I would love to partner with teachers on JC. I never seem to have enough hours in the day and my eating habits have suffered as a result. I have 25 minutes to eat lunch, make copies, and rest. Needless to say, I do not have mindful eating experiences during my lunch break. I could use some motivation and inspiration on this journey. Anyone else?

Hi, I am not teaching right now, but I was on Jenny Craig when I was student teaching in college. What seemed to work best for me was eating breakfast before I went to school, eating an anytime bar and fruit on my lunch break (usually around 11:30-12) and then having my jenny lunch once I got home from teaching. Yes, there is definitely not enough time during the lunch period to get everything you need to be finished, finished.. that's why this worked best for me. If you can hold out on lunch until you get home, great! Try it for a day, and see how it works out for you. Good luck!

I teach in an adult technical school, so not exactly the same as a public school setting.

I eat breakfast at home, then I eat a banana at work, right before class starts. No morning snack obviously. For lunch, I eat my JC, a yogurt and a cheese stick. I am out of class at 2:50 and eat my anytime bar on the drive home.

I am!

I teach 5th grade in southern California, so I hope you don't mind me posting here!

We get a 20 minute recess, and a 45 minute lunch, but sometimes work through those!

I try to spread my food out evenly, even if it means eating lunch at 3. I tend to break my food up more than 6 times a day if I am really hungry.

This is how I did it today (I'm on 1200):

6:45 Coffee and AT bar
8:00 Tangelo and water
10:25 Breakfast scramble (phayzime, to stop the gas)
12:30 Pannini, carrots and water, but not too much water rolleyes.gif
3:00 yogurt and rest of carrots
4:00 pear
6:00 salad with dressing
7:00 dinner pizza
8:00 toffee cookies

I broke the food into 9 pieces, and it seemed to work. I'm pretty hungry, but that's because I haven't been eating all that well, and I'm getting back on the program!

This is very helpful. I am trying to space out my meals better than I have in the past. I know what you mean about not drinking too much water at school! I run faster than the kids after the last bell!!!

Hi I have been on Jenny for two years. So far I have lost about 100 pounds. I am like you and only have about 25 mintes to eat before class. I try to end my day around 3pm to 330 with a Jenny snack or a piece of fruit. So far that has worked really well with me. The only problem I have is getting some of the energy to do more of a work out than taking the stairs and trying to make it through the halls with the kids.
Keep going and Jenny will become second nature.

Thanks for this. Do you use the multi-plus vitamin? My JCC told me that is what I needed to take for energy and to take my multi at night. I like working out in the pm as I need a stress release from the day. Jogging and bootcamp classes are the best for this. That is fabulous that you lost so much weight! Kudos to you!

I am a teacher. I teach K-5th special education (gifted). I just joined and am nervous about starting the program this time of year. State assessments are getting ready to start up which messes up my schedule. I very much like to know what is going on each day. Next three weeks will be a little crazy. Realistically the next two months will be crazy.

I was glad to see other teachers. Hopefully we can support each other through the next two months.

Hi!
I teach 6th Grade Science in Ohio and I've been on JC for a little over 6 months. The schedule of the day can definitely change the way you eat. I tend to spread my food out throughout the day as well. It normally looks like this:

6:30 - Coffee and Breakfast (or as I'm driving to work)
9:30 - morning snack
11:30 - Salad during short lunch period
1:00 - JC lunch
3:00 - Afternoon snack or AT Bar on the way home.

Then I usually go to the gym and eat dinner around 6 or 7.

