JC program and give people (new and old) a way to be successful and work towards freeing themselves from being consumed by food. Yes, I challenge people to think differently and to expect more of themselves---that's what personal growth is all about. As my friend Glen has said, this isn't just about food---it's about life and our happiness. We're worth the effort.

That is SO true about the cake at night! I did not have any dessert scheduled in my meal plan last night but today I had a PB snack bar to look forward to after dinner. It took all I had not to eat today's bar last night. But I just reminded myself that I would miss it the next day, had some spice tea which hit the sweet urge, and went to bed. smile.gif

AJW--good job with dealing with your sweet tooth the prior night. Another tip I've heard many people offer for the evenings is to brush your teeth. Once you have that "clean, minty feeling," other foods/tastes don't seem quite so alluring. Linwalker, I know that approach probably doesn't help with your NES---you're really working hard to make your program work despite that and I commend you. Do you notice that your NES food urges vary depending on sugar intake, caffeine, or any other evening/night intake? Do any changes in your nutritional intake (e.g. higher protein or lower refined sugar, etc) help, or is it just a matter of what's around and accessible?

Linda, I know you have mentioned NES before, and forgive me for asking and making you repeat it...but what exactly is this? Can it be treated? Sorry, I dont "claim" to be a doctor on the forums, so I cant offer advice. It sounds miserable though and I hope you get some relief somehow.

Margie, am I going to have to pull this car over? lol laugh.gif , b/c it wont be good if I have to pull this car over, so dont make me pull this car over...<hands on hips> hehe.

Seriously though, like I said before I'M DONE .....enough already with TRYING to justify yourself.....the proof is in the pudding (your post)....I think we have been disrespectful enough by inappropiately disagreeing on someone else's thread, so if you would like to pm me I will gladly continue this conversation there if you feel you have something worthy to add. wink.gif

Nothing more to say on this one, publicly or privately, that I haven't already said.
