Welcome to Week 4 of the SURVIVOR Weight Loss Challenge!

Hi everyone! Can't wait to jump into Week 4! You all have been doing SO GOOD and I love the enthusiasm to make a healthier lifestyle.

WEEK 4 MINI-CHALLENGE:
(These are always optional)
For this week, you have 2 options:
  1. STEP GOAL: Post what your daily step goal target is for the week. Try to stretch yourself and make it achievable, but a little higher than you normally do on average. Goal is to meet your daily step goal at least FOUR times this week.
  2. EXERCISE BALL: If you have an exercise ball at home, create a daily or week goal for yourself on how you are going to use it, how often, and for how long. Post so we can all see what you want to achieve this week.
TEAM PROGRESS:
WOW is all I can say! Each team has 5 teammates. Keep in mind we still have 2 from the Blue team and 1 from the Red team to post their WI from last week, but here is where we stand now.
Collective Weight Lost in 3 weeks:
BLUE TEAM: -13.10 pounds
RED TEAM: -24.8 pounds

That is INCREDIBLE! Congratulations to everyone! But we aren't done yet...this is an 8 week challenge - let's keep up that pace!!
~ Leslie

For me this week, I am going to do the step challenge (don't have an exercise ball). My daily step target on BodyMedia is 7500. On most days I hit that or over, although sometimes I don't quite make it.

So for this week, my goal is to, for at least 4 days this week, make 9000 steps.

And supposedly the good beautiful weather is coming this week and no more rain - so I should be able to get out there and walk much more!!!!

I'll do the step goal as well...I'm going to shoot for 15000 steps a day (my normal target it 10000 but I usually don't have an issue making it.) 15000 will make me stretch.

Cheers!

Hi All,

Great job everybody! This is gonna be a good week.

I am going to make my goal 10000 steps for at least 4 days. It will be a challenge because I have been averaging between 5000 and 7000 steps, not including my other workouts. This is going to be another challenging two weeks. I leave Wednesday night for my brother's wedding. I've already told my sisiter that we are going to get up every morning and workout at the hotel gym before we spend the day doing wedding stuff. I get back Sunday afternoon and turn around Monday morning to return to Sacramento for 5 days. I will continue to workout there too, and more MOMO. I am SO looking forward to May when our training season slows down and I don't have to travel as often.

My weighin is tomorrow, I'll post when I know.

Hi Everyone,

I do have a ball, but since it hasn't been blown up yet (been probably a year now unsure.gif ) I will go with the step challenge. My step goal for the bodymedia is 5000, but I average 6-7,000. So my goal this week(gulp) will be 10,000. I know I've done 10,000 before, just not on a daily basis. I'm always more hopeful at the beginning of the week, but this week I'm going to try a whole new mindset.

My JCC quit this week and I felt down yesterday when I went for weigh in. I really liked her. My first JCC I had when I first started JC a couple years ago was fantastic. She was so upbeat and encouraging. She left suddenly and I felt abandoned. I didn't seem to match with the other JCCs which made it hard to keep going. So I started back this January and I really liked my JCC and now she's left, too! sad.gif

I'm thinking of going in to buy food without a consultant for awhile. Not sure what my plan is yet, but I've got to do something to get back to making losing weight a priority.

Have a good week everyone!

Sounds like the step challenge is the way to go! Count me in too.

I'm averaging 9,500 a day so I think I'm going to try to stretch in and go for 12,000.

Good luck this week!

Hmmm not sure which challenge I'll do. When I go to the gym I do elliptical or bike which doesn't always register as steps. I have an exercise ball but honestly have never used it. I think I'll go with the exercise ball challenge and research on YouTube on what I can do with it. So I don't know yet what I'll be doing with it but I'll let you know. Whatever it is I plan to try to do it 3x this week.

LoseIt - can you post some links or exercises to do with the ball? I have one too, got it in a kit I think in Fall 2009 - but may have been Spring 2009 - and like Darbyk, I have never inflated it! rolleyes.gif

So I will also go with a ball challenge - I will inflate it today, and make a decision what to do with it soon. smile.gif

Darbyk - my JCC left this week too, and I had a new JCC at WI. She seemed ok but i am going to ask the centre director for her advice as to who would be best to put me with.

3 of my staff have their annual reviews this week - which traditionally means taking them out for lunch! But after making it thru last week, I am optimistic at being able to handle the challenge. It's all about the planning so I have started planning already - for example I will not give them a choice of restaurants - my pick lol! wink.gif

But compared to Lisa my week sounds easy. Planning is your best bud too, huh? huh.gif

Wow Ang - how do you get so many steps in? I was thinking about trying for 10,000 for this week's challenge (I think I may have gotten over 10,000, at most, 3x since getting MM!)

Thanks again Leslie for setting this up.
Blessings,

Ladybug

Hi Everyone,

So I made my 15000 today...YEAH!
Also, for Loseit...a couple of suggestions if you want them.
The exercise ball is great for doing crunches...or my favourite type of torture (not because it's easy but because it's effective) is walk-outs. At least that's what the person how taught me these called them.

Lay on the ball, starting with your stomache on the ball and your hands on the floor in front of the ball balancing you. Your legs should be sticking straight out...not on the ground. Then slowly walk out with your hands until only your ankles and feet are on the ball. So basically, you're doing a plank up on your hands with your feet on the ball...then walk it back into your stomache...the walk it back out again. I used to do 4 sets of 15 when I was in shape.

