Any ideas for making a homemade salt substitute? I want to come up with a low sodium spice blend that flavors my food but doesn't add any more salt. I've been using a cajun seasoning that's loaded with MSG, salt, food coloring, and who-knows-what else. (For the record, it's delicious!) But I want to halt the salt and lose some of this excess water weight. I can feel my ankles sloshing around!
Any recipes would be welcome. p.s. I love anything hot & spicy. Thanks!
Suffering the pain of regain. Back to square one - AGAIN! 165/156.4/135 First mini-goal: 150 by end of May!

I never was one for adding salt..but my mom uses sea salt I believe. Not sure if that's better or not but my dad has to have low sodium. I personally think MANY JC meals have TOO much sodium.. the cookout bbq chicken one has over 500mg's of sodium.. I think that's an awful lot!
McCormick has a LOT of seasonings that are low or no sodium.. one of them is called "Table blend" which is like salt/pepper together... to me it tastes a lot like salt.. I use it to grill or pan fry.

I just buy the product "no salt" its usually sold in the same place you buy regular salt.

I know what you mean about the cajun seasoning. I use "slap your mama" (that's actually the name!) it's so good, but filled with sodium. I try to swtich off between that, and using plain old cayenne pepper, or red pepper flakes, also garlic helps for some flavor. I LOVE anything crazy spicy too!!
