WELCOME TO WEEK 3 OF THE SURVIVOR WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE!

Anyone is welcome at anytime. We are here to support one another while participating in personal challenges each week. Come join the fun! If you are interested in joining our group - please post the following:
  • Your name (optional)
  • Your WI day
  • Your current weight

WEEK 3 MINI-CHALLENGE:

On Survivor this week, teams competed in a maze challenge while blind-folded, that then ended up in a word puzzle. How does that translate to our weight loss journey? Well, we're gonna be creative!!
For this week, it is time to try to navigate something you are unfamiliar with - it can be food or activity related. For example:
  • Choose one meal this week to do as a "meal on my own". Log all calories as you cook/eat out and your goal is to stay within your menu daily calories OR meet your daily caloric deficit (so if you went over, hopefully you increased your activity to counteract it!) Post what you did so we can all celebrate your success!
OR
  • Find a NEW activity that you don't normally do and give it a try at least once this week! I hear that as our bodies become accustomed to the activities we participate in, it isn't as productive. Changing up your exercise routine "tricks" your body and can result in higher weight loss. Don't forget to post what you did and how you liked it/felt afterwards!

Also, don't forget to continue on that water intake as it is good for our bodies! 64 ounces a day will keep the doctor away! (Well....hopefully!)

Good luck everyone and I look forward to Week 3!!!
~ Leslie

Hi everyone ,

I tried my Kinect personal fitness training program for the first time this week. It was pretty cool. I used it after my run so I was already warmed up. The neat thing is the more I use it, the more levels and routines will be unlocked.

So...that satisfies the challenge criteria for this week right?

I already do dinners on my own...I decided I wanted to try and transition off of JC food quickly, and usually the breakfast and lunch I grabbed at work were my downfalls anyway...I tend to try and feed my little one a little healthier than I was feeding myself:)

I'm always on the look out for healthy, low cal snacks (there's only so much fruit I can eat and I'm not a huge veggie lover...just eat a salad at least once a day). Anyway...I made the most amazing find today at Whole Foods. Suzie's Whole Grain rice cakes...basically a corn cake with a little bit of sea salt. 3 rice cakes are 38 cals and only 11mg of sodium. It's a nice little snack and suprisingly filling. Just thought I'd share:)

Cheers,
Ang.

Hey Ang - which Kinect game do you have? (And yes - a new exercise tried counts!)
I have the Your Shape Fitness, and I find it difficult- first, if you can't get the tutorial exactly right 3 times, you just keep doing it until you can and can never get into the activity. I wish there was a way to turn the tutorials off. What is your game like and do you like it? I do like the Adventures and the Sports games - those are the other two I have. I like the obstacle course and the river race on Adventures, and I like table tennis, volleyball and bowling on the Sports one.

I'm not ready to do a meal on my own yet - I like the simplicity of just following the menu and it telling me what to eat without having to think.

My mini-challenge is going to be trying a new exercise activity. I have three workout videos that are still in the plastic wrap from years ago! One is Fitness Prevention Dance Your $%# Off, and the other two are those 10 minute workouts - one is pilates and one is an abs workout of some sort. So my goal is try to try all three this week! I just broke open the Dance one this afternoon and did about 1/3 of it. So I want to try the whole thing next time.

And there's the timer for my Personal Pizza! Lunch time!!

Hi Leslie,

Yes, I have the Your Shape Fitness Evolved..and it can be a stickler for form:)
So far I'm liking it....and the calories burned sync fairly well with the calories recorded by the BMF.
The one down side if the frequent breaks between exercises...I'm hoping that these go away once I unlock more levels:)

I met my weekly challenge goal this morning and tried a new machine at the gym. I didn't like it and only made it 10 minutes on it. But I tried it! Also, I weighed less this morning so I'm convinced it was water retention on Saturday. I'm hoping for a big number this Saturday!