Now that I've done all of the typing to detail the exercise I'm inspired to try it again myself:) I'll try to get 2 sets of 10 in at least 4 times this week in addition to my 15000 steps.

Hope that helps!
Cheers,
Ang.

Hey Ladybug,

Well, I do TaeKwonDo...and the kicks tend to register as steps:) I think it counts as they're a lot harder to do then a step!

I also try to run and walk the dog every day. I usually get in 2 - 4 miles that way depending on the day.

Cheers!

I got in over 10000 steps today! That's only the 3rd or 4th time I've done that since I got MM. Doing our typical dog walk twice is what is doing the trick. The weather is supposed to get much nicer here this week - in the 70s! So we are going to try to go three times around our neighborhood route at some point - as long as Rick's knee can take it.

Lisa - you're going to have great weather here in Sacramento this week - supposed to be up to 79 at one point mid-week - so bring your tennies and workout clothes and enjoy the outdoors!

Ang - you inspire me to push myself harder everytime I read your posts!

Sounds like there's some dusting off of those exercise balls needing to be done ladies! You can do it! We used to have one that my husband used for his physical therapy but after our last move, I have no idea what happened to it!

Have a great week - here's hoping we all have a good Monday morning!

okay, my exercise for today was inflating my exercise ball with the hand pump provided - phew! How about I just use it as my computer chair? ohmy.gif

I also went for a fast walk around my neighborhood, and managed to get my steps over 10,000! Thanks for the inspiration Ang!

Hi ladies!

Nice work on the steps! I went for my run this morning but am scared to sync yet....we'll see how many I get in by the end of the day. I may be walking circles in our apartment to make my goal. smile.gif

On another note, lost .6 lbs today. I'm thrilled since I was terrified I was going to gain considering it's only been 4 days since my last WI and I just started my TOM. So, WHEW! Happy to be back to Monday WIs and back on my regular schedule. Looking forward to Wii which I haven't done in weeks and may even try a yoga class which they say helps with running.

Hope everyone is doing well!

xoxo

I don't weigh in until Thursday. I'm new to this challenge. I am going to do the exercise ball since I already love using it smile.gif I plan on doing a lot of hamstring work w/ it this week.

I also plan to finally put my pedometer back on tomorrow...so I'm going to go for 10,000 since it's my first day back.

Not sure if any of you read Ellen Wheels post regarding calorie burn...but I"m not trying to break my main walks up into 2 timeframes..one after lunch and one after dinner...so that I can burn everything I eat very quickly and get back to the business of burning those fat stores:)

Ang - I imagine you meant "I am now" as opposed to "I am not"? Yes i read that post too, and it tied in with other info i have garnered over the years. I am trying to do at least 5 min of activity before every meal (rebounder when at home).

OK - my challenge will be to use the exercise ball at least 5 minutes 5 days this week. I did that yesterday and today - and boy must i have a weak core as no way could i do the exercise Ang posted - the walkouts? At least not all the way to my ankles, and not that many repititions!! I am going to modify and try to go out to my knees, 5x for 2 reps, and that is plenty hard for me so will start from there. ohmy.gif

My exercise ball is not that big - not as big as most of the ones in a pilate class I took a few years ago - and i think the trainer said the smaller were harder? I need a lot of work on my balance (I am ridiculously bad at yoga rolleyes.gif ).

Djanson - i loved my pedo before I got the MM armband, it is so fnny that i won't go to the extra effort unless it "counts" lol. laugh.gif
My steps are close to 10,000 - 9630 to be exact so very close - so may make it yet tonight.
Blessings,

Ladybug

Good morning everyone!

I had my weighin yesterday and I was down another 1.8 lbs, hooray!! It keeps me motivated to continue on my journey. Another motivation is that I contacted the travel agent to book our October vacation! That is a lot of incentive to lose the weight and get in great shape. I want to look good in a two piece bathing suit again.

For all of you that want to work out with the ball, Prevention.com has a lot of great workouts using the ball. I use one all the time with my trainer, and it is a fantastic core workout. To add to All-in-Ang's workout, once you get out into the plank on the ball, you can add push-ups as you get stronger. The ball also makes a challenging seat for your computer. We have several in our dispatch office and we fight to use them. It's amazing how much work it takes to stay on the thing.

Thanks for the info on the weather, Leslie. I had already planned to bring my workout gear, but knowing that it will be warm and sunny makes it even better. I am planning to continue with my interval training on the hotel treadmill. I think it was a large part of my weight loss success this week.

You all inspire me to work hard at this, I am glad we are all in this together. I will check in on Monday for the next challenge and to let you know how my steps went. Can I change my challenge goal to include using the ball as well?

Ang, Lisa & Marta - what AWESOME weight losses this week! WAY TO GO LADIES!!!!!

LOVE LOVE LOVING how motivating and inspiring you all are.

I got in another 2 trips around dog walk last night, but haven't sync'd so don't know if I got over 9000 steps yesterday or not.

This afternoon we are taking the dogs to Folsom to check out a doggy daycare/overnight care place and some possible training. Will probably go on a nice walk afterwards as well. TOM came yesterday so I'm feeling a little sluggish, but I'm committed to getting those walks in!

I'll check back in tomorrow...