Sometimes when life gets crazy at work I will eat my snack or fruit while on hall duty during class changes. We have 4 minutes between classes so it's just enough time to eat a banana or some cheese curls biggrin.gif

When it comes to water I have to pace myself as well. I bought a water bottle that holds 3 cups of water and it's my new best friend. I try to drink a full one before lunch and another full one during the afternoon. I then fill it up and drink it again on the drive home. That way I know I have all of my water in before I even get home from work and anything else I drink is bonus. smile.gif

Hi,
I am a teacher in ND. I agree with you that it is very hard to find time to eat all the things I need to eat while at school. What I do is eat breakfast right before the kids come into my room in the morning. Then when they go out for their noon recess at 11:00, I have my anytime bar. Then at 11:30 they go to lunch and I need to be there to supervise so I take my correcting along with me. I used to eat at this time, but I find it hard to get the time to heat my lunch up before I go to the lunchroom. When the kids go to PE or Music at 12:30, then I eat my lunch. I have my afternoon snack when they go out for PM recess at 2:15. Even if I have students in the room, I still eat. I find this works really well for me. Good luck in getting into a schedule that works for you.

Thanks for the info. Just wondering when you eat dinner. I have such a hard time figuring out how to manage afternoon snacks and dinner. What helps get you through? I need ideas for free foods. What do you do?

I am a teacher and just saw this thread...getting ready to start back to school. I actually like the school year...no access to the pantry all day to be tempted by snacks. I can only eat what I take. Finding time to eat is hard but I take lots of raw veggies as freebies to eat if I only have a few minutes. I like grape tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers and celery.

It's hard to believe that in a little over a week, I'll be back in school!

Hi everyone! I'm on my 3rd week with JC and I'm a teacher, too. I teach high school, grades 10-12, English and public speaking. I have already been thinking about what I'll do when the school year gets kicked off. I guess I have the mindset of, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Anyway...

It looks like I'm going to have to choke down breakfast WAY earlier than I'm comfortable with...around the 6 A.M. hour. My mid-morning snack will happen when most people would normally eat breakfast. I have a 10:30 lunch...but I get the luxury of a 50-minute lunch break. I fear I'll be famished by the time I'm done with school at 3 in the afternoon.

Thinking, thinking. Trying to plan ahead. I'm hoping for the best.

I mostly wanted to say hello and see how everyone else handles the end of the work day and that P.M. snack, along with dinner...any suggestions?

Jennifer

don't forget that veggies are free too! i couldn't always sit and eat a salad but cucumber slices or grape tomatoes make a great portable snack (that you can eat in the car with little mess).

Hi! I teach Middle School music in good 'ol rural Iowa. I don't even get a lunch break!! I just started today (9-16) with my call into the JC hotline and will receive my food on Tuesday. I am also wondering how this will work with not much time to prepare. Thank goodness everything is laid out for us!! Good luck to you and hopefully we can be pals!

I'm a middle school teacher near Chicago and I also find that there are just not enough hours in the day to get everything done and to eat proper meals. I was doing well on JC when I first started, but then the crazy school schedule threw me off track. If I wasn't teaching, I was running from meeting to meeting or grading or copying or planning.. you know what I mean. I occasionally got to the end of the school day and realized I had forgotten to eat lunch! Needless to say i was starving and often made bad choices with my eating. I had to get back on track.
I have since found that for me, it's all in the meal planning and prep. I make sure to pack fresh fruits and veggies to snack on throughout the day - I keep them visible on my desk just to make sure I remember. I also now make sure I bring a JC snack or a bag of veggies to my meetings with me. And I occasionally eat my breakfast just as the students are coming into my class. It's not ideal, but it has been working for me so far. I hope you've found your JC groove and are finding success!

I'm a teacher but currently subbing on a regular basis.
I find it difficult to drink enough water without having to exit in the middle of class.
Also short lunch periods and not knowing when a break is available (reading sub plans during breaks to know what to teach next- when in the elementary)
Getting all the food in during the day is my problem and then when I have time to eat I'm starving.
This school frowns on eating while students are present if they can't eat teachers shouldn't.
And a teacher salary supplying the class with carrots not really an option.
Also subs always get recess duty and extra duties during "break".
Wanting to look as skinny as I feel on the inside.
Beginning Weight 259 Dec 1 2011
Current 229 - May 1 2012
Down 30 pounds only 50 more to go