Hi All,

I'm up for the challenge. I think I've been doing this challenge already as far as the food goes, so I'm going to challenge myself with doing something new for exercise this week. Everyone has been talking up Zumba, so I am going to try a class this week. I am home for this entire week, other than one day meeting tomorrow, whew!! I am really going to up my exercise as much as possible to make up for the two 7 hour travel days last week. I really hate sitting in a car for that long, my only saving grace was I didn't do a bunch of mindless munching. I ate carrots and rice cakes and drank iced tea and water. I do need to flush some of the wine tasting toxins out of my system so I am powering the water today.

Good luck everybody!

I have so many challenges this week - foodwise! please bear with me - i need to put it all out there!!
Yesterday (Sunday) was church potluck and weekly family dinner - but this week we had brunch for dinner (my favourite!). I did add one slice of bacon & one egg to my breakfast scramble. I logged all my potluck eating, and dinner extras, and jumped on my rebounder until I made my deficit. (I had also walked around and around the grocery store in between church and home, just to get some steps in!) So i consider that a success for the challenge.
My burn was: 2951
calories in: 1825
deficit = 1126 - goal is 1000.
Since my plan is only 1500 cal, I decided to eat a little lighter today - 1385.

Tomorrow I teach an all day course - muffins for brekkie and sandwich & veggie/fruit plates + a dessert plate for lunch. I plan to skip muffins (or eat 1/2) and the desserts.
Then Wed is my Birthday -birthday brownies at work (I will try to eat only one but cannot skip these!) & Olive Garden with family for dinner. Hoping they respect my "no cake" wishes. BUT I may have a glass of wine - first one since MMax.
Oh, but I'm not finished yet - because Thursday is a work potluck lunch! I bought some pineapple chicken skewers from M & M meats, that you can m/wave, and they are only 70 calories each so my plan is to eat veggies and those skewers at the potluck.
Criminy!!

So you can see why food is a big challenge this week! I am so glad for the MM armband, to help me REALLY know how I'm doing. Thanks for hanging in there to read - only you guys can understand what this means to me. blink.gif

Leslie - 3 miles! way to go!
Lisa - let us know how you like Zumba
LoseIt - hey at least you tried, and 10 minutes is a fair trial
Ang - hope you kinect with a great loss this week lol
Blessings,

Ladybug

Hi everyone,

I just weighed in...I lost 1.4 lbs...my smallest loss ever:( But now that I've been on the program for 5 weeks I guess my body is adjusting. Plus I had a couple of not so good calorie days..always in deficit but didn't always hit my target. Over the week everything balanced out and I hit my deficit..but I think the key for me is to never eat more than 300 - 400 cals in a sitting and to keep up with the exercise. The hubby was out of towns for three days so I missed some runs (which is where I get most of my vigorous activity).

Sigh:( Oh well..at least it was a loss! I was so wanting to hit the 15lbs lost mark this week..but I just need to buck up, put on my big girl panties and hit it next week instead:)

Hi All,

I weighed in as well. I'm down .8 lbs for the last two weeks. Not so bad considering I was travelling almost the entire time. I actually think I'm down more than that. I was three pounds lighter on my home scale. I haven't been able to try Zumba yet, but my trainer stood me up last night so I decided to do a 45 minute interval run/walk on my own. It was actually a lot of fun and I burned 500 claories, which is as much as I usually burn with my trainer.

Everyone keep up the good work, we're in this to get healthier!

Hello everyone!

Congrats on your losses and activities! I just went in for my WI yesterday and lost 4.0 lbs (my biggest week loss yet)! I can't believe it since I was out of town and doing tons of MOMOs.

I will definitely try a new workout this week. Planning on finally dusting off my Wii Fit and giving it a go. Wii Zumba is great but maybe I need something new.

Oh and Leslie, I did get in my workouts last week! Because of all this traveling, my weeks are all messed up but I plan to go back to Monday WIs this coming week and hopefully that will get my posts in on time!

Take care!
Marta

Can I join? I've been at a huge plateau and need to get back into this. I currently work out 4-5x a week for a total of 5-7 hours a week.

my WI day is thursday. I currently weigh 192.8, my goal is 160. I will try either yoga or kick boxing this week smile.gif

Confession time friends - I really need all of your help and support!

