A friend of mine just found out she's having a baby girl, so to celebrate, I wanted to take her out to browse at all the places where I shopped during my pregnancy, and I also offered to buy her lunch. We go out maybe twice a month together, and lunch is typically involved, but normally we go to places where there are *good* things that are low in calories, so I don't have trouble ordering. Well, since we were celebrating her special news, I told her to go ahead and pick a place, and lunch would be on me. BIG MISTAKE! haha She chose a place called "Nifty Fifties" which is a fifties style diner famous for it's milkshakes and flavored sodas (or "pop" as some of you fine people may call it!) There is virtually nothing healthy on this menu whatsoever. It's all fried foods and burgers. No salads, either! Well, I scoured the menu for several minutes, apologizing to the waitress and my hungry, pregnant friend for taking so long, when FINALLY I spotted the healthiest possible choice...a honey-grilled chicken sandwich. I ordered it, ate it without the roll (so just chicken with some lettuce), and I ate less than a handful of fries (which was extremely hard to do, and I know I shouldn't have eaten ANY, but my friend ordered a basket of them, and kept telling me to have some...after a while, I caved!) but, I could have eaten A LOT more than the amount I consumed, which really was not much at all. I also ordered a diet coke, and I kid you not, the waitress looked at me like I had 5 heads! Like I said, this place is known for it's milkshakes (which, by the way, they have every flavor you could imagine...my friend ordered a Reese's Cup shake, and it looked deeeelicious!) and flavored fountain sodas, so I imagine that it's extremely rare for anyone to order a plain soda, let alone a diet one!! So what I thought was going to be an impossible challenge ended up not being so bad, after all. I had my weigh in today, and I did well (not as well as I would have liked, but I am a woman...and certain womanly things happen which throw my weigh ins off every...month...you get my drift?)

You may be wondering what the purpose of this post is by now...I apologize, I tend to go off on tangents. The point I am trying to make is, you don't always have to stress when going out to eat with friends! At MOST restaurants, there's bound to be at least one semi-healthy thing hidden within the menu! You just have to look...and hope that it's something you'll enjoy eating!

Just thought I'd share to maybe give some of my fellow diner-goers some hope. Bon Appetit!

I think in the situation you were in, you did really well! And resisting those delicious milkshakes, my oh my lol
I have a tough time in social situations, it's really the problem that brought me here!
I applaud you being able to resist what you did, and just have some water tonight to flush out the fries biggrin.gif

Oh, and congrats to your friend!

I totally got the point of your post. It feels so good when we allow ourselves to be HUMAN and at same time save face. In other words, you could have eaten half the fry basket, you improvised and did very well. It is times like that we need to give ourselves a pat on the back because there are other outcomes that most likely would have left you feeling very low! KUDO'S!!!

Fries are my weakness. I finally had to tell my boyfriend, you know letting me have the one fry doesn't make my diet fail, you keeping it from me does smile.gif So much better now.

You are SO right. It's amazing how good those four (that's my number) really hot fries are and how much you enjoy them when you're not stuffing a whole fist full into your mouth!