I'm having a really tough day today. I am craving bad foods - hamburgers/fries or greasy pizza. I think 33% of it is because I just want it. 33% is probably hormonal - I just finished the last of 10 days of pills last night of a hormone that forces my period, since I haven't had one since December - and we're trying to get pregnant so we are now down the "infirtility testing" route. And the other 33% is probably because I'm bummed about not losing so much weight this week. My WI is later this afternoon, and I'm guessing it'll just be around 1 pound.

So what do I want to do? I want to sabotage myself and eat something greasy and fatty and unhealthy. I KNOW it is wrong.

I have my foods at work. I knew I was going to go to ToGo's today to get my salad - sans the dressing. As I drove there, I literally had to fight myself not to drive to McD's or Carls Jr instead. I did go to ToGos. I got the dressing and I got some potato chips. I had to have something bad for me! I couldn't help it.

So I'm sitting at my desk now...eating my salad, my JC Turkey Panini, and the Potato Chips. I had to confess. Why are some days so easy and others so challenging? And now all I can think about is that darn slice of pizza!

Ok, I have now taken a breath and paused to read the latest posts...

ANG - OMG! great weight loss and what's more - size 12 SKINNY JEANS! You ROCK! That is super exciting! You are my motivation - my current goal is to get down to 180 which is about where you are now - and to know that I may fit into size 12 skinny jeans by then is so inspiring! Hopefully I'll decide to continue from there, but I wanted to be reasonable. I started this 6 weeks aga at 262 pounds!

Lisa - sounds like your traininer standing you up wasn't a total lost cause! Good for you for doing something else instead.

Dietmama - 4 pounds! That's amazing! Congratulations!!! Losses like that feel so good, don't they?

LadyBug - what a food week! How are you doing since you posted on Monday? It sounds like you were trying to plan well knowing there would be challenges, but also allowing yourself some room for a few small favorites. That sounds like a really good plan to me. Let us know how it all turned out - and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

djanson - WELCOME! We would love for you to join! I will put you on the BLUE team as it seems we may have lost a couple folks. Good luck and post often!

Oh Leslie, I feel for you! I HATE those days. And they just come out of nowhere! It sounds like you did great! Look how far you've come! Just a bit ago, I'm sure you wouldn't have thought twice about McD's! So congrats! You should be so proud of yourself!

I hope the deep breaths and maybe loads of water helped you take your mind off things. I tend to come to this forum and type, type, type when I'm having one of those days.

Looking forward to hearing about your WI today.

Oh and Happy birthday Ladybug!!!

Oh Leslie,

I"m sorry you're having such a tough day. Hang in there...I KNOW that you can do this! There are days when I have the chocolate bar in my hand and I literally stare at it for 30 minutes debating in my head. You've been so great about setting up our challenges and being a leader...it's OK to have a moment of weakness, we all do:) I know that you have the mental toughness to fight through this!!

Sometimes, I find that I feel prouder of myself if I slip up a little bit on tough day than if I've been prefectly good on an easy day. Before JC I would have binged (and when I say binge, I'm talking entire pizzas and tubs of chocolate icing...I would eat until I was physically ill!!!!) but now, when I have a tough day, I might made a less than healthy choice but I keep my portions small and balance out an extra calories with exercise so that I'm still in deficit.

Hang in there...it will come off;)

Hi Leslie,
Thanks for the welcome! Other than doing the weekly challenge, what else do I need to report in each week?

Oh, and if you love to dance, I highly recommend Zumba! I have been doing it about 2x a week for the last 2 1/2 years and love it. Literally lost 10 inches off my waist! So much fun and burns TONS of calories if you put your heart and soul into it.

I'm sorry you had a bad day...but it could've been worse! hang in there!!! You'll be back on track in the morning. Thanks for letting me in on a team...I've been in a weight loss funk and really need this!
